For Android users who want a keyboard with fewer network dependencies, local voice input, or more control over clipboard and language features, four credible alternatives are HeliBoard, FUTO Keyboard, FlorisBoard, and AnySoftKeyboard. Their documented strengths differ: HeliBoard’s F-Droid listing says it works offline without internet permission; FUTO advertises offline voice input and swipe typing; FlorisBoard focuses on customization and clipboard tools; and AnySoftKeyboard offers language packages and an incognito mode. Those are feature and project claims, not proof that any keyboard is independently audited or more accurate than Gboard.
How these keyboards differ from Gboard
There is no single winner for every user. The useful comparison is what each project documents about network access, local data, typing features, languages, Android compatibility, and maturity. “Privacy-friendly” also does not mean a keyboard cannot see text: an input method must interact with the focused field to enter and edit what you type.

|---|---|---|---|
| HeliBoard | Offline operation, dictionaries, multilingual typing, themes and layout customization, clipboard history, one-handed and split layouts. | Its glide-typing feature requires a closed-source library that is not bundled with the app. | Offline use and configurability. |
| FUTO Keyboard | Offline voice input, swipe typing, autocorrect, predictive text and themes; downloads are offered through Google Play, its F-Droid repository and GitHub. | The project says it is under active development and may lack features or languages. | Swipe typing plus offline voice input, with room for development. |
| FlorisBoard | Latin layouts, some non-Latin support, themes, gestures, emoji, clipboard and cursor toolbar, and clipboard history. | F-Droid labels it beta; Android 8.0 or newer is required. | Customization and clipboard workflow. |

HeliBoard: the clearest documented offline choice
HeliBoard’s F-Droid listing says it does not use the internet permission and is “100% offline.” That is a specific statement about the app’s documented permission and operation, not an independent privacy audit. The listing also identifies version 4.1, added August 31, 2026, and says it requires Android 5.0 or newer.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Its feature set includes dictionaries, multilingual typing, themes and layout customization, clipboard history, and one-handed or split layouts. The trade-off for swipe-style glide typing is material: HeliBoard needs a separate closed-source library for it, and that library is not included in the app package. Check the listing and project instructions if glide typing is essential to your setup.

- For Tablets & Large Screens: Enhanced layout with larger keys and additional shortcuts, tailor-made for comfortable typing on iPads, Android tablets, and foldable phones (Android/iOS/Windows compatible).
- Productivity Boosters: Orange Keys + 7-Color Backlight: Color-coded orange keys for easy navigation. Enjoy customizable seven-color backlight illumination for day or night typing.
- Seamless Dual-Device Switching: Type on two different devices? Switch instantly between them with Fn + "1" or "2".
- 7-Color Illuminated Typing: Experience the new seven-color adjustable backlight, combined with high-contrast orange navigation keys, for effortless typing in any environment. NOTE: The backlit illuminates the perimeter and the gaps around the keys, creating an ambient glow, but letters/symbols on the keycaps themselves are not translucent and do not light up.
The listing also names contact-reading, user-dictionary and vibration-related permissions. A permission declaration alone does not establish that contact data is uploaded; the listing’s separate no-internet-permission claim is the relevant documented network detail.
FUTO Keyboard: swipe and offline voice input
FUTO Keyboard advertises swipe typing, offline voice input, autocorrect, predictive text and themes. For someone who wants to speak text without relying on online voice recognition, offline voice input is its most distinctive documented feature in this group.
FUTO’s own site warns that the keyboard is under active development and may be missing features or languages. That matters if you depend on a particular language, specialized input method, or polished feature set: verify the current build’s support before switching. The site offers routes through Google Play, the project’s F-Droid repository and GitHub.

FlorisBoard combines layout and theme options with gestures, emoji, a clipboard and cursor toolbar, and clipboard history. Its F-Droid listing describes broad Latin-layout support and more limited Arabic, Persian and Hebrew support. The listing labels the project beta; version 0.5.2 was added November 29, 2025, and Android 8.0 or newer is required.

What its privacy policy says the keyboard can access
FlorisBoard’s privacy policy, modified March 2, 2026, explains that when the keyboard is the active default input method and a text field is focused, it can access the full text in that field and the system clipboard. The policy says it temporarily monitors a small window around the cursor in memory. This access is part of providing keyboard functions; it is not by itself evidence that text is sent over a network.
What it may store locally
The policy says suggestions, spell checking and glide typing can learn from typing and save results locally, including personalized dictionaries. Clipboard history stores clipboard items in a local database when enabled. FlorisBoard says persisted personal data does not leave the device. That is the project’s own description of its policy, not independent verification of every app build.

It says more than 50 languages are supported through external packages, so you may need to install a separate package for the language you use. The site also displays “0 Data Collected”; treat that as a project statement rather than independently verified evidence.

Choose by the feature you actually need
- Prioritize documented offline operation: Start with HeliBoard’s F-Droid listing and its no-internet-permission statement.
- Need voice typing without an online service: Consider FUTO, while checking whether its current development state covers your languages and must-have features.
- Want clipboard tools and deep customization: FlorisBoard documents both, but its beta label and Android 8.0 minimum are relevant compatibility checks.
- Need many language options: Check AnySoftKeyboard’s external packages, or FlorisBoard’s stated layout coverage if its supported scripts meet your needs.
- Rely on glide or swipe typing: Compare the exact implementation and dependencies. HeliBoard’s glide feature needs a separate closed-source library; FUTO advertises swipe typing; FlorisBoard lists gestures; AnySoftKeyboard lists gesture typing.
Before switching, check Android compatibility, language and dictionary availability, and the project’s current installation instructions. A privacy claim, an offline feature, and a keyboard’s ability to process text are separate questions. None of the cited project pages establishes comparative typing accuracy, and they do not amount to an independent audit of these apps.
