For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, choose requirements by the resolution and rendering features you intend to use: ordinary play starts at 1080p Low, while 4K Path Tracing is a separate high-end target calling for an RTX 5080 and frame generation. The table below is PC Gamer’s September 29, 2026 transcription of CD PROJEKT RED’s current requirements; the FPS figures are developer QA targets, not guaranteed results for every system or scene.

How to choose the right tier
For standard play at 1080p
The Minimum row is a 1080p Low target of 30 FPS; the Recommended row is 1080p High at 60 FPS. These describe different performance goals, not a universal pass/fail line for launching the game. CD PROJEKT RED specifically says its selected minimum NVIDIA card, the GTX 1660, can reach 60 FPS or higher at Minimum settings. That statement is about that GPU and preset, not a guarantee for every minimum-tier configuration.
For higher-resolution rasterized play
The Ultra row targets 1440p Ultra at 60 FPS. Moving from 1080p to 1440p or 2160p increases the rendering workload, so compare hardware against the target resolution rather than relying on a GPU name alone.

For ray tracing or Path Tracing
RT Minimum targets 1080p at 30 FPS; RT Recommended targets 1440p at 60 FPS with RT: Ultra. The Path Tracing row is substantially more demanding: it targets 2160p at 60 FPS with DLSS and frame generation, and names an RTX 5080 with 16 GB VRAM. That card is not a requirement for ordinary play.
What the FPS targets do—and do not—mean
CD PROJEKT RED describes the figures as targets from its QA testing. Actual performance depends on the scene, resolution, settings and system configuration, so a listed CPU and GPU do not promise a fixed frame rate in every area of the game.

The studio says the RT and Path Tracing configurations were measured with DLSS, FSR or XeSS set to Auto; the Path Tracing target also used frame generation. Other listed configurations were measured at native resolution with upscaling turned off. The shorthand in the table should not be read to mean every upscaler works with every GPU: the report lists specific GPU and upscaling combinations, including XeSS for the Arc B580 in the Ultra row.
Operating system, SSD and hardware support
- Storage: An SSD is required in the current requirements. CD PROJEKT RED says it supports faster loading, smoother asset streaming and overall performance. The retrieved requirements do not state a storage capacity, SSD interface or particular model.
- Windows: CD PROJEKT RED says it no longer officially supports Windows 10, following Microsoft and NVIDIA ending support for the operating system. The game may still run on Windows 10 after the next update, but the studio says it no longer develops or tests on Windows 10 and cannot guarantee compatibility or performance.
- Component support: The studio says it supports components that continue to receive official manufacturer updates. Its explanation for selecting the Turing-based GTX 1660 as its minimum NVIDIA card is that Game Ready driver support for Maxwell, Pascal and Volta had ended.
Settings and checks for more stable performance
Start with the goal you can sustain
Use the matching tier as a starting point: resolution, preset and rendering features all matter. If performance is unstable in the scenes you play, lower the graphics target or choose a less demanding setting combination, then check the same scene again. The official requirements do not establish modern per-setting benchmark results for Remastered, so no particular preset change can be promised to fix every system.

Change one setting at a time
- Set the display resolution and rendering mode you actually plan to use, including whether RT or Path Tracing is enabled.
- Check performance in a repeatable in-game scene and note whether the problem is low frame rate or inconsistent delivery.
- Reduce the target or adjust a graphics setting, then revisit that scene before changing another option. This makes it easier to identify which change helped on your system.
- For RT or Path Tracing, account for the upscaling and, for the Path Tracing target, frame-generation assumptions in the requirements rather than comparing those figures with native-resolution rasterized targets.
Check the dated HairWorks advice
On September 30, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED advised players to disable NVIDIA HairWorks temporarily because an issue could significantly affect performance. GamesRadar+ reproduced the studio’s statement: “We recommend disabling that setting until this is addressed in a patch.” This is dated troubleshooting advice, not evidence that HairWorks is the cause of every stutter or low-FPS problem; check the game’s current patch status before relying on it. GamesRadar+’s September 30 report gives the context.
NVIDIA’s graphics and tweaking guide dates to May 2015. It can help identify settings such as HairWorks, ambient occlusion, foliage range, grass density, shadows, textures and water, but it is not a source for current Remastered per-setting performance measurements. CD PROJEKT RED announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered became available September 29, 2026. The studio’s release announcement identifies the current edition.

Comparing a PC or GPU upgrade
Compare candidates against the same intended use, not against a single headline GPU ranking. Match the resolution, FPS goal, preset, RT or Path Tracing mode, upscaling and frame-generation assumptions, and VRAM. Also account for your existing CPU and the SSD requirement. The RTX 5080’s place in the table is specifically the 2160p Path Tracing target with DLSS and frame generation; it is not the entry point for standard 1080p or 1440p play.
