Turtle Beach sells two Afterglow controllers for Nintendo Switch 2: a $29.99 wired model with Hall-Effect thumbsticks and a $64.99 wireless model with TMR thumbsticks, motion controls, and a rechargeable battery. Both put translucent shells, four preset RGB lighting modes, a C Button, and two mappable rear buttons at the center of the package. The choice is mainly between a lower-priced USB connection and untethered play; the available product specifications do not establish which feels or performs better in use.
What are the Turtle Beach Afterglow Switch 2 controllers?
Afterglow is a pair of officially licensed controllers for Nintendo Switch 2, offered in wired and wireless versions. Turtle Beach’s US product pages list the wired controller at $29.99 and the wireless one at $64.99; those are listed direct-store prices, not guaranteed street prices, and can change. The prices match the respective launch MSRPs announced by Turtle Beach on October 6, 2025, ahead of a planned late-November/early-December 2025 launch (Turtle Beach’s announcement).
This is a feature-based comparison, not a hands-on verdict: the specifications and performance language below come from Turtle Beach. No independent latency, battery, comfort, durability, or stick-drift testing is established here.

What does the RGB treatment offer?
Both models pair translucent shells with four preset RGB lighting modes. The product specifications establish the number of presets, but do not describe a software editor or a wider set of customization options. If configurable lighting is important, check the product details rather than assuming the presets can be freely changed.

How do the controls differ?
Thumbsticks: Hall-Effect on wired, TMR on wireless
The wired model uses Hall-Effect thumbsticks; the wireless model uses TMR thumbsticks. These are distinct sensor technologies, but the product pages do not provide independent comparative measurements. Turtle Beach’s claims about precision, responsiveness, or reduced drift should therefore be read as vendor claims—not proof that one version is more accurate or will avoid drift longer.
C Button and mappable rear buttons
Both controllers include a C Button associated with GameChat features and two mappable rear buttons. The wired model’s listing specifies a 3.5 mm headset jack and USB-chat compatibility in supported games. That qualification matters: the listing does not promise headset or chat support in every game, and the wireless page does not state an equivalent audio-jack feature.

Which Afterglow model should you choose?
Choose the wired model if USB play suits you
- You want the lower listed US price: $29.99 on Turtle Beach’s 2026 product page.
- A 10-foot USB connection works for your setup and you do not want to manage a rechargeable controller battery.
- You want Hall-Effect sticks, RGB presets, rear buttons, and the listed headset jack in the less expensive version.
Choose the wireless model if you want untethered play
- You prefer wireless operation and value the manufacturer-listed range of up to 30 feet.
- You want motion controls and a rechargeable battery, which Turtle Beach rates for up to 40 hours per charge.
- You need the broader listed compatibility that includes Switch Lite.
Neither list of specifications establishes a performance winner. The practical distinction is the connection and feature set, not a verified advantage in responsiveness, comfort, or durability.
