“Moto Power 5G” usually means Motorola’s moto g power 5G (2023 or 2024). Check Settings > About phone before following a guide: the separate moto g power (2025) omits “5G,” runs Android 15 and has different hardware. The 2024 model runs Android 14 and includes a 5,000mAh battery, 30W wired-charging capability, 15W wireless charging and a 120Hz display; features can vary by market and carrier. See Motorola’s 2023 guide, 2024 specifications and 2025 specifications.

Start with reversible fixes, then isolate whether the cause is an app, network, accessory, software corruption or physical damage. Menu names may differ with Android, carrier software and model.

Try these low-risk fixes first

  1. Restart the phone.
  2. Install Android, Google Play system, app and carrier updates.
  3. Remove a recently installed or suspicious app.
  4. Test in Safe Mode.
  5. Review storage and battery usage.
  6. Reset only the affected connection or setting.
  7. Back up your data before any factory reset.
  8. Use Motorola Device Help, Hardware Test, Software Fix or repair support if the fault remains.

Force-restart a frozen phone

Hold the Power button for 10–20 seconds. Motorola recommends at least 5% charge; if the battery may be empty, charge for 15 minutes first. A force reboot should not erase personal data. See Motorola’s force-restart instructions.

Battery drains quickly, charges slowly or will not charge

Fast drain

Bright screens, 120Hz refresh, weak 5G signals, GPS, hotspot use, gaming, video, Bluetooth, syncing, setup/restoration and background apps can all increase consumption. Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage, identify the largest users and restrict background activity where appropriate. Reduce brightness and screen timeout, disable unused radios or syncing, and test Battery Saver or temporarily disabling 5G.

  • Unlocked: Compatible with all major U.S. carriers, including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and other major carriers.
  • Super-bright 6.8" display + Bass Boost. Enjoy boundless entertainment on a massive, 120Hz display and stereo speakers with 1.7x more powerful bass***.
  • Long-lasting battery + TurboPower charging. Go over a day on a single charge with a 5000mAh battery and blazing-fast charging—even charge wirelessly.*
  • 50MP** camera system with OIS. Capture sharper low-light photos and smoother videos with an unshakable camera system featuring Optical Image Stabilization.
  • Stylish yet durable design. Enjoy the premium look and feel of vegan leather with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and underwater protection.

To isolate an app, restart in Safe Mode. If drain stops, remove recent apps one at a time. Motorola’s battery guidance also documents Adaptive Battery and the Device Help test: Device Help > Learn about my device > Hardware test > Battery (battery guidance). No fixed runtime is a valid benchmark because signal, temperature, settings and usage dominate.

Slow or failed charging

  1. Try another wall outlet.
  2. Inspect the cable, charger and USB-C port.
  3. Carefully remove lint with a non-metal tool; never probe the port with metal.
  4. Test a known-good compatible USB-C Power Delivery charger and cable.
  5. Let a hot phone cool, restart it and test again.
  6. Compare wired and wireless charging if you own the 2024 model.
  7. Run Motorola’s Hardware Test and seek service if the port is loose, corroded or works only at an angle.

The 2024 phone is rated for 30W wired charging, although some carrier packages include 10W or 20W chargers, and lists 15W wireless charging. Motorola recommends a 30W-or-higher USB-C PD charger and PD cable for fastest wired charging (specifications). A higher-wattage charger cannot repair a damaged port or guarantee that speed.

Heat while charging

Gaming, navigation, hotspot use, fast or wireless charging, large downloads and weak signals can make the phone warm. Stop demanding tasks, remove a thick case, keep it out of sunlight and do not use it while charging. Let it cool naturally—never place it in a refrigerator or freezer. Stop using the phone and contact Motorola if it is too hot to touch, swells, smells unusual or heats while idle. Do not remove the internal battery yourself; Motorola warns that battery removal can cause burns, injury or damage.

Slow performance, freezing, restarts or crashing apps

  1. Restart and install system, Google Play and app updates.
  2. Open Settings > Storage and free space by deleting large downloads, duplicate media and unused apps.
  3. For one failing app, force-stop it and clear its cache.
  4. Use Safe Mode.
  5. Uninstall recent cleaners, launchers, antivirus tools, VPNs, battery managers or accessibility utilities if the fault disappears in Safe Mode.
  6. Back up data before considering a factory reset.

Use Safe Mode as an evidence test

  1. Press and hold Power + Volume Up.
  2. Press and hold Power off.
  3. Tap OK to restart in Safe Mode.
  4. Use the phone briefly. If the problem disappears, a downloaded app is the likely cause.
  5. Restart normally and remove recent apps individually.

Procedure details are in Motorola’s Safe Mode guide. Slowness alone does not prove a defective processor; storage pressure, thermal throttling, restoration or an update can look similar.

  • Tons of built-in ultrafast storage. Enjoy plenty of room for photos, movies, songs, and apps—and add up to 1TB with a microSD card.

Phone will not turn on or the screen is stuck

  1. Connect a known-good charger for at least 15 minutes if the battery may be depleted.
  2. Hold Power for 10–20 seconds.
  3. If needed, try Power + Volume Up for restart or power options.
  4. Remove accessories and inspect the port.
  5. If it vibrates, rings or is detected while the display remains black, suspect the screen or display path.

If it remains unresponsive, use Motorola’s Troubleshooter or repair service.

Wi-Fi will not connect or keeps dropping

  1. Toggle Wi-Fi and restart the phone.
  2. Check whether another device connects to the router.
  3. Unplug the router for about 30 seconds, reconnect it and test again.
  4. Forget the network and reconnect; try both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
  5. Temporarily disable a VPN or private DNS.
  6. Reset connections at Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi.

Motorola documents this path in its Wi-Fi guidance. A network reset removes saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings, but not photos, apps or other phone data.

5G, mobile data, calls or texts fail

Separate a phone fault from carrier conditions:

  • No signal everywhere suggests SIM, account, coverage, provisioning or hardware trouble.
  • No signal only in one place usually indicates coverage or congestion.
  • Calls without data can indicate APN, plan or network-mode issues.
  • Data without calls can involve VoLTE or carrier compatibility.
  • LTE without 5G can be normal where coverage, plan, SIM provisioning or supported bands do not align.
  1. Turn Airplane mode on for about 30 seconds, then off.
  2. Restart, confirm mobile data and the intended SIM are enabled, and check the account or data allowance.
  3. Reseat a physical SIM and test outdoors or elsewhere.
  4. Check Motorola’s 2024 carrier-compatibility list.
  5. Reset network settings, then ask the carrier to check APN, VoLTE, eSIM, 5G provisioning and account status.
  6. Contact Motorola if the phone fails with a known-good compatible SIM.

Carrier support for bands, standalone 5G, Wi-Fi Calling, eSIM and other features varies by model, market and plan; network compatibility does not guarantee every carrier feature.

Bluetooth and hotspot problems

Bluetooth

  1. Toggle Bluetooth and restart both devices.
  2. Charge the accessory and remove it from other nearby devices.
  3. Forget it on the phone and pair again.
  4. Test a second accessory and reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi if necessary.

Hotspot

Confirm mobile data and tethering are allowed by the plan, Battery Saver is not restricting hotspot, the password and band are correct, signal is adequate and the phone is not overheating. Motorola says Maximum Battery Saver turns off hotspot and tethering (Battery Saver details).

Fingerprint, camera, audio and port faults

Fingerprint reader

The 2024 reader is integrated into the power button. Clean and dry the sensor and finger, remove lotion or gloves, re-register from several angles, add another finger, check that a case is not obstructing the button and restart. Use a PIN temporarily. Damage, liquid exposure or a failing power button requires service.

Camera

Clean the lenses, remove an overlapping case or protector, restart, update Camera and Android, clear the Camera cache and test in Safe Mode. Check whether one lens or mode alone fails. The 2024 model’s 50MP stabilized main camera and 8MP ultrawide/macro camera have different focus and low-light behavior; softness, digital-zoom artifacts or macro limitations are not automatically defects. Persistent blur, artifacts or failure after impact or liquid exposure warrants repair.

Speaker, microphone and headphone jack

Use safe, dry cleaning only; disconnect Bluetooth, check media/call/notification volumes, test wired and Bluetooth headphones, record a voice memo and place a call. The 2024 model has stereo speakers, two microphones, a 3.5mm jack and USB-C. A fault across apps, especially after liquid or impact, needs service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Screen, buttons and USB-C

Intermittent buttons, a black display with sound or vibration, a loose port, corrosion or charging only at an angle indicate physical repair rather than another settings change. The 2024 specification describes the design as water-repellent, not waterproof.

Storage and update problems

Open Settings > Storage. Delete large downloads, duplicate media, unused apps and app-specific trash; move compatible media to cloud storage or a microSD card. The 2024 model has 128GB internal storage and microSD support, but apps and DRM may limit what can move. Avoid “RAM booster” or cleaner apps.

For updates, use Settings > System > System updates. For Google Play system updates, use Settings > About phone > Android version > Google Play system update (Motorola update guidance). If an over-the-air update fails, Motorola’s support hub offers computer-based Software Fix options (2024 support hub); availability varies by country, carrier and model.

Reset, Software Fix or repair?

Network reset

Use Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi for connection faults. Re-enter Wi-Fi passwords and re-pair accessories afterward.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Factory reset

Only after updates, app removal, Safe Mode, storage cleanup and targeted resets fail, back up everything and confirm the Google account credentials. The path is Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). This erases downloaded apps and user data; Factory Reset Protection may require the previously associated Google account. Reinstall apps selectively rather than restoring a suspected problem app immediately (reset instructions).

Escalate

  • Fix it yourself: Safe Mode isolates an app, or a restart, setting change or network reset resolves the symptom.
  • Contact the carrier: account, SIM, APN, VoLTE, eSIM, 5G provisioning, coverage or tethering is involved.
  • Contact Motorola: power-on failure after charging and force reboot, damaged port, failed display/button/camera/sensor/audio, idle overheating, swelling, liquid or impact damage, or failure after a clean reset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Moto G Power 5G show LTE instead of 5G?

LTE may be correct when 5G coverage, plan, SIM provisioning, supported bands or network mode do not align. Check the carrier account and Motorola’s compatibility information before treating it as a phone defect.

Will a network reset erase my photos?

No. It removes saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings, not photos, apps or general phone data.

Will a factory reset remove everything?

Yes. Back up first; downloaded apps and user data are erased, and Google Factory Reset Protection may request the prior account.

Does the 2024 model support wireless charging?

Motorola lists 15W wireless charging for the 2024 model, but verify your exact market and variant.

How do I know whether an app is causing the problem?

Use Safe Mode. If the symptom disappears there, uninstall recently added apps one at a time after returning to normal mode.
