The shift described as car retail’s “last analogue process” is to connect those physical displays to live dealership data—so a change to a price or vehicle detail can reach the forecourt without staff printing and replacing a card. That is a useful distinction, not proof that every dealer still relies on paper.
What is the “last analogue process” in car retail?
In Andrew Wood’s 18 September 2026 article for The AI Journal, the phrase refers to information displayed on vehicles sitting on a dealership forecourt, particularly windscreen price cards. A dealer may use digital systems to manage stock and customer activity yet still handle the physical vehicle’s displayed price or details through a manual print-and-replace routine. Wood argues that this gap is now technically addressable; his description is an industry thesis, not a measured finding that all dealerships use paper.

That matters because a forecourt display is part of the customer’s first-hand view of a vehicle. If the listed price, finance example, or specification changes in the dealership system, a paper card may need a separate update. A connected display is intended to carry that information from the dealership’s systems to the vehicle.
How connected vehicle displays are meant to work
AutoTalker describes a system in which digital vehicle pricing displays connect to a dealer management system (DMS), vehicle feed, or stock platform. Its product materials say the platform can show prices, specifications, promotions, finance examples, manufacturer branding, and QR codes, with display information changing when corresponding vehicle or offer data changes. These are vendor descriptions, not independent performance assessments.
#1 Best Overall
- Ergonomic Sports Car Shape Design - Available in elegant colored surface, alloy wheels, rubber tyres and working headlights, comfortable for every day use.
- Plug and Play - No driver is needed for operation, supports Windows 10 / 8 / 7 / XP / Vista / NT, Mac OS, Linux and more. 2.4 GHz Wireless Receiver, the operating distance is up to 10 meters.
- Power Saving Technology - Comes with a hibernation system when the mouse is not in use, so it won't use up all the power which ensures long battery life.
- 1600 DPI Optical Sensor - Provides precise and stable movement, making usage faster and more accurate.
The package described by AutoTalker can include displays, mounts, wireless access points, software, dealership templates, integration, installation, onboarding, training, and UK-based support. In other words, this is a dealership systems deployment, not simply an e-ink screen placed behind a windscreen. A display must be supported by the right data connection, setup, and ongoing service to be useful.
What could change for staff and customers?
For staff, the intended change is fewer separate printing and replacement steps when vehicle information or an offer changes. For customers, a connected card can present more than a price: the vendor says its displays can include specifications, finance examples, promotional graphics, and QR codes. The value depends on the dealer’s data, configuration, and update workflow.

Wood’s article reports that 72% of UK car buyers still want to see, test-drive, and buy a vehicle at a dealership, attributing the figure to AutoTalker research. The material accompanying the report does not provide the sample, question wording, or fieldwork details, so treat the statistic as an attributed claim rather than an independently validated estimate of all UK buyers’ preferences.
The article also says connected displays can reduce printing and repeated manual updates, but neither it nor the cited vendor material establishes a quantified saving in staff time, printing costs, pricing accuracy, sales conversion, or return on investment. A dealer considering the change should ask for evidence based on its own processes rather than assume a particular payback.

What should a dealership check before choosing a system?
The important comparison is the complete operating system around the screen: how it connects to existing stock data, what it can display, how it handles changes, and what deployment and support entail. The available product pages establish these as relevant buying dimensions, but do not provide an independent vendor comparison or total-cost-of-ownership results.
- Integration: Confirm whether the system works with the dealership’s specific DMS, vehicle feed, or stock platform, and how data is mapped and maintained.
- Display fields: Check which prices, specifications, finance examples, promotions, branding, and QR content are supported, and who controls templates.
- Update workflow: Ask how quickly changes reach displays and how the system treats sold, reserved, or otherwise unavailable vehicles. Confirm what staff must do when an update fails.
- Hardware and connectivity: Verify display size, mounting options, wireless coverage, power or battery expectations, and support requirements for the actual forecourt.
- Deployment and ongoing costs: Get the scope for installation, integration, training, software, maintenance, and support in writing. The cited materials do not establish a universal price or savings figure.
A generic e-ink sign or mount is not automatically a compatible substitute: the system depends on integration and operational support, not only on the display hardware.

- Wireless Connectivity: The mouse connects to your computer wirelessly for convenience.
- High DPI: The mouse has a 1600 DPI optical sensor for precise movement.
- Stylish Design: The mouse has a sports car shaped design that is stylish and fun.
- Ambidextrous: The mouse is designed to be used comfortably by either hand.
- Long Battery Life: The mouse has a long battery life so you don't have to worry about constantly replacing batteries.
Is printed pricing likely to disappear?
Wood predicts: “Five years from now, I believe printed windscreen price cards will feel as outdated as handwritten stock books.” That is the view of AutoTalker’s founder and CEO, not an established forecast. Whether a dealer moves away from paper will depend on compatibility, reliability, deployment effort, cost, and whether connected information fits its sales process.

The more grounded conclusion is narrower: connected display systems are being offered to link forecourt information with dealership data, and their stated purpose is to make updates less dependent on printing and manual replacement. The scale of adoption and any measurable operational gains are not established by the sources cited here.
