Yes, you can still be tracked or identified while using Tor. Tor Browser is designed to hide your real IP address from the websites you visit and make those destinations less visible to your local network. But it cannot hide an account you log into, personal details you share, or every clue your browser and behavior may reveal.
What Tor hides from websites and your network
Tor Browser routes its traffic through the Tor network. A destination website sees the address of a Tor exit relay rather than your home IP address. Your internet provider or another observer on your local network generally cannot see the names and addresses of the sites you visit in the same way they could with a direct connection. That protection is about network visibility, not a guarantee that your identity is unknowable. A website may identify you through information you provide, and observers may use evidence outside the Tor network.

How you can still be identified or linked
Accounts and information you disclose
If you sign into an account associated with your name, the service knows which account is using it, even though it sees a Tor exit address instead of your real IP. The same applies if you provide identifying details in a form, message, or other interaction. Tor separates network location from identity; it does not make an identified account anonymous. Browser fingerprinting
Websites can use browser characteristics to distinguish visitors, even without cookies. Tor Browser reduces how distinctive its users appear by standardizing browser attributes and using protections such as letterboxing, user-agent normalization, canvas protections, and first-party isolation. These measures make users harder to single out; they do not make every browser identical or make fingerprinting impossible. Tor Project: Anti-fingerprinting
Extra extensions can make your setup more unusual and increase the browser’s attack surface. The Tor Project advises against adding them.

Activity across sites
Tor Browser uses separate circuits for different website addresses, which can limit a third-party tracker’s ability to infer that visits to different sites came from the same browser. Its two reset options do different jobs:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- New Identity closes tabs, clears private session information, and uses new circuits.
- New Tor Circuit for this Site changes the circuit used for the site, but does not clear private information or unlink activity that already occurred.
Changing a circuit is not the same as erasing account-based or otherwise identifying activity. Tor Project: Staying anonymous
Using a different browser or another app
Use Tor Browser rather than routing another browser through Tor. Other browsers may expose your real IP through DNS or WebRTC leaks, disclose details such as your operating system, fonts, or plugins, or retain cookies and cache between sessions. Tor Browser protects its own traffic; it does not automatically route or protect other applications on your device. Tor Project: Can I use a browser other than Tor Browser? Tor Project: Staying anonymous
Unencrypted connections and downloaded files
Tor encrypts traffic within the Tor network, but it does not automatically encrypt the connection from the exit relay to an ordinary website. Check that a site uses HTTPS and verify that you are on the expected site before entering sensitive information. Tor Project: HTTPS and Tor

Downloaded documents can create a separate exposure: a file opened in an external application may make network connections outside Tor Browser. Be especially cautious with DOC and PDF files; the Tor Project advises using the browser’s built-in PDF viewer rather than opening such documents externally when possible. Tor Project: HTTPS and Tor
Evidence beyond the network
The Tor Project says its developers cannot trace users through the Tor network. That does not prevent identification through conventional investigation, such as technical analysis, interviews, or physical investigation. Tor limits some forms of network observation; it does not erase evidence or guarantee that a person cannot be identified. Tor Project: What we do

Practical steps to reduce exposure
- Use Tor Browser as designed. Do not substitute another browser or assume other applications are protected by it. Tor Project: Can I use a browser other than Tor Browser?
- Avoid identifying yourself when anonymity matters. Signing into a personal account or sharing identifying details can reveal who you are to the service.
- Keep the browser configuration standard. Avoid extra extensions that can make the browser more distinctive or add risk. Tor Project: Anti-fingerprinting
- Choose the reset that matches your need. Use New Identity to clear private session information and start fresh; use New Tor Circuit for this Site only when you need a different circuit and do not need session information cleared. Tor Project: Staying anonymous
- Check HTTPS before sending sensitive information and avoid opening downloaded documents in external applications if they may make network connections. Tor Project: HTTPS and Tor
What level of anonymity to expect
The Tor Project’s security guidance puts the limit plainly: “Tor Browser includes many privacy protections, but it cannot guarantee perfect anonymity.” Tor Project: Staying anonymous
So the practical answer depends on what you mean by “tracked”: Tor helps conceal your real IP from destination sites and reduces what local observers can learn about your browsing destinations. It does not stop a site from recognizing an account you use, guarantee that your browser cannot be fingerprinted, or prevent identification through evidence outside the network.
