The labels “Remastered” and “Enhanced” do not mean the releases are equivalent. One is described as a wide-ranging technical and gameplay modernization; the other is an update to the existing game with substantial narrative, localization and progression changes.

What The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered changes
A broad modernization of the existing game
CD PROJEKT RED announced Remastered for September 29, 2026, describing improvements to visuals and performance, combat, the skill system and animations, plus cross-platform mod support. These are the publisher’s stated feature goals, not independent measurements of image quality or frame rate. The release announcement lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; the publisher separately announced a native Nintendo Switch 2 version.

For Switch 2, CD PROJEKT RED says the version uses the system’s capabilities to improve performance and visual fidelity alongside the wider Remastered changes. Why the project expanded
CD PROJEKT RED says the modernization grew out of work on the new Songs of the Past expansion: while developing it, the team saw a need to upgrade elements of the base game. This explains the publisher’s stated development rationale, but does not by itself establish how well the changes work in play.
What Crimson Desert Enhanced changes
Story, quests and progression
Pearl Abyss says Crimson Desert Enhanced became available on August 25, 2026, as a free update for existing owners on supported platforms. Its version 2.00.00 notes describe revisions to the main story and quests, changes to skill learning including the addition of Abyss Link, and eight new skills for Kliff that require story progression.
More voice and text language options
The update adds German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese voice-over, along with Arabic subtitles and interface text. Pearl Abyss also says the update includes post-launch updates released up to that point. The Enhanced update notice and version 2.00.00 notes describe the scope.

The official game page describes Crimson Desert as an open-world action-adventure on the continent of Pywel, following Kliff and the Greymanes. It lists Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s editions; edition contents and availability can vary by purchase path, so check the local listing before choosing one.
Do existing owners need to buy anything?
Neither publisher presents its update as a required second base-game purchase for eligible existing owners. If you already own one of the games, start by checking the update and entitlement for your exact platform and account, then update the existing installation. Platform eligibility and store presentation can differ, so do not assume that owning one edition on one system automatically grants access on another.
- Open the game’s store page or your library on the platform where you own it.
- Check that the Remastered or Enhanced update is available for that version and account.
- Install the update through the platform’s normal update process; confirm the edition and included content shown in that platform’s listing.
Which game should a new buyer choose?
Choose based on the game you want to play and the platform you own, not on which update label sounds more impressive. The official descriptions establish intended features and purchase options, but do not establish a winner for performance, polish or enjoyment.

- Consider The Witcher 3 if you want to return to Geralt’s RPG and are interested in the publisher’s broad changes to presentation, combat, progression, animation and mod support.
- Consider Crimson Desert if you want its action-adventure setting and value the revised story and quests, additional voice and text support, skills and accumulated post-launch updates.
- Check platform and edition first. The Witcher announcements cover PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Switch 2 announced separately. Pearl Abyss lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Mac and Epic Games Store. Compare current local listings for availability, edition contents and price; the update descriptions alone do not determine value.
Keep the separate Crimson Desert DLC distinct
Crimson Desert Enhanced is the available base-game update; it is not the same release as Charting the Unknown. In a September 30, 2026 notice, Pearl Abyss moved that separate DLC’s release back two weeks and gave October 29, 2026 (UTC) as its revised date. That date is a future schedule announced by the publisher, not confirmation that the DLC is already available. Check the DLC announcement for any later change.

What the official feature descriptions can—and cannot—tell you
The announcements and patch notes describe intended changes, availability and update contents. They do not provide a controlled comparison of frame rates, image quality, loading times, bug rates or player satisfaction between the games. On this evidence, it is fair to compare the updates’ stated priorities, but not to claim that either game is technically superior, more polished or more enjoyable.
