That low-risk check can fix stale configuration, but it cannot guarantee that current in-stream ads will disappear. Twitch changes how ads are delivered, and community workarounds can stop working without notice. The once-popular TwitchAdSolutions repository was archived on March 5, 2026, so its scripts are legacy options, not maintained fixes.
Identify what is happening in the player
Different symptoms point to different problems. Hiding an element on the page is not the same as stopping an advertisement delivered through the video player.
- Pre-roll: an ad plays before the stream starts.
- Mid-roll: an ad interrupts a live stream.
- Banner or overlay: an ad appears around or over the video. A cosmetic rule might hide an element without preventing video ads.
- Purple screen or “commercial break in progress”: playback may be delayed or suppressed rather than restored to an ad-free stream.
- Audio continues while the video changes: a workaround may be muting or switching the video source, not blocking the ad in the usual way.
- Endless loading, buffering, or a frozen player: suspect a conflicting Twitch-specific extension, script, or stream-switching workaround.
- Ads on one channel only: channel settings, player behavior, or cached state may differ; it does not by itself prove uBlock Origin is misconfigured.
Try the low-risk fixes first
These steps apply to desktop browsers running the full uBlock Origin extension. uBlock Origin Lite is a different product; advanced custom-resource and userscript procedures below should not be assumed to work with it.
1. Check that Twitch is not allowlisted
- Open twitch.tv and click the uBlock Origin toolbar icon.
- Check that the large power button is enabled for the site. If Twitch appears in uBlock Origin’s trusted-sites or allowlist settings, remove it.
- Do not click a control labeled “Allow ads on this site” if your goal is to block ads. Twitch’s own uBlock Origin instructions use that control to allowlist Twitch.
- Reload the Twitch tab.
2. Update uBlock Origin’s filter lists
- Click the uBlock Origin icon, then the dashboard/settings gear.
- Open Filter lists and click Update now if the control is available. Automatic list updates are enabled by default in the documented configuration; this forces an update when needed.
- Leave uBlock Origin’s core lists enabled. Return to Twitch and hard-reload: Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+R on macOS. If the player remains stuck, close the tab and reopen Twitch.
Updating is the right first step, not a promise that in-stream ads will be blocked. uBlock Origin’s filter-list documentation also warns that extra lists increase the chance of website breakage. Avoid adding a pile of unverified Twitch lists from forum posts or video descriptions. If you do add a list, check who maintains it, what it is for, and whether it is updated; remove it if playback breaks and report the issue to its maintainer.

3. Test for extension conflicts
Disable other Twitch-specific ad blockers, scripts, custom Twitch filters, and competing browser ad-blocking features, then test with only uBlock Origin active. Change one thing at a time. This is especially relevant in Brave, where built-in Shields and extensions may interact. If a private window is available, test there with only uBlock Origin enabled; enable tools again one by one if the test works.
On Firefox, uBlock Origin can suspend network activity while filter lists load; Chromium-based browsers do not support that mechanism natively, according to the uBlock Origin documentation. That difference can affect filtering during startup, so reloading Twitch after the lists load is useful. It does not establish that one browser will always block Twitch ads better than another.

Advanced option: a legacy uBlock Origin workaround
The archived TwitchAdSolutions project documents a custom filter and resource approach. It may still work for some users, but the repository has been read-only since March 5, 2026. Twitch can change its player or ad system, and the project itself warns that scripts may stop being applied. Treat this as a fragile community workaround, not an official or maintained 2026 fix.
A custom resource is also more than an ordinary filter: it runs code through the extension in the configured site context. Only proceed if you can assess and trust the script’s source. Prefer a pinned commit permalink over a moving branch URL so that the code cannot silently change underneath the configuration. The project’s example below uses a moving master URL, so it does not meet that pinning safeguard.

- Open the uBlock Origin dashboard and choose My filters.
- Add this legacy filter, then apply changes:
twitch.tv##+js(twitch-videoad) - Open Settings, enable I am an advanced user, then click the cog that appears beside the setting.
- Find
userResourcesLocationand enter a Twitch-specific resource URL only if you have reviewed and trust its source. The archived project gives this example:https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions/master/vaft/vaft-ublock-origin.js - Disable and re-enable uBlock Origin, or restart the browser, then reload Twitch.
For the custom-filter interface, see uBlock Origin’s My filters documentation. If the workaround causes trouble, remove the custom line in My filters, restore userResourcesLocation to unset, disable any Twitch-specific extension or userscript, then disable and re-enable uBlock Origin and reload Twitch.
Userscripts and alternate players are trade-offs
Userscript managers
The archived project says its userscript versions can be run through managers such as Violentmonkey or Tampermonkey; it says Greasemonkey does not work with those scripts. A manager is an environment for running a script, not an ad blocker or a guarantee that the script is safe or current.

- Install a manager from its official site or browser store.
- Inspect the script’s source and repository history; prefer a maintained project or a pinned commit.
- Run only one Twitch-specific solution at a time. Disable or remove it if playback freezes, buffers, loses audio, or loops.
- Remove the script when you no longer want it running.
The LarsThe18Th TwitchAdSolutions fork exists, but its existence alone does not establish that it is safe or suitable. Assess its maintenance and code separately before trusting it.
Alternate players
An alternate Twitch player may avoid some webpage behavior, but it can sacrifice Twitch features and is not a universal fix. A July 2026 community discussion reported failures with encrypted broadcasts in some configurations; that report is anecdotal and browser- and version-specific, not proof that every alternate-player setup fails. See the discussion at the uBlock Origin subreddit.

DNS filtering
DNS filtering can block known ad or tracking domains, but it generally cannot perform the player-level stream manipulation Twitch workarounds may require. Because services can share domains, blocking one can also disrupt unrelated Twitch functions. It is not a dependable first-line fix for in-stream ads.

When reliability matters more than a free workaround
Twitch Turbo is Twitch’s official paid ad-free subscription option and avoids maintaining a browser script. Its current price and terms are not stated here; check Twitch’s product page for the price and regional availability that apply to your account. It is a separate choice from uBlock Origin, not evidence that the extension is defective.
What to expect from uBlock Origin on Twitch
uBlock Origin can block ordinary page advertising, but its normal filter lists do not guarantee removal of Twitch’s in-stream video ads. The August 17, 2026 community report that ads had returned for some users is anecdotal, not a universal compatibility test. Twitch-specific approaches have worked for some people at some times, but reliability depends on the browser, extension and list state, and Twitch’s changing player behavior.
