Gemini can hand part of a request to four Google and YouTube apps: Google Maps, Google Keep, Google Sheets, and YouTube Music. Through Gemini’s Connected Apps feature, it can look up information in these apps or take an action in them, with your permission where that applies. What you can actually use depends on your account, region, device, and the Gemini app you are using, so treat the workflows below as examples to test in your own settings rather than a guarantee.
What Connected Apps does
Connected Apps lets Gemini work with other apps to finish a request instead of only answering from its own knowledge. Google’s Gemini Apps Help page puts it this way: “Gemini Apps can connect to other apps to complete your request and give you more helpful responses.” In practice that means two kinds of work. In a lookup, Gemini reads information from an app, such as a list of places. In an action, Gemini changes something in an app, such as creating a note or starting a playlist.

On the web, you can type @ in the prompt box and choose an app from the list. Gemini may connect that app straight away or ask for your permission first. Google’s “Use & manage Connected Apps in Gemini” help page explains how to see which apps are available and which actions each one supports.

The four workflows
The examples below come from a How-To Geek walkthrough, syndicated by Yahoo Tech on September 16, 2026. They describe the author’s own use. They are not benchmarked results, and nothing in them measures how much time was saved or how accurate the answers were.
#1 Best Overall
- Alexa can show you more - Echo Show 5 includes a 5.5” display so you can see news and weather at a glance, make video calls, view compatible cameras, stream music and shows, and more.
- Small size, bigger sound – Stream your favorite music, shows, podcasts, and more from providers like Amazon Music, Spotify, and Prime Video—now with deeper bass and clearer vocals. Includes a 5.5" display so you can view shows, song titles, and more at a glance.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart devices like lights and thermostats, even while you're away.
- See more with the built-in camera – Check in on your family, pets, and more using the built-in camera. Drop in on your home when you're out or view the front door from your Echo Show 5 with compatible video doorbells.
- See your photos on display – When not in use, set the background to a rotating slideshow of your favorite photos. Invite family and friends to share photos to your Echo Show. Prime members also get unlimited cloud photo storage.
Google Maps: building a day out
The walkthrough asks Gemini to plan a Saturday outing in Ahmedabad with a breakfast spot, an activity, and a dinner place nearby, and to choose highly rated places. The point is that one request covers three stops and their location, rather than separate searches for each. Because this is a lookup, Gemini needs to return places you can check, so confirm the opening hours and the route yourself before you leave.
Google Keep: saving recommendations to a named note
The second example asks Gemini to save restaurant recommendations to a new note called “Saturday outing.” The walkthrough’s prompt starts with @Google Keep, which is the app-mention pattern described above. The same example also finds a shared grocery note. Treat the exact wording as the author’s example, not a fixed command. If Gemini asks for permission before writing to Keep, that is the intended check; read the request before approving it.

Google Sheets: formulas, totals, and charts
The walkthrough uses Sheets for three tasks: help with a formula, a total, and a bar chart, plus finding the largest value in a column. This is a good fit for Connected Apps because the request names a specific spreadsheet and a specific range of work. Before you rely on a formula or total, check it against a few rows you can verify by hand.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYouTube Music: mood, playlist, or a specific song
For music, the walkthrough asks Gemini to find songs for a mood or activity, to create a playlist, or to play a particular track. This is the clearest case of an action with an immediate effect: the result is audible. Gemini’s music control depends on YouTube Music being available for your account and region, so if the playlist does not appear or the song does not start, check the app’s availability first.

Availability: what is and is not established
Support is not the same for every app or every setup. Google’s live availability table, “Check the availability & requirements of Connected Apps in Gemini Apps” (accessed October 7, 2026), lists the requirements for each integration. The table below summarises what that source does and does not establish for the four apps.
| App | Status in Google’s documentation (as of October 7, 2026) | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps | Not stated in the availability table reviewed; the walkthrough shows it working for the author | Whether Maps appears in your Connected Apps list |
| Google Keep | Listed under Google Workspace | Your account type and whether a work or school account applies |
| Google Sheets | Listed under Google Workspace | Your account type and whether a work or school account applies |
| YouTube Music | Listed in the availability table | Your region, device, and the requirements shown for this integration |
Google’s general Connected Apps page also says availability varies by location, language, device, and Gemini app, and that a work or school account may follow different steps from a personal account. That is why no single country or account setup should be treated as universal.
How to set up and test the workflows
- Open the Gemini app or gemini.google.com and sign in with the account you want to use.
- Open Gemini’s settings and find Connected Apps. Check which apps are listed as available and which actions each one supports.
- Turn on the app you need, and accept any permission prompt. If you decline it, Gemini cannot use that app.
- On the web, type
@in the prompt box and choose the app, then write your request. - Read the proposed action before approving it, especially when Gemini will write to a note, a spreadsheet, or a playlist.
- Verify the result in the app itself. Confirm the note was saved, the formula gives the right total, and the playlist is correct.
Web and Android are different
Connected Apps and Android phone control are separate features. Google’s “Control your Android mobile device & apps with Device assistance” help page describes Android-only functions such as managing alarms, opening apps, and controlling media. These are optional phone functions. They do not make an Android phone necessary for the four workflows above, which work through Connected Apps.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →When a workflow fails
- The app does not appear in the list. Check your region, language, device, and Gemini app against the availability table, then check whether you are using a work or school account.
- Gemini asks for permission and you declined. Turn the app on in Connected Apps and repeat the request.
- The action is not supported. Some actions are listed as unsupported for a given app. Use the app directly for that step.
- The result is wrong. Check the place, formula, or song in the source app. Connected Apps reduces handoffs but does not replace checking the output.
The honest summary is that these four workflows show Gemini moving between apps for planning, saving, spreadsheet help, and music. Whether that feels like a real assistant depends on whether your own account and setup support the same actions.
