At the same time, Brent crude futures fell 1.4% to $105.20 per barrel. This is a futures-market quote; it should not be read as a retail fuel price or a confirmed end-of-day oil settlement. Why the two markets were moving together
Lower energy prices can matter to bond markets because energy is part of the inflation outlook: if investors expect energy costs to ease, they may see less pressure on future inflation and interest rates. But the October 13 report does not quantify that channel or identify oil as the sole cause of the Treasury move. The bond market was resuming trading after a Monday holiday, and Reuters also described broader market conditions.

The supply picture was uncertain rather than settled. Traders were considering the possibility of more Russian diesel, while attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure continued. That combination helps explain why energy prices could pull back even as risks to future supply remained. It is context for that session, not a forecast that prices would keep falling.
Reuters attributed this assessment to MUFG analysts: “There are some signs that positive global economic surprises are coming off the boil, while US bond yields are stabilising.” It is analyst commentary, not a finding or statement from the U.S. Treasury or Federal Reserve.

How the Reuters quote differs from Treasury’s daily yield data
The 5.192% figure is Reuters’ report of an Asian-session market level on October 13. The U.S. Treasury’s daily par yield curve is a separate measure: the Treasury derives it by interpolating yields from indicative bid-side quotations collected at or near 3:30 p.m. each trading day. The official series is useful for daily comparisons, but it is not a substitute for the earlier intraday quote.

In the Treasury table available for this report, the latest displayed October observation was October 8: the 10-year par yield was 5.27%, compared with 5.31% on October 5.
