Steam’s store listing gives the more precise end time: October 12 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific. The announcement does not specify a time zone, so use the Steam listing for the cutoff in your region.

What can you play during the free weekend?
This is not a short demo or a trial restricted to a small part of the game. The official announcement says the free weekend includes the full Core Keeper experience and online multiplayer. Steam describes it as a mining sandbox adventure for 1–8 players.
Players explore an underground world, gather resources, craft equipment, build a base, and travel between biomes. The announcement highlights boss battles, farming, fishing, magic, and secrets as well as exploration and construction. It lists 9 biomes and 7 sub-biomes.

How to make the most of the free access with friends
Steam’s 1–8-player listing makes the weekend a chance to see whether your group enjoys the game’s shared exploration and crafting loop before paying for it. Agree on a world and a time to play, then try a mix of activities: explore for resources, bring materials back to build up your base, and decide together when to take on a boss. Farming and fishing offer other ways to spend a session if your group prefers a slower pace.
What happens to the game and save data when the event ends?
According to the official announcement, the game and save data remain in your Steam library after the free weekend, and you can pick up where you left off if you buy the game. Steamworks’ Free Weekends documentation explains the platform mechanics: the temporary free package is removed when the event ends, and continued play requires the full version. In practical terms, the event gives you time to try the game, not permanent access to it.

Should you buy Core Keeper before the offer ends?
If you and your group want to continue after October 12, check the Steam store page while the event is live. When checked for this article, Steam showed a 40% discount: $11.99, reduced from a listed $19.99, with the offer ending October 22, 2026. These are the displayed store values at that time; confirm the current price, regional terms, and sale availability on Steam before purchasing.
The decision is straightforward: use the free window to see whether your group likes the exploration, crafting, and base-building, then compare the remaining access time with the price shown for your region. Steam lists Pugstorm as developer and Fireshine Games and bilibili as publishers.
