Its lighthouse is not officially described as vampiric: that image comes from the game’s movement mechanic, in which each step slowly drains blood. The central challenge is finding your way through a lighthouse whose interior loops and defies ordinary directions.
What is This Is Not For You?
In this single-player adventure, protagonist Ulysses heads into an isolated lighthouse after a ship crashes nearby. Inside, the building behaves like a maze: it is larger within than it appears from outside, and a route north may return Ulysses to a room the player believed was south. Keys, statues, riddling characters and spaces that do not behave as expected turn exploration into a puzzle of orientation as well as survival. The Steam listing describes the game as a place to “make sense out of a dreamlike place.”

Why drawing a map matters
The official description encourages players to draw their own map to help find items and solve increasingly complex puzzles. This is a player strategy, not a claim that the game supplies a conventional in-game map. Because directions can loop or lead somewhere unexpected, notes can help track where a passage seemed to go, which rooms connect, and where a route brings Ulysses back.

The developer’s announcement emphasizes patience and reliance on notes while working through the maze. No finished map, walkthrough or confirmed puzzle solutions are available in the cited official material, so players should expect to chart discoveries themselves rather than follow a published route.

Exploration has a cost
Movement slowly drains blood, making every step a resource cost. That mechanic gives the maze more weight than a simple navigation puzzle: exploring a possible dead end and retracing a route both have consequences. The official description establishes the drain, but does not specify a rate or provide enough detail to describe a precise resource-management strategy.
House of Leaves is an influence, not the source story
The Steam description says the game is partially inspired by Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves, early text adventures and gothic fiction. Interactive Dreams also lists Silent Hill among the game’s influences. These are stated inspirations, not evidence that This Is Not For You adapts the novel or retells its story.

The connection to House of Leaves is most useful as a point of comparison in form: the game makes players navigate and record an unstable space, while Danielewski’s work is a novel. Readers curious about that influence can seek out the book itself; the official game material establishes the connection but does not establish a particular edition, retailer, price or availability.
Release plans and current listing details
As of October 2026, Steam lists This Is Not For You as not yet available and gives a planned release year of 2027, without a confirmed day or month. The current listing names Windows and macOS and lists English and Spanish interface and subtitle support. These are listing details, not guarantees that release timing, platforms or language support cannot change before launch.
