Check that your AirPods support noise cancellation
Noise Cancellation is available on supported AirPods Pro models, AirPods 4 (ANC), AirPods 5 models, and AirPods Max models. Standard AirPods without active noise cancellation (ANC) cannot gain it through Android settings. Check the exact model against Apple’s list of supported models and listening modes.

Turn on Noise Cancellation using your AirPods
AirPods Pro and other supported in-ear models
- Wear both earbuds.
- Press and hold the force sensor or touch control on either stem until you hear a chime.
- Repeat the press-and-hold gesture to cycle through the listening modes until you hear Noise Cancellation.
The gesture changes the mode on the earbuds; you do not need to find an AirPods noise-cancellation switch in Android settings. Apple describes the listening-mode controls in its AirPods noise-control instructions.
AirPods Max
Press the dedicated noise-control button on the headphones to switch listening modes. AirPods Max do not use the in-ear stem gesture.

Pair AirPods with Android
- Put the AirPods into pairing mode so they are discoverable.
- On Android, open Settings, go to Bluetooth or Connected devices, and choose the AirPods from the available devices. Android menu names vary by device.
- Once connected, use the AirPods’ physical controls to select Noise Cancellation.
Google’s Android pairing instructions warn that “Some functionalities of these devices may not be supported on your Android device.” Android Bluetooth pairing does not provide the full set of Apple AirPods settings or controls; see Apple’s instructions for using AirPods with a non-Apple device.
If the gesture does not select Noise Cancellation
The press-and-hold action can be configured to call Siri or to cycle through only selected listening modes. If holding the stem invokes an assistant, does nothing, or skips Noise Cancellation, the saved control configuration may be the reason.

- Connect the AirPods to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Open the AirPods settings on that device and review the press-and-hold control assignment.
- Set the action to switch listening modes and ensure Noise Cancellation is among the selected modes.
- Reconnect the AirPods to Android and try the gesture again.
Apple explains the configurable control in its instructions for changing AirPods settings. Android does not expose this Apple-device configuration.

If Noise Cancellation seems weak or inactive
- Verify the selected mode. If Adaptive Audio is selected, switch specifically to Noise Cancellation when testing ANC.
- Check the fit. For AirPods Pro, reseat the earbuds; Apple says noise control works best with a good fit.
- Check the microphones. Make sure the external microphones are not blocked or covered. Apple identifies blocked microphones as a possible cause of noise-control issues; see its AirPods noise-cancellation troubleshooting guidance.
- Confirm the model and gesture. Only ANC-capable models have the feature, and the press-and-hold cycle must include Noise Cancellation.
ANC reduces external sound; it does not guarantee complete silence. What you hear depends partly on fit and the selected listening mode.
