It was a prototype demo, not a confirmed released game. In a report published on January 26, 2021, Futurism described Pixeloco as developing a phone-based augmented-reality shooter that placed digital combat in ordinary outdoor surroundings. The footage showed players collecting powerups and using real cars and buildings as cover; the reporting did not establish whether the project was later released, cancelled, renamed or continued.
What the prototype video showed
Futurism described the concept as a “world-scale” first-person shooter. In the promotional video, players ran around a city, collected pixelated powerups and shot at one another. Cars and buildings in the real environment served as cover, and the demo showed digital bullet impacts appearing on real-world objects.

That footage demonstrated the intended experience, but the report characterized it as a prototype demo and said details were scarce. It does not establish a finished game, a public test or a commercially available release.
How the phone-based setup was described
Players mounted phones on gun-shaped controllers built by Arkade Games. The report attributed the AR environment to crowdsourced digital mapping technology from Immersal. It did not name a controller model or independently test the combination, and it does not establish that the hardware remains available to buy.

Immersal’s official news page describes its AR game arcade solution along with spatial-mapping and visual-positioning technology. That gives context for the type of infrastructure associated with the demo; it does not confirm that Pixeloco still uses Immersal or that this particular shooter progressed beyond the 2021 prototype.
Why playing in public raised concerns
Futurism questioned whether passersby would recognize the brightly colored plastic controllers as props. If they did not, people playing an open-world shooter in a public area could appear to be acting aggressively. The reporter said this made the open-world style in the video seem unrealistic.

This was a concern raised by the article, not a report of an injury or incident and not a formal safety assessment. The footage and reporting do not establish what safeguards, play-area rules or bystander warnings—if any—were part of the project.

Was the game ever released?
The available reporting does not establish a later release, cancellation, rename or continuation. The 2021 article documents Pixeloco’s development claim and a prototype demo; Immersal’s company materials describe broader AR technology, not the game’s subsequent history. The concept is therefore best understood as a reported prototype whose later status remains unconfirmed, rather than a game known to have shipped.
