When any one of those breaks, notifications can silently stop.
This guide walks through the fixes that actually matter in 2024—PC (Windows + browser) and mobile (iPhone/iPad + Android). Follow the steps in order and you’ll usually restore notifications in under 10 minutes.

Why Twitch Notifications Fail (Quick Diagnosis)
Most failures come from one of these buckets: permissions revoked, notification settings turned off in the Twitch app/account, OS-level notification controls blocking Twitch, or browser privacy tools interfering with push messages.

On PC, Twitch notifications commonly depend on your browser allowing site notifications (permission stored per domain). On mobile, the Twitch app needs both its in-app toggles and the OS notification permission.

Before You Change Anything: What Kind of Notifications Are Broken?
Pick the symptom you’re seeing—this affects the fix:
- “I never get notifications” (streams, follows, raids, subscriptions, whispers)
- “Only some channels work” (e.g., a favorite streamer not working, others do)
- “I get notifications sometimes” (often caused by Do Not Disturb / battery saver / browser session state)
- “In-app works, push doesn’t” (means Twitch is fine; OS/browser permissions are usually the culprit)
If you’re unsure, test one thing: go to recent events in Twitch (for example, a stream start) and then check whether you’re missing the push notification within 1–3 minutes.
Verify Twitch Notification Settings (Account Side)
Start with Twitch itself—if Twitch has notifications disabled for your account, no OS/browser change can fix it.

- Go to Twitch and sign in.
- Open Settings (gear icon) → Notifications.
- Confirm the notification categories you care about are enabled (common ones include follows, subscriptions, channel updates/streams, whispers/mentions depending on what Twitch shows you).
- Save changes if the page requires it.
If you don’t see the categories you expect, confirm you’re using the correct Twitch UI mode (some settings differ between desktop and mobile views).
PC Fixes (Windows + Browser/Desk App)
On PC, Twitch notifications are usually browser push notifications. That means two permissions have to line up: Windows notifications and your browser’s site permission.
These steps are written for the most common setups in 2024: Windows 10/11 with Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
Windows Notification Settings
- Open Settings → System → Notifications.
- Make sure Notifications is turned On.
- Scroll to Get notifications from these senders.
- Find your browser (Chrome/Edge/Firefox) and ensure notifications are allowed.
- Toggle Focus assist (or Do Not Disturb) off for testing.
If Focus assist is on, Twitch push notifications often won’t appear even when permissions are correct.

Chrome
- Open Chrome → click the three dots (⋮) → Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security → Site settings → Notifications.
- Search for twitch.tv (and possibly www.twitch.tv).
- Set it to Allow if it’s blocked or set to ask.
- If you see an entry with Blocked, remove it and re-enable notifications from Twitch when prompted.
- Restart the browser and test by visiting Twitch and toggling/triggering a stream notification if you can.
Chrome stores push permission per origin. If twitch permissions were blocked months ago, you need to change them here.
Microsoft Edge
- Open Edge → click the three dots (⋯) → Settings.
- Go to Cookies and site permissions → Site permissions → Notifications.
- Find twitch.tv or www.twitch.tv.
- Change to Allow.
- Remove blocked entries, then refresh Twitch and re-grant when you’re prompted.
If Edge notifications are blocked by a policy (work/school device), you may need admin changes—otherwise you’ll keep getting blocked even after you “Allow” locally.
Firefox
- Open Firefox → click Menu → Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security → scroll to Permissions.
- Click Notifications → Settings….
- Find twitch.tv and set it to Allow.
- Remove blocked exceptions if needed, then restart Firefox.
Firefox can also be affected by Enhanced Tracking Protection settings. If you’ve tightened privacy hard, loosen permissions just for Twitch.
Blocker/Ad-Blockers and Privacy Extensions
Extensions that block trackers sometimes block the scripts Twitch uses to register push messaging. Disable them temporarily to test.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- In Chrome/Edge: open Extensions (chrome://extensions or edge://extensions).
- Toggle off ad-blockers, privacy tools, script blockers (uBlock Origin, Ghostery, NoScript, etc.).
- Reload Twitch and check whether you can grant notifications again.
- Re-enable extensions one by one until you find the one that breaks it.
If you’re using a strict DNS filter (like Pi-hole or NextDNS), ensure Twitch push endpoints aren’t being blocked.
Try a Fresh Twitch Session
- Log out of Twitch.
- Close the browser completely.
- Re-open the browser and sign back in to Twitch.
- Visit twitch.tv and look for the browser prompt that asks permission for notifications.
- Allow it and test again within 1–3 minutes.
This clears some session-state issues where Twitch thinks you don’t have notification permission.
Mobile Fixes (iPhone, iPad, Android)
On mobile, the Twitch app needs OS-level notification permission and Twitch’s in-app notification toggles. If either is off, you’ll get silence.

- Go to Settings → Notifications.
- Enable the notification categories you want (stream start/channel updates, follows/subs, whispers/mentions—what you see varies by account type).
- Confirm any toggles for Push notifications are on.
After changing settings, fully close Twitch (swipe it away) and reopen it to force the app to re-check permissions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsiOS/iPadOS Notification Settings
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to Notifications → find Twitch.
- Turn Allow Notifications to On.
- Ensure Time Sensitive Notifications is enabled if you want priority alerts (optional).
- Confirm Sounds is on if you need audible alerts.
- Check Focus (or Do Not Disturb) isn’t set to silence Twitch.
If you recently changed Focus settings, notifications can remain blocked until that mode ends (or until you add Twitch to allowed apps).
Android Notification Settings
- Open Settings → Apps → Twitch.
- Tap Notifications.
- Turn Allow notifications to On.
- Ensure the Twitch categories you care about are enabled (some Android skins show separate toggles per category).
- Check Silent is not enabled for Twitch.
Many Android devices also have a global “Do Not Disturb” or “Focus” mode—turn it off briefly to test.
Background App Restrictions and Battery Saver
If Twitch isn’t allowed to run in the background, push notifications may be delayed or inconsistent.
- Android: Settings → Apps → Twitch → Battery (or Battery usage).
- Set battery to Unrestricted or Not restricted.
- iOS: Settings → Battery → check if Low Power Mode is on; disable for testing.
After changing battery settings, wait 2–5 minutes and test again.
Email vs Push vs In-App: Pick the Right Channel
Twitch may send notifications in multiple channels: browser/app push, in-app alerts, and sometimes email for certain events. If you only changed push settings, you may still receive email—but not push.
Confirm what you expect:
- Push notifications: appear as OS notifications (Windows/iOS/Android).
- In-app alerts: show inside Twitch while you’re using the app/browser.
- Email notifications: appear in your inbox and follow separate settings.

- Open the streamer’s channel.
- Check the channel follow/notification controls (the UI can vary, but you’re looking for a notification or follow-related toggle).
- Confirm you’re still following if you expect “follow/stream start” notifications.
Also check whether you’re expecting “every time they go live” versus “only if you’re subscribed”—some users mix these up.
Do Not Disturb, Focus Modes, and Scheduled Quiet Hours
Modern OS features can suppress notifications without turning them “off.” You’ll see the toast banner may still be possible, but audio/banners may be muted.
- Windows: Focus assist schedules
- iOS: Focus modes (Work, Sleep) and allowed apps
- Android: Do Not Disturb schedules and notification silencing
Temporarily disable Focus/DND for 10 minutes to test.
VPN, Proxy, and Network Filters
Some VPNs or network filters break push flows or block required endpoints. If notifications suddenly stopped after changing networks, switch networks and retry.
- Turn off the VPN and test on your normal connection.
- Try a mobile hotspot (if available) to confirm it’s not your ISP’s filtering.
- If you’re on a company/school network, ask whether they block notification services.
This is especially common on locked-down environments where browsers receive stricter permissions.
Time Sync and App Date/Time Glitches
It’s rare, but incorrect date/time can affect notification scheduling logic. Ensure automatic time is enabled.
- Windows: Settings → Time & language → Date & time → Set time automatically
- Android/iOS: Settings → Date & Time → Set automatically
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Plan (Fastest Route)
Use this when you want the quickest path to a working solution. Don’t random-walk across 20 settings.
- Confirm Twitch account settings: Settings → Notifications → make sure the categories you want are enabled.
- Test OS notifications for the relevant app: Windows (sender/browser) or iOS/Android (Twitch).
- PC only: confirm browser site permission for notifications: twitch.tv → Allow.
- Disable extensions / privacy blockers for a 10-minute test.
- Reboot the browser/app after permission changes, then test again within 1–3 minutes.
- Check Focus/DND/battery saver is not suppressing the notifications.
What to Do When the Main Fixes Don’t Work
PC: Clear Site Data and Re-Grant Permissions
If Twitch’s permission state is corrupted, clearing site data is usually effective.

Mobile: Reinstall vs Reset Notification Permissions
Reinstalling can fix corrupted app state, but do it after you’ve adjusted OS notification toggles.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm Twitch OS notification permission is ON.
- Confirm Twitch in-app notification toggles are ON.
- Force-close Twitch, then reopen it.
- If still broken: uninstall Twitch and reinstall the latest version from the App Store/Google Play.
After reinstall, grant any permission prompts again and test within a few minutes.
Common Mistakes That Keep Notifications Broken
- Allowing notifications in Twitch but not in the browser/OS
- Blocking twitch.tv in site settings and forgetting it was once set to Block
- Using Focus/DND while expecting banners to appear
- Assuming “push disabled” only affects one type (stream start vs whispers are separate categories)
- Having an aggressive ad-blocker/script blocker that breaks push registration
- Testing too late: some events may not generate the notification you’re expecting (e.g., you followed long ago but expect a new follow alert)
Comparison: PC Browser vs Mobile App Notifications
| Platform | Main Control Layer | Most Common Failure |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Chrome/Edge/Firefox) | Browser notification permission + Windows notifications | twitch.tv is set to Block in Notifications |
| iPhone/iPad (Twitch app) | iOS Notifications permission + Focus modes | Allow Notifications off or Focus silencing |
| Android (Twitch app) | Android app notifications + battery restrictions | Battery saver or per-channel notification toggle off |
FAQs
Why do I see Twitch notifications on my phone but not on my PC?
Because PC notifications depend on browser site permissions. If twitch.tv is blocked in your browser’s Notifications settings (or an extension blocks it), your phone can still work while your PC stays silent.
I enabled notifications on Twitch, but nothing changes. What should I check next?
Check OS-level permissions. On Windows, make sure Twitch’s sender/browser notifications are allowed and Focus assist is off. On iPhone/iPad and Android, confirm Allow Notifications for Twitch is enabled and not silenced by Focus/DND or battery saver.
Do I need to keep Twitch open for notifications to work?
No. Push notifications are designed to work in the background. If you’re not getting them without the app open, it’s usually an OS permission (or background restriction) issue.
Can VPNs stop Twitch notifications?
Yes. Some VPNs or proxies can interfere with push messaging flows. Test by turning off the VPN temporarily, then check whether notifications return.
Are email notifications the same as push notifications?
No. Email notifications are controlled separately from push. If your goal is pop-up alerts on your device, make sure you’re fixing push/OS notification permissions, not just email preferences.
Final Thoughts
When Twitch notifications aren’t working, the fix is rarely “turn everything off and on again.” It’s usually a specific mismatch: Twitch settings enabled, but browser/OS permissions blocked—or Focus/battery quietly suppressing alerts.
Use the troubleshooting plan to narrow it fast: confirm Twitch preferences, verify OS permissions, then fix browser notifications (PC) or in-app/OS notifications (mobile). If you still don’t get alerts after that, the next step is clearing site data on PC or reinstalling after resetting notification permissions on mobile.
