Redmine includes built-in time tracking: enable the Time tracking module for a project, then log hours against an issue or directly against the project. Use Spent Time Details to inspect entries and Spent Time Report to group and export them. The most common cause of confusing totals is treating decimal hours as hours and minutes rather than fractions of an hour.
Enable time tracking for a Redmine project
Time tracking is a standard Redmine project module. For a new project, enable it during project creation. For an existing project, open the project and go to Settings > Modules, select Time tracking, and save. The module must be active to use the project’s Spent Time report.

People also need the relevant role permissions. Redmine separates permission to log time from permission to view or edit entries, so module activation alone may not give every project member access to every time-tracking action.

How do I log time in Redmine?
Open an issue and choose Log time, or include time while updating the issue. Enter the duration, select an activity if required, and add a comment that explains the work. The activity categorizes the work; the comment provides context for later review.

Redmine also lets project managers use spent time alongside estimates when reviewing planning and progress. Record work against the relevant issue when there is one; use a project-level entry when the work does not belong to a particular issue.
Track time on a project instead of an issue
Create a time entry at project level and leave the issue field empty. The entry is associated with the project, but not with an individual issue. It can still appear in time details and reports.

Enter durations without confusing hours and minutes
Redmine accepts hour-and-minute formats such as 1h, 30m, 1h30, and 1:30, as well as decimal-hour values such as 1.5 or 1,5. In decimal notation, the digits after the decimal point are a fraction of an hour: 1.5 means 1 hour 30 minutes, not 1 hour 5 minutes. Redmine time-tracking documentation

Why are my Redmine time totals wrong?
Redmine’s FAQ names the issue as “The time calculations in ‘Spent time Reports’ are wrong.” A common explanation is decimal-hour arithmetic. For example, 1.65 hours is 1 hour 39 minutes: 0.65 of an hour is 39 minutes. Keep the accumulated value as 1.65 hours; do not add the digits after the decimal point as though they were minutes. Review entries and create a timesheet report
Use Spent Time Details to inspect individual entries
Spent Time Details lists matching individual time entries and running totals. You can filter and sort the entries, and the documented output options include Atom and CSV. Project-level entries appear without an issue association. Redmine time-tracking details
Use Spent Time Report to group hours
Spent Time Report aggregates entries by a selected dimension, such as issue or activity. Choose at least one grouping to populate the report; without a grouping, the page is blank. The report can be exported as CSV, and the project’s Time tracking module must be active. Redmine also describes simple reporting by user, issue type, category, or activity. Start with the built-in views if their filters and grouping dimensions meet your needs. Details answers “which entries make up this total?”; Report answers “how do hours group across the dimension I selected?”
Check permissions when time tracking is unavailable
If a user cannot log, view, or change time, check both the project’s enabled module and the user’s role. Redmine has separate permissions for:

A user allowed to log time is not necessarily allowed to see or edit other users’ entries. Ask a project administrator to review the role’s permissions and activity settings. Redmine roles and permissions
Automate entries with the Time Entries REST API
For integrations or scripted workflows, Redmine’s Time Entries REST API supports listing, creating, updating, and deleting time entries. To create an entry, provide an issue_id or a project_id, the hours value, and an activity_id unless a default activity exists. The API also documents spent date, comments (up to 255 characters), and user ID fields. A failed request returns validation errors that can help identify missing or invalid values. When a third-party tracker or plugin makes sense
Consider an extension only when Redmine’s built-in logging and reports do not fit the workflow. Third-party availability and compatibility can change, so confirm the current listing, supported Redmine release, and operating-system requirements for your instance before installing anything.

Redmine’s third-party tools directory lists Clockify as integrated with Redmine for tracking time from issues. It also describes the Redmineflux Time Tracker Desktop App as offering timers, idle-time detection, offline tracking, and synchronization, with listed compatibility from Redmine 5.0.x to 6.0.x. Cross-project timesheets
The Timesheet Plugin page describes filters for date, project, activity, and user; grouping by project, issue, or user; permissions; configurable precision; and CSV export. The page also says the original author no longer works on the plugin and points to a fork. Check the present maintenance status, compatibility, and support before relying on it.
