The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is the current edition to look for when buying new: its Complete Edition includes the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine. If you already own the game, check your platform account before paying again. CD PROJEKT RED says qualifying owners receive the Remastered update at no extra charge, and its current FAQ says base-game owners can get both expansions through the stated update path.
Which Witcher 3 edition should you buy?
For a new purchase, choose the current platform-specific listing for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, also described as the Complete Edition. Confirm the platform, edition generation, and format on the listing; the word “Complete” alone does not establish that an older physical copy is the 2026 Remastered release.

If you already own the base game, first check whether your platform or store account grants the update and expansions. The purchase decision depends more on whether you are a new buyer or an existing owner than on the edition label.

What does the Complete Edition include?
The current publisher page describes Remastered as including the base game and both major story expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. CD PROJEKT RED says the digital Base Game listing has been replaced by the Complete Edition, with the expansions merged into it; its FAQ says, “From now, only the Complete Edition will be available.” CD PROJEKT RED’s current game page is the reference for the current product description.

The publisher also lists visual and gameplay changes for Remastered, including improved environment, NPC, and monster textures; foliage and lighting changes; revised combat animations and camera; an overhauled skill tree; cross-platform mod support; transmogrification; and expanded photo mode. These are publisher-described features, not independently measured performance results.
Do existing owners get the expansions or a free upgrade?
CD PROJEKT RED’s August 25, 2026 announcement says Remastered launched September 29, 2026, with free upgrades for owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It separately describes pre-purchase availability on Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2, and says Switch owners can claim the Switch 2 edition when it releases. These are distinct platform routes, not a universal claim process; check the entitlement shown by your own store or platform account. The publisher’s announcement gives the named platforms and release details.

The publisher’s expansion exchange page says that, since August 25, 2026, both expansions are available at no extra cost to base-game owners who install the free Remastered update. It also says unused expansion codes no longer need to be registered or exchanged. On PS4 and Xbox One, the current FAQ says owners can download the expansions for free; the publisher says previous-generation console storefronts otherwise remain unchanged. Check the specific store account and update path before assuming access on another edition or platform. The official expansion exchange page describes the base-game entitlement.
Upgrading does not mean cross-buy
CD PROJEKT RED says existing expansion ownership remains in the player’s library, with expansion content patched into the Base Game and still startable separately from the main menu. Its FAQ says saves remain compatible, cross-progression continues to work, and expansion achievements and trophies are unaffected. Cross-progression concerns saves; it does not establish that buying the game on one platform grants a license on another. The publisher FAQ covers saves and progression.

How to check a listing before you buy
- Match the platform. Confirm whether the listing is for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or Switch 2. Similar titles across platforms do not establish shared ownership.
- Identify the edition generation. Distinguish the 2026 Remastered release from the 2022 Complete Edition and the earlier-generation game. Check product details, not just the retailer title.
- Confirm the format. Verify whether you are buying digital or physical. The publisher documented a physical Complete Edition following the 2022 digital release, but that does not establish current physical availability for the 2026 Remastered SKU. The 2022 announcement records that earlier release path.
- Check both expansions. Make sure the listing includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, or confirm that your existing base-game entitlement grants them through the applicable update.
- For an existing copy, check your account first. Look for the Remastered update or the expansion entitlements in the same store or platform account. The publisher’s named upgrade routes differ, so do not infer eligibility from a different platform’s offer.
Is the 2026 Remastered version the same as the 2022 Complete Edition?
No: the names refer to different release contexts. The publisher’s 2022 announcement described the Complete Edition alongside that year’s next-generation update, enhancements, free DLC, and the two story expansions. Its 2026 announcement identifies The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered as a later release. An older Complete Edition disc may be a valid way to own the earlier version, but the evidence does not establish that it is the same product as the 2026 Remastered listing or that its contents are all on-disc.
The 2022 version 4.0 notes described console modes targeting 30 FPS for ray tracing or 60 FPS for performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X; Xbox Series S had no ray tracing and listed the same target frame rates for its quality and performance modes. The notes also described PC features including DLSS 3 on compatible hardware. These are dated 2022 publisher specifications, not current Remastered benchmarks or guarantees. The 2022 update notes also cautioned that update scope varied by platform.

Is The Witcher 3 Complete Edition worth buying?
For someone who has never bought the game, the current Complete Edition is the straightforward choice if they want the full story experience: it combines the base game with both major expansions. If you already own the base game, buying another copy may be unnecessary; first verify whether your account qualifies for the free update and expansion access. For a physical purchase, make the decision only after confirming the exact generation and included content on that specific listing.
