TP-Link Deco XE75 Review: Is This Wi-Fi 6E Mesh System Right for You?

The Deco XE75 combines tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, optional Ethernet backhaul and straightforward app setup, but its ports are limited to Gigabit and coverage depends on the home.

The TP-Link Deco XE75 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E mesh system with optional Ethernet backhaul, simple app-led setup and three Gigabit Ethernet ports per unit. Independent tests found strong performance close to a node, but results fell at longer distances, and the system has no multi-gig Ethernet. It is worth considering if your devices can use 6 GHz and you value straightforward mesh setup; it is a weaker fit if you need 2.5GbE or extensive router controls.

What the Deco XE75’s AXE5400 rating means

The XE75 supports Wi-Fi 6E on the 6 GHz band and earlier Wi-Fi generations on 2.4 and 5 GHz. TP-Link’s US datasheet lists maximum radio link rates of 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 2,402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 2,402 Mbps on 6 GHz. Their combined class rating produces “AXE5400”; it is not a promise that a single phone or computer will download at 5.4 Gbps. Actual throughput depends on the client, network conditions and environment. TP-Link’s product page and US datasheet and support materials describe the product and its qualifications.

The 6 GHz band can connect compatible Wi-Fi 6E devices, and it can also be used for wireless communication between mesh nodes depending on configuration. If you can run cable between nodes, the XE75 supports optional Ethernet backhaul instead. Whether 6 GHz helps in practice depends on compatible clients, node placement and the walls and floors between them.

How fast is the Deco XE75 in independent tests?

Published results offer useful examples, not a forecast for every home. The tests below used different methods and environments, so their numbers should not be compared as if they came from one controlled head-to-head trial.

Tom’s Guide: a two-node test in an older, large home

In a two-piece XE75 setup in a 3,500-square-foot, 100-year-old home, Tom’s Guide reported 1.220 Gbps at 15 feet, 299.1 Mbps at 50 feet, 318.5 Mbps at 75 feet and 23.7 Mbps at 90 feet. Its test used Ixia IxChariot to simulate ten data-hungry users and a Samsung Galaxy Book Pro as the receiving system. The reviewer said the two units came close to covering the home but left a few dead zones that a third node might have filled. These are results from that specific setup, not guaranteed speeds or coverage. Read Tom’s Guide’s XE75 review.

Engadget: reported speeds around one household

Engadget’s reviewer reported about 270 Mbps near the primary node, 260 Mbps in an office two floors away and around 220 Mbps in a back-bedroom dead spot. The reviewer said the network stabilized after setup and a firmware update and remained stable in that home. These household observations are not a controlled benchmark and do not establish what another home will receive. Read Engadget’s XE75 review.

  • Unlock the Full Potential of WiFi 6 - Opening the 6 GHz band will change the game for WiFi 6. WiFi 6 brings about upgraded performance in network efficiency and capacity. Whereas the advantages of WiFi 6 are not fully realized while competing with transmissions from WiFi 5 (or other radios). Together, the reports show why a 6 GHz label alone cannot settle a coverage question: distance, building construction, placement and test conditions matter. TP-Link also cautions that throughput, coverage and device capacity vary with network conditions, client limitations, materials, obstacles, traffic and client location.

How many XE75 units do you need?

Choose node count for the actual floor plan, not just a square-foot headline. TP-Link advertises up to 7,200 square feet for a three-pack on its US product page, but that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified promise for a particular house. Its own qualifications note that wireless coverage varies with the environment and network conditions.

  • Consider the number of floors, distance between rooms and dense walls or other obstacles.
  • Place nodes where they can maintain a useful connection to one another, rather than hiding them at the far edge of a weak-coverage area.
  • If you can connect nodes with Ethernet, wired backhaul is a documented alternative to relying on a wireless link between them.
  • Use a two-node test result as an example, not a guarantee: Tom’s Guide’s two units left dead zones in its 3,500-square-foot test home.

Ports, setup and app controls

Three Gigabit ports per node, with no multi-gig Ethernet

Each XE75 unit has three auto-sensing Gigabit Ethernet ports. The ports support wired connections and the system offers Ethernet backhaul, but none accepts 2.5- or 5-Gbps connections. If multi-gig WAN or LAN is a requirement, the XE75’s wired interface is a material limitation. Tom’s Guide also notes the port-speed ceiling.

Easy setup, fewer advanced controls

Engadget described the Deco app as readable and useful for viewing network topology. Both Engadget and Tom’s Guide characterized the setup as easy, while noting that configuration options are limited compared with more advanced networking interfaces. Tom’s Guide also observed recurring prompts to upgrade to HomeShield Pro. TP-Link says HomeShield has a free Basic Plan and a paid Pro plan; check the current plan details directly before relying on a particular feature or price. TP-Link product information.

The system supports router and access-point modes, which gives buyers a choice of how it fits into an existing home network. Those modes do not change the XE75’s Gigabit port ceiling.

Hardware revisions and firmware: check before updating

TP-Link’s US support page lists separate XE75 hardware-version paths, including V1, V1.60, V2, V2.60 and V3.60. Firmware is not one-size-fits-all: TP-Link instructs owners to select the version that matches both the unit’s hardware revision and purchase region.

For the US V3.60 path, TP-Link lists firmware 1.5.0 Build 20260603, published July 20, 2026, with WireGuard VPN among the added features. That does not establish that the same firmware or feature is available for every XE75 revision or region. The update is marked irreversible, so read the current official instructions and confirm the exact hardware version and region before installing it. Check TP-Link’s XE75 support and firmware page.

Availability and what to verify before buying

TP-Link’s UK product page labels the XE75 “Product phasing out” and points to Deco X50 as a one-pack replacement. That is a UK-specific status notice; it does not prove that the XE75 is discontinued worldwide. Current US retail pricing and stock are not established here. See TP-Link UK’s product page.

  • Confirm whether you are buying a one-, two- or three-unit pack, and compare the total price for the quantity your layout needs.
  • Check the seller, region, hardware revision and applicable warranty terms before purchase.
  • Verify that the unit’s revision and region have the firmware and features you expect.
  • Check current HomeShield plan terms if a security or parental-control feature is part of your decision.
  • If you intend to use wired backhaul, plan for Ethernet cabling; it is optional, not required for every installation.

Who should choose the Deco XE75?

A sensible fit

  • You want a tri-band mesh system with Wi-Fi 6E and have, or expect to add, compatible 6 GHz clients.
  • You value an app-led setup and do not need deep manual network controls.
  • You can make use of wireless or Ethernet backhaul and your wired network does not require multi-gig ports.

Look elsewhere if

  • You need 2.5GbE or faster WAN or LAN connectivity.
  • You require extensive advanced configuration in the router interface.
  • You are relying on a manufacturer coverage figure to guarantee performance across a complicated floor plan.

There is no basis here for calling the XE75 the universal “best” Wi-Fi 6E mesh system: the available independent results are tied to individual homes and test setups, and do not establish population-wide outcomes or a current, comprehensive comparison with competing systems. Judge it against your layout, client compatibility, port-speed needs and locally available pack and hardware revision.
