Three Landing Pages in 24 KB With Zero External Requests: What the Rule Costs

A seller reports that three self-contained landing-page templates total 24,490 bytes and contain no external URLs in source. What that rule costs in fonts, images, forms and analytics, and how to check it in a browser.

A landing page with zero external requests is achievable, and the seller of one set of three HTML templates reports that its files meet the rule. The price is that the page gives up hosted fonts, photography, built-in forms and analytics. The author’s byte counts and “zero matches” result come from a scan of the source text, not from a browser watching the page load, so the claim is narrower than the headline suggests.

What the author measured

The seller’s article, a post dated October 2 that appears to be from 2026, describes three self-contained files. Its figures are self-reported and have not been checked by an outside party.

File Page type Size (bytes)
saas-landing.html SaaS landing page 10,336
event-landing.html Event landing page 8,332
local-business-landing.html Local-business landing page 5,822
Total 24,490

The total is 24.49 kB in decimal units, or about 23.92 KiB. The “24 KB” in the headline is a rounding of that figure. The same article reports zero matches for its external-URL pattern across the three files.

What “zero matches” does and does not prove

The scan is useful, but it answers a narrower question than “does this page make no network requests?”

  • It reads source text. The pattern looks for HTTP(S) strings in selected src, href and url( positions. It counts text, not requests a browser actually sends.
  • It can miss requests. A script that builds a resource URL at runtime would not show up in the source as a matching string.
  • It can over-count. A link to an external checkout or calendar matches the pattern, but clicking a link does not fetch anything when the page loads.
  • It observed no browser behavior. Redirects, script-initiated requests and anything a hosting platform injects into the served HTML are outside what a source scan can see.

The author’s own comments point toward a cold-load network capture as the next check. Until that capture is published, the accurate wording is “the source contains no external URLs by the author’s pattern,” not “the page makes no external requests.”

What the rule costs

Each omission the author describes is a deliberate trade. The costs fall into five areas.

Typography

The templates use system font stacks, not hosted webfonts. The rendered face therefore depends on the reader’s operating system and browser, so a heading that looks deliberate on one platform may look generic on another. The layout uses fluid grid sizing and clamped headings, with a single 720-pixel media query on the SaaS page. The article reports no device or browser test results for these layouts.

Imagery

The files contain no <img> elements. The visual language is typography, rules and one accent color. A business whose sales depend on photography would have to add assets. Images hosted on the same domain as the page would keep the page free of external requests, though they would add bytes and requests of their own; images served from a third-party host would break the rule.

Lead capture

The files contain no <form> elements. Their buttons are anchors that point to a checkout or calendar page that you control or choose. An embedded form from an outside service adds an external request, and so does a form whose submit target is an outside domain.

Analytics

Without a tracking script, the files produce no page measurement. Adding analytics ends the literal zero-request claim even if the script loads after the page has rendered. If you need visit counts, you are choosing to accept that cost, not avoiding it.

Editing

The author recommends keeping colors and spacing in CSS custom properties and marking replaceable copy with bracketed tokens. That structure should make the templates easier to adapt, but the article does not report testing with other editors or content writers.

What the rule buys for performance, and what it does not

web.dev’s documentation defines Largest Contentful Paint this way: “The Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) metric reports the render time of the largest image or text block visible within the viewport, relative to when the page first started loading.” (web.dev, LCP documentation.)

web.dev’s optimization guidance also notes the extra connection cost when a resource comes from another origin. Removing those resources can therefore remove work the browser would otherwise do. That is a general principle, not a measured result for these templates.

The article reports no LCP, INP, CLS, conversion or real-user figures. A small byte count does not prove that a page loads faster or converts better. Hosting response time, HTML parsing, rendering and the reader’s device and connection all still apply when a page has no external requests.

How to verify a zero-request claim yourself

Use these steps to test any page, including your own copy of these templates, in a browser:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the page in Chrome or Edge, then press F12 (or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows and Linux, Cmd+Option+I on macOS) and select the Network tab.
  2. Check Disable cache and Preserve log.
  3. Reload the page with the panel open. Read the Domain or Remote Address column for every row. Anything not on your own host is an external request.
  4. Wait for the page to go idle, then click buttons, open menus and scroll. Scripts can fire requests after the initial load.
  5. Look for rows with 3xx status codes. A redirect to another domain is a request even if the original URL was local.
  6. Press Ctrl+Shift+M (or Cmd+Shift+M) to open the Device toolbar and repeat the test at a phone-sized viewport.
  7. Test the address your host actually serves, not the local file. Hosting platforms sometimes inject scripts into HTML.

A page that meets the rule should show one row for the HTML document and nothing else, with the exception of same-domain assets you have chosen to add.

Self-contained or hosted: how the options compare

Consideration Self-contained template (as described) Hosted fonts or images Embedded form or analytics
Portability One HTML file; the author says it can be uploaded anywhere Depends on the third-party host responding Depends on the vendor’s script or frame loading
Visual identity Typography, rules and an accent color; system fonts vary by platform Custom typefaces and photography Form or tracking styling set by the vendor
Lead capture Buttons link to an external checkout or calendar Not applicable Built-in form; adds an external request
Measurement None from the files Not applicable Page and conversion data
Verified loading behavior Source scan only; the article reports no browser capture Must be measured per request Must be measured per request

For an image-led brand or a business that needs embedded lead capture or analytics, the zero-request version is the wrong starting point. For a single-purpose page where the copy carries the offer, the trade may be worth making.

What is and is not established

The article describes the templates as a $9 digital download with three HTML files, and it quotes its own product line: “no framework and no build step; open the file, change the copy, upload it anywhere.” That is a product claim from the seller, not independent evidence.

The available evidence does not include independent browser tests, a named study, or conversion statistics for these three pages. No performance or conversion percentage should be inferred from the byte counts.

  • Established: the three file sizes and the total, as reported by the author.
  • Established as the author’s result: no matches for the external-URL pattern in the source.
  • Not established: the page’s runtime network behavior, its visual performance on real devices, or any effect on conversions.

Treat the zero-request property as something you verify on your own host with the steps above, not something the file size guarantees.
