Upload the photo to Gemini, check its transcription, then ask it to save the corrected items as a Keep list.
Turn a notebook photo into a Keep checklist
- Upload the photo to Gemini Apps. Start a prompt and attach the notebook image from your device or photo library. Google says Gemini Apps can analyze uploaded photos and other supported files. Use Gemini Apps directly; the Keep connection cannot read an image or drawing stored inside a Keep note. Google’s Gemini Apps file-upload instructions explain the upload process, and Google’s connected-app guidance describes the Keep limitation.
- Ask for a transcription, not an unchecked list. Suggested wording: “Read this notebook photo. Transcribe only the actionable items, preserve the original wording where possible, flag words you can’t confidently read, and format the result as a checklist.”
- Compare the result with the photo. Look closely at hard-to-read handwriting, crossed-out entries, quantities, names, and line breaks. Gemini can make inaccurate responses; Google does not publish a handwriting-accuracy benchmark for this task. Correct the checklist before asking it to save anything.
- Connect Google Keep and ask Gemini to create the list. Keep Activity must be on and Google Workspace connected to Gemini Apps. You can specify the destination with
@Google Keepand ask, for example, “Create a list in Keep” or “Create a list of these items in Keep.” Google’s connected-app instructions cover the prerequisites and supported prompts. - Open the new Keep list and check it. Confirm the saved items and their wording before relying on the list. Google warns that Gemini-generated suggestions may be inaccurate or inappropriate.
Keeping transcription and saving as separate steps gives you a chance to catch mistakes before they become checklist items.

What you need to use Gemini with Keep
- A notebook photo you can upload to Gemini Apps.
- Keep Activity turned on and Google Workspace connected to Gemini Apps to create or save a list through the connected-app route. Manage Keep Activity in Connected Apps settings.
- Access to the relevant Gemini and Keep features on your account. Availability can vary; check the current in-app options and Google’s help pages.
The connected-app feature does not work in Gemini in Google Messages. If you want Gemini to read a notebook image, upload the image to Gemini Apps rather than attaching it to a Keep note and expecting the Keep integration to inspect it. Google’s Keep integration guidance describes these constraints.
How this differs from Keep’s list creator
Google also documents a prompt-based “Help me create a list” feature inside Keep. It is a related option, but Google’s instructions describe creating a list from a text prompt—not reading a photo of handwritten notes.

For the Keep-native option, Google’s instructions say to open Keep on Android, tap Create, select Help me create a list, enter a prompt, tap Create, review or edit the suggestion, then tap Insert. Google describes eligibility limits, including Google AI plan availability and Pixel-device access; access may differ by account, and Pixel use may be subject to Gemini limits. Check Google Keep Help and the options shown in your app.

Google Gemini Apps Help, accessed in 2026, states that a prompt can include up to 10 files, subject to availability, and that non-video files can be up to 100 MB. These are general upload limits, not a promise that Gemini will transcribe every page accurately. Check Google’s current upload guidance for applicable limits.
