Verdict: The $29 TigerVPN Lite lifetime offer was a genuine 2015 promotion, but it is not available now and should not be purchased. TigerVPN permanently shut down its network on July 15, 2022, deleted the operational data needed to run accounts, and terminated the service.
Any surviving deal page, voucher, or checkout button is archival, stale, or potentially unrelated to the former provider. An old license is not reasonably expected to redeem or connect.
What the $29 offer actually was
TNW Deals reported the promotion on September 7, 2015, and TechSpot covered it on August 4, 2015. The offer sold a lifetime TigerVPN Lite subscription for $29, advertised as a 96% discount from an approximately $790 regular price. That $790 figure was deal-marketing language, not an independently established market price.
The original coverage described updates and apps for supported devices. The archived reseller listing preserves the practical conditions below.

Lite was not the full TigerVPN service
The Lite license was a constrained tier, not an unrestricted subscription. The reseller listing described the full service as having 61 available nodes, compared with 15 for Lite. Lite also allowed only one active connection, so installing the app on several devices did not let a household use them at the same time.

Promotional materials advertised 256-bit encryption, optimized servers and a zero-data-retention policy. These are claims made in the historical marketing, not independent proof that the service demonstrated those properties. A VPN changes the network path and can hide an IP address from websites; it does not make a user completely anonymous.
The decisive update: TigerVPN shut down
TigerVPN’s official notice at tigervpn.com says the service was permanently shut down on July 15, 2022. The company says its network and infrastructure were decommissioned, customer data and operational records were permanently deleted, and no remaining backups or copies were needed to operate customer accounts.
“Lifetime” therefore meant the lifetime of the service, not the lifetime of the purchaser, device or voucher. Once the provider ceased operating, the practical value of the license ended.

Can an old code or account still work?
There is no credible reason to expect redemption to work. The shutdown notice establishes that the service, authentication infrastructure and operating records were terminated. That conclusion does not require claiming that every individual code has been technically tested.
- An installed old app may fail at login or fail to find servers.
- A checkout page may deliver an expired code, a discontinued product key or nothing usable.
- Recent reviews or ratings on an archived page do not prove that the provider is operating.
Do not enter old credentials into unofficial replacement apps, and do not treat an installed client as evidence of an active VPN.
Why the old $29 page is still online
Deal publishers and resellers commonly retain pages for archives, search traffic, reviews and customer reference. A visible price, purchase button or checkout flow is not the same as a live network and support operation. The Boing Boing Store page still displays the historical offer while later purchaser reviews report that TigerVPN’s servers were turned off and the company folded.

Search may also show domains such as tiger-vpn.com or tigervpn.io. Do not assume either is the former TigerVPN. Unless a current operator documents corporate continuity, ownership, infrastructure and policies, treat such services as unverified or unrelated.
What to do if you recently paid
- Save the receipt, order confirmation, product page and seller details.
- Ask the merchant of record for a refund, explaining that the advertised service was terminated.
- If the seller refuses or does not respond, ask your card issuer or payment provider about its dispute process.
- Do not download unofficial replacement software using the TigerVPN name.
- Change any password that you reused with an old TigerVPN account.
Refund eligibility depends on the reseller, payment method and applicable deadlines; no refund is guaranteed.

| Provider | Current signals | Best fit | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mullvad | €5 per month including VAT; same flat rate for monthly or longer prepayment; up to five devices; 14-day guarantee except cash payments | People wanting a simple, transparent subscription instead of a lifetime promise | Not designed for very large streaming networks or more than five devices |
| Proton VPN | Free plan without a credit card; paid plans support up to 10 devices, servers in more than 140 countries, streaming, BitTorrent, NetShield and a 30-day guarantee | Users who want to try a free tier or need broad coverage | Uses subscriptions, not one-time lifetime payments; displayed prices can be promotional |
| Surfshark | Displayed promotion of $2.49/month for Starter, three extra months and $67.23 for 27 months before possible VAT; unlimited simultaneous devices | Households connecting many devices | Introductory and renewal pricing, bundles and taxes require checking at checkout |
| Toggle VPN | $11.99/month shown with a seven-day free period; up to 10 devices; 30-day money-back guarantee | A conventional monthly plan with clear multi-device support | Less suitable if you specifically want a mature, widely documented brand or lifetime payment |
Mullvad’s flat subscription model also illustrates why a sustainable VPN should not be judged by the word “lifetime”: a provider must continue funding servers, software and operations for that promise to have practical value.
Bottom line
The TigerVPN Lite $29 deal was real in 2015, but it is a dead promotion. TigerVPN’s July 15, 2022 shutdown means an old voucher, account or archived purchase page should not be treated as usable. Do not pay for it; select a currently operating VPN and verify its present terms instead.
