Axios reports the package combines $9.5 million in equity raised through SAFE notes with $2 million in venture debt—not $11.5 million of priced equity.
What Torch Systems does
Torch Systems sells an outdoor monitoring service aimed at organizations responsible for distributed infrastructure, including utilities, renewable-energy operators, municipalities, and industrial operators. Its TerraNode device combines solar-powered sensing hardware with Torch’s software, which the company says turns field signals into alerts and operational intelligence.

Torch describes TerraNode as integrating optical and thermal cameras with acoustic, gas, air-quality, and environmental sensors, with AI running on the device. The intended benefit is monitoring remote sites without relying on external power or wired network connections. Torch’s product page advertises event detection, mapping, and alerts. These are company-described capabilities, not independently verified performance results.
What TerraNode is designed to monitor
Torch presents the system as a way to monitor several kinds of outdoor-site risks and changes:
#1 Best Overall

- Security and access events
- Vegetation growth
- Air-quality and other environmental changes
The shift in positioning is from a narrower emphasis on wildfire detection to broader “outdoor asset intelligence”: using sensors and software to help operators understand conditions across remote sites. The company describes monitoring and detection goals; the available reporting does not establish that TerraNode prevents fires or guarantees detection.
How the $11.5 million is structured
Axios reported the financing components in October 2026. The distinction matters because the package combines equity financing and debt rather than representing a single priced equity round.

- One Unified Security System, Powered by 1st-Gen aosuBase: 32GB of local storage comes ready to use, holding about 120 days of loop recording. No subscription required. Connect up to 4 cameras to one base with a stable wireless connection and centralized local storage. Recordings saved to aosuBase are event-based, triggered by detected activity.
- Multi-Cam Live View for All-at-Once Monitoring: Watch up to four live camera feeds simultaneously in the aosu app and monitor multiple areas on one screen without opening each camera individually. Live View is available through the aosu app only; the base does not support HDMI or TV output.
- 360° Coverage with Pan, Tilt, and Smart Auto Tracking: Pan and tilt to see all around your property. When activity is detected, the camera automatically follows people and other movement to keep the action in view while recording, giving you a more complete view of what happens around your home.
- 2K (3MP) Clarity with Full-Color Night Vision: Capture clear details in 2K and zoom in up to 6x for a closer look. Built-in spotlights enable full-color night vision, helping you see important color details like clothing and vehicles after dark. For more discreet monitoring, switch to infrared mode for black-and-white night vision without visible lighting.
- Quick Setup with a Pre-Paired System: Connect aosuBase to your router's LAN port with the included Ethernet cable. Cameras connect wirelessly to aosuBase instead of your home Wi-Fi. The system comes pre-paired, so simply power on the cameras and complete setup in the app without pairing each camera one by one. The cameras are designed to work with the included aosuBase, and add-on cameras connect through the base as well.
The announcement therefore supports both hardware expansion and continued software development. It does not disclose a detailed spending breakdown for those efforts.
What is known about deployments
Unite.AI reports that Dominion Energy is using Torch at solar sites. It also reports Torch’s claim that hundreds of devices had been deployed across six states. Those figures are company-reported deployment claims in the outlet’s coverage, not independently audited measures of adoption. The available reporting does not establish a detection-performance benchmark or independently measured outcomes.

Why the announcement matters
TerraNode targets an operational challenge: many utility, energy, municipal, and industrial assets sit in outdoor locations that are difficult to monitor continuously. Torch’s approach combines on-site sensing with software intended to surface conditions for operators, while solar power and onboard processing are designed for remote deployments.

CEO and co-founder Vasya Tremsin described the company’s goal this way: “Critical outdoor infrastructure should be able to tell you what’s happening before a small problem becomes a major event.” That is the company’s strategic case for the platform, rather than evidence of a measured reduction in incidents.
