Ryobi’s US product listing names the 18V ONE+ 12Ah Lithium EDGE Battery, model PBP1112, as the highest-capacity battery in the 18V ONE+ system, and says it delivers the longest runtime in that system. For owners whose tools run out of charge before the job is done, it is a genuine upgrade. It is not automatically the right purchase. Whether it helps depends on your exact tool model, how much extra weight you can handle, and which charger you own.
What Ryobi says the PBP1112 is
The PBP1112 is a 12Ah pack in Ryobi’s 18V ONE+ line, and Ryobi US positions it at the top of that line. The product page describes tabless cell technology, IntelliCell electronics, COOL-CORE PRO thermal management, and an onboard LED fuel gauge. These are manufacturer descriptions of the design, not independent teardown or lab findings. Ryobi US states that the highest-capacity RYOBI ONE+ battery “delivers the longest runtime in the ONE+ system,” and that the pack is compatible with any RYOBI 18V ONE+ product.

Check tool compatibility before you buy
“Compatible with any 18V ONE+ product” is the starting point, not the final answer. Ryobi’s regional guidance is more specific. Ryobi Australia lists particular models as unsuitable for its regional 12Ah HP battery, which is a different product from the US PBP1112 and should not be read as a US exclusion list. Before buying, confirm the situation for your own tool:

- If you live outside the US, check the local Ryobi site for regional exclusions before assuming the US listing applies.
- Confirm you own a charger that matches the speed you expect (see the charging section below).
What the runtime and power claims show
Ryobi Canada describes the EDGE battery as delivering up to 2X more power and up to 10X more runtime. Treat these as manufacturer claims. Neither the claims nor the cited pages establish the test conditions, the comparison baseline, or results for any particular tool. Independent verification of the multipliers was not available for this article.

Runtime also depends on the task. A pack with more capacity will not change how hard a tool works in a demanding cut or drive. It mainly gives you more time before the battery needs a recharge, provided the tool can draw power from that larger pack as the manual intends.
Weight and handling
A bigger pack is usually heavier, and the extra mass lands where you hold the tool. Ryobi Australia lists its regional 18V ONE+ HP 12Ah battery at 1.56kg, alongside 216Wh and 2445W peak output. That Australian product is a different configuration, and the figure has not been confirmed as the weight of the US PBP1112. Weigh the pack yourself if weight matters for overhead or extended work, and compare it against the lighter pack you already own.

Charging time depends on the charger
Ryobi Canada says the 12Ah EDGE can charge to ready state in as little as 55 minutes with the fastest RYOBI ONE+ charger, which is sold separately. That time is tied to that specific charger. Owners with a slower charger should expect a longer wait, and the listing does not give a time for every ONE+ charger.
12Ah or 6Ah: how to decide
Ryobi US lists the 18V ONE+ 6Ah Lithium Battery, model PBP007, and describes its higher capacity as providing longer runtime and more power for a variety of ONE+ products. The 12Ah pack suits owners who run one tool through long sessions and can carry the extra weight. The 6Ah pack suits users who prioritize lighter handling, or who work in short bursts and recharge often. Choose based on your tool and the way you actually work.

The biggest battery is the right upgrade when runtime is the constraint, your tool is listed as compatible in its manual, you can handle the added weight, and your charger suits your schedule. If any of those conditions fails, the 6Ah pack or the battery you already own may serve you better.
