Start by identifying the iTunes job you want to replace
“iTunes alternative” can describe several different needs. Before choosing an app, decide which of these matters:

How do you move playlists between streaming services?
Playlist migration is a separate task from replacing iTunes. The Associated Press reported in 2025 that Tidal and Deezer pointed users toward TuneMyMusic, Amazon Music listed TuneMyMusic, SongShift, and Soundiiz, and Google advised third-party services for some YouTube Music transfers. Google also warned that a large playlist transfer could take several hours. These routes and service capabilities can change, so confirm the current source-and-destination pair with the platform and transfer service before starting. The AP report describes the guidance at that time.
- Check that the service supports both the platform you are leaving and the one you are joining.
- Review what account access or data the transfer requires, and decide whether you are comfortable granting it.
- Allow for a long transfer if your playlists are large, then check the destination library for items that did not carry over.
How to choose without losing an iTunes function you still use
- List the tasks you actually use. Separate streaming, local files, device management, transfers, podcasts, audiobooks, and video.
- Match each task to an app or service. Apple’s separate Windows apps cover distinct media roles; local-library tools and migration services solve different problems.
- Check the gaps. Verify current Windows requirements, regional availability, pricing, device support, and whether syncing or backup is included on the vendor’s official pages.
- Keep iTunes where it still serves a purpose. Apple’s guidance says it can remain relevant for audiobooks and podcasts when Apple Music or Apple TV are installed.
No single option in the available Windows comparison is established as a complete replacement for every iTunes function. In particular, playing music alone does not establish support for backup, device syncing, podcasts, audiobooks, or video.
