Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If Windows says “Compatible TPM cannot be found,” it does not necessarily mean your PC has no TPM. The module may be disabled in UEFI, or the computer may not support one. Check what Windows reports, confirm support for your exact model, and only then change firmware settings. Avoid clearing the TPM unless you have a specific reason and a recovery plan.
1. Check whether Windows can see the TPM
Start with Windows’ status before changing firmware. Open Windows Security > Device security and look for Security processor and Security processor details. If the details are available, note the specification version.

You can also press Windows+R, enter tpm.msc, and press Enter. Check the status and specification version in the TPM Management console. If it says “Compatible TPM cannot be found,” that result alone does not prove the PC lacks TPM hardware; the TPM may be disabled in UEFI. Microsoft says TPM 2.0 is required for Windows 11, so a reported version below 2.0 does not meet that requirement. Microsoft’s TPM 2.0 guidance
2. Confirm that your exact PC or motherboard supports TPM
Check the specifications and support information for the precise computer or motherboard model. An absent Security processor entry can mean the hardware is unsupported, or that a supported TPM is turned off in UEFI; Windows’ display does not distinguish those causes by itself. Microsoft notes that most PCs shipped in the last five years are capable of TPM 2.0, but that broad statement is not a guarantee for any individual device. Check Microsoft’s guidance and consult your device maker.

- Please check the Pinout of mainboard at the official website and make sure it compatible with the pinout of TPM module before purchasing, thank you.
3. Enable the TPM in UEFI using model-specific instructions
If the manufacturer confirms TPM support, consult its manual or support page for the correct firmware setting. Names and menu locations differ between models, so do not assume a path from another PC applies to yours. The setting may appear under Advanced, Security, or Trusted Computing, with a label such as Security Device, Security Device Support, TPM State, Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT), Intel PTT, AMD fTPM, or AMD PSP fTPM.
Where supported, Windows offers a route into UEFI firmware settings through its recovery options. Follow the instructions for your Windows version and device, then change only the documented TPM-related setting, save, and restart. Microsoft explains that the exact procedure depends on the PC maker. See Microsoft’s steps for enabling TPM 2.0.

4. Use the exact Windows Security error to choose the next step
In Windows Security > Device security > Security processor details, open the troubleshooting option if one is shown. Read the specific message rather than treating every warning as the same “not detected” problem.

5. Update Windows or device firmware only when applicable
For a TPM firmware error or incompatibility, check Windows Update and the manufacturer’s support page for firmware applicable to your device. Install only an update intended for the exact PC or motherboard model, and follow the maker’s instructions. Microsoft’s firmware-error guidance describes a specific sequence that can include applicable Windows and device firmware updates followed by clearing the TPM; that is not a general instruction to clear the TPM for every detection error. Read Microsoft’s TPM firmware update guidance.
6. Clear the TPM only for a specific reason and with recovery ready
Clearing the TPM resets it and removes keys and protected information stored there. That can affect data protected by those keys and Windows Hello sign-in. Before clearing, back up important data and confirm that you can recover access to anything protected by the TPM. Use Windows’ TPM or security processor controls when appropriate; do not clear it directly in UEFI as a routine detection fix.

Do not clear the TPM on a work or school device unless your IT administrator directs you to. Microsoft documents clearing as an option for certain TPM initialization or storage problems, not as a first step for every “not detected” message. Microsoft Learn: initialize and configure TPM ownership and Microsoft’s TPM troubleshooting guide.
7. Contact the manufacturer if the TPM remains unavailable
Ask the PC or motherboard maker for help if the model supports TPM and it is enabled but Windows still cannot detect it, if Windows reports a firmware incompatibility, or if the firmware menus do not match the published instructions. Share the exact model, Windows-reported status, specification version if shown, and the full error message. A particular replacement part or repair cannot be identified without device-specific diagnostics.

If the error occurs while clearing the TPM and includes 0x80290300, Microsoft documents a possible cause: OS-based TPM reset or management options may be disabled in BIOS. This applies to that clear-operation error, not to every TPM detection problem. See Microsoft’s guidance for error 0x80290300.
