The right way to connect a Turtle Beach headset to an Xbox depends on its exact model: wired Recon headsets plug into the controller, the Stealth 600 for Xbox One pairs directly with that console, and Recon Air uses a transmitter attached to the controller. Check the model name before following setup steps; these methods are not interchangeable.

- Comfortable Lightweight Headset Design
- Adjustable High Sensitivity Mic
- Surround Sound Ready for Xbox
- Versatile Compatibility Across Platforms
- 40mm Speakers for Superior Sound
- Plug the headset into the Xbox controller’s headset jack.
- Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the guide. Turtle Beach’s Recon 70 instructions begin: “With the headset plugged into the controller, press the Xbox button on your controller.”
- Open the console’s audio controls. Depending on the guide and interface, this may appear as “Audio,” “Audio & Music,” or a speaker icon.
- Adjust headset volume, chat mixer, and mic monitoring to suit your preference. These controls affect listening level, the balance between game and chat audio, and how much of your own voice you hear.
For the Recon 70 specifically, Turtle Beach recommends maximum Headset Volume, a middle Headset Chat Mixer setting, and a preferred Mic Monitor level. Treat that as model-specific manufacturer guidance, not a required setting for other headsets or every listener. See the Recon 70 Xbox setup guide.
Pair the Stealth 600 for Xbox One directly to the console
The cited pairing instructions apply to the Stealth 600 for Xbox One. They describe pairing the headset directly with an Xbox One console, rather than plugging it into the controller. The pairing-button location differs among Xbox One models, so locate the button using the instructions for your particular console and then follow Turtle Beach’s Stealth 600 for Xbox One pairing guide.

Troubleshoot the connection by setup type
- Wired Recon: Confirm the plug is fully connected to the controller, then return to the Xbox audio controls and check headset volume, chat mixer, and mic monitoring.
- Stealth 600 for Xbox One: Confirm you are following the Xbox One pairing process and have found the pairing button for your console model.
- Recon Air: Check that the transmitter is connected to the powered controller and that the headset and transmitter show a successful pairing.
- Windows Sonic: Reopen Volume & Audio Output and verify that the intended Headset Format is selected.
If those checks do not resolve the problem, use the support page for the exact headset model. The setup guides cited here do not provide a complete diagnosis for every possible audio, microphone, controller-jack, or firmware fault.
