Tripadvisor Forums: How to Ask a Question and Reply

Use Tripadvisor Forums to find a destination discussion, post a focused question, or reply to an existing topic while following the community guidelines.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To use Tripadvisor forums, open the Forums home page, find the destination or discussion area that fits your travel question, then use its question control to start a topic. To join an existing conversation, open that topic and select its reply control. Labels and placement can vary by page and device, so follow the controls shown in your current interface.

Find the forum that fits your question

Start at Tripadvisor Forums, which directs travelers to ask people who have been to a place. Choose the destination or discussion area most closely related to what you need to know. A question about getting around a city, for example, belongs in a forum relevant to that destination rather than in an unrelated travel discussion.

You can also navigate directly to a destination forum if you already know where you want to post. Tripadvisor’s support guidance describes selecting a destination forum before asking a question; the Forums home page is another entry point, not a guaranteed better route.

Post a new question

  1. Open the relevant forum. Use the Forums home page or go directly to the destination or subject area.
  2. Select the question control. Look for a button or link such as “Ask a question.” Tripadvisor’s current Support forum shows that label, but its wording and placement may differ elsewhere or on another device.
  3. Write a specific title and message. State the travel question clearly in the title, then include the details someone needs to give a useful answer: where and when you are traveling, what options you are considering, and any relevant constraints. Keep the post focused on the information or decision you need.
  4. Review the live prompt and submit. Follow the instructions displayed on the page before posting. The available guidance does not establish that every forum action requires sign-in, so use the prompt you see rather than assuming a universal account requirement.

Tripadvisor support guidance describes adding a descriptive title and putting the question in the message. Its posting guidelines also call for relevant, readable contributions.

Reply to an existing topic

Open the topic you want to contribute to and use the reply control on that page. Reply in the existing conversation when your information addresses the original question or adds to its discussion; starting a separate topic for the same issue can create a duplicate. Follow the page’s current prompt to submit your response.

Follow the forum posting rules

  • Stay relevant and readable. Keep the post connected to the destination or discussion, and make your question or contribution easy to understand.
  • Do not duplicate posts or spam. Check for an existing conversation before starting a new topic, and avoid repetitive or unwanted submissions.
  • Do not use the forum for promotion. Tripadvisor prohibits commercial promotion and discourages external links that are irrelevant or purely promotional.
  • Disclose relevant business ties. If you participate in a discussion about a business you are connected with, disclose that affiliation.

Read Tripadvisor’s community guidelines for the full rules.

If the controls look different

Forum layouts and controls can vary, so look for the action appropriate to the task on the page you are viewing: a question control in the relevant forum for a new topic, or a reply control inside an existing topic. Notification behavior and sign-in requirements are not established consistently across the current pages and devices; rely on the prompts shown in your session.
