If you’re in Timor-Leste, connect through a local mobile operator’s SIM or eSIM, then check the public IP your connection actually uses. If you’re abroad, use only a VPN or other remote service that explicitly lists a Timor-Leste endpoint—and verify that it works before relying on it. The available sources confirm local mobile providers and some eSIM setup steps, but do not verify a remote Timor-Leste VPN server or guarantee how any connection will appear in IP-location databases.
Choose the method that matches where you are
- In Timor-Leste: A local carrier SIM or eSIM is the directly supported route to local mobile connectivity. It does not guarantee that every IP geolocation service will identify your public IP as Timor-Leste.
- Outside Timor-Leste: Look for a VPN or hosted network endpoint that currently and explicitly offers a Timor-Leste location. The sources available here do not verify a provider with such an endpoint, so do not subscribe based on a general claim of broad country coverage.
A Timor-Leste SIM used while roaming abroad is not a verified workaround: the available sources do not establish where roaming traffic exits the network.

If you’re in Timor-Leste, get local mobile service
The Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANC), Timor-Leste’s telecom regulator, lists Timor Telecom, TELKOMCEL, and Telemor as operational providers. Its directory is a starting point for finding operators, not a comparison of coverage, speeds, prices, or IP geolocation outcomes. See the ANC operator directory.

Timor Telecom’s eSIM instructions say to check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, visit a TT store with valid identification, obtain a QR code, and scan it while connected to Wi-Fi. The page lists a $1 fee for a new or replacement eSIM and says eSIM service can include calls, SMS, data, packages, and promotions. Confirm the fee, eligibility, and store process directly with the operator, because terms may change. Its official site also displays prepaid offers; check the live offer rather than relying on an old price or allowance.

TELKOMCEL and Telemor
The ANC directory also lists TELKOMCEL and Telemor. Telemor’s service page describes eSIM activation and says SIM registration uses customer document information; confirm current registration requirements with the operator before purchase or travel. See Telemor’s official service page. The available sources do not provide a like-for-like comparison of these operators’ prices, coverage, speeds, or public IP behavior.
Check SIM registration guidance
For current prepaid SIM registration guidance, consult the ANC’s regulator website and the chosen operator. Requirements may depend on the service and can change; do not assume one operator’s process applies to another.

If you’re abroad, verify the endpoint before paying
A remote connection works only if the service routes your traffic through an endpoint in the country you need. A provider’s general claim to have many locations is not enough: confirm that it specifically lists Timor-Leste, check that the location is currently available on your plan, and test the resulting IP before using it for a sensitive or location-dependent task. No Timor-Leste VPN endpoint was verified in the sources available for this article.
- Check the provider’s current server or location list for an explicit Timor-Leste entry.
- Ask the provider to confirm that the location is live and included in your intended plan.
- Connect, then use an IP lookup service to see the public IP and reported country.
- If the location is missing or the lookup reports another country, disconnect and contact the provider; do not treat the connection as a Timor-Leste IP.
A VPN connection can change the public IP seen by a website, but neither a provider’s location label nor one lookup guarantees that every website or geolocation database will classify it the same way.

Verify the result, not just the connection
Once connected, check the public IP and country with an IP geolocation lookup. If you need access to a particular site, test that site too: different services can use different IP databases or apply additional location checks. If the result is not Timor-Leste, the connection has not met your practical requirement, even if the SIM, eSIM, or VPN appears connected.
Timor Telecom’s privacy policy identifies IP addresses among technical data it may collect. That confirms IP information is part of the operator’s service data; it does not state which public address a customer receives or how external databases classify it. See the Timor Telecom privacy policy.

What coverage figures can—and can’t—tell you
A Timor-Leste government planning document gives historical context, reporting 2G mobile coverage across 96% of population areas and 3G data services in all municipalities. The cited passage does not specify the year for those figures, so they should not be read as a 2026 coverage guarantee or as a current, operator-specific measurement. It also says 4G had recently launched in urban centres, but does not establish present-day availability. Check current coverage with the operator for your destination. See the government planning document.
A government release dated 23 April 2026 describes plans to install Starlink internet at remote border patrol posts. That announcement concerns a limited government-site project; it does not establish general retail availability or provide a consumer proxy endpoint. See the government release.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a local SIM guarantees a local IP: Check the public IP after connecting; the available operator information does not guarantee geolocation results.
- Assuming a SIM will work as a local endpoint while roaming: The available sources do not establish where roaming traffic exits.
- Paying for a VPN based on an unverified location claim: Confirm an explicit, current Timor-Leste endpoint before subscribing.
- Treating historical coverage as current: Ask the operator about service at your location rather than using older nationwide figures as a guarantee.
- Assuming providers share registration rules: Check the regulator and the selected operator for current requirements.
