Why TV power boards are model-specific
A television’s power board is an assembly selected for particular models and configurations. In Sony’s service-manual parts list, the KDL-32CX520 and KDL-40CX520 use different power-board assembly numbers. Compatibility should be established for the particular television and board. The available manuals do not establish a general rule for swapping boards across brands, models, revisions, or regions.

How to check whether a replacement fits
- Identify the complete TV model. Read the model label on the television and include any suffix or regional designation. Do not rely on a shortened model name.
- Read the existing board’s part number. Check its label or printed markings. Compare that number with the part specified for your exact model in its service documentation.
- Check an authoritative compatibility listing. The manual, its supplements, or a parts listing should explicitly identify your model and the replacement part. For example, an iFixit listing for Samsung part BN44-00874F identifies a specific 82-inch Q6D television; it does not establish compatibility with other Samsung TVs.
- Resolve revisions and regional variants. If the model suffix, board revision, or part number differs, confirm the proposed substitution with the applicable documentation or a qualified parts supplier. Do not assume a cross-revision replacement is approved.
A connector that fits, a similar-looking board, matching connector count, or a voltage label is not sufficient by itself. Nor does a generic claim that a board fits a brand establish that it fits your exact television.

Why the specified part matters for safety
Power boards are inside mains-powered equipment. Sony’s KDL-46CX520 service manual marks certain components as critical for safety and says to replace them only with the specified part number. Its parts-page instruction is model-specific, but it illustrates why an apparently similar component is not necessarily an acceptable substitute.
A separate Sony service manual states that critical parts must be replaced only with the specified part number to help prevent electric shock, fire, or other hazards. The KDL-32EX725 service manual was originally issued on February 16, 2011; it is evidence of the requirement in that model’s documentation, not a statement about current parts stock.

Unplug the television before opening it, but do not treat unplugging as proof that every internal component is safe to touch. If you lack electronics-repair training, leave diagnosis and replacement to a qualified technician. Live electrical measurements should not be attempted without appropriate training and equipment.
A no-power symptom does not prove the board has failed
A TV that will not turn on may have a problem elsewhere in its circuitry. Sony’s XBR-70X850B repair manual includes a no-power troubleshooting flowchart that considers the power supply alongside other system boards. Use the XBR-70X850B manual only as an example of model-specific diagnosis: its original release date is April 28, 2014, and its flowchart is not a universal procedure.

Diagnose the fault before ordering a board. Replacing the power board based only on the symptom can leave the original problem unresolved and add an unnecessary repair.

It tells readers to unplug the television and note connector placement, and specifies a Phillips #3 screwdriver.
