What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If you want a PC game that captures Bloodborne’s Gothic mood and aggressive soulslike combat, start with Lies of P. For plague horror and fast solo fights, try Thymesia; for a slower, more defensive rhythm, Mortal Shell. Other worthwhile picks trade the close match for a different strength: Elden Ring offers a vast open world, Dark Souls III another FromSoftware challenge, and Remnant co-op and firearms. None is an exact replacement for Bloodborne.
What makes a game feel like Bloodborne?
Bloodborne’s appeal is more than difficult combat. FromSoftware’s official description places the hunt in Yharnam, a city where disease transforms patients into bestial creatures and the player takes the role of a Hunter. That Gothic transformation horror is a useful part of the comparison, alongside combat pace and challenge. FromSoftware’s official Bloodborne page describes the premise.

So the best choice depends on what you want to carry over: a dark setting, forceful melee combat, a demanding action-RPG structure, or simply the feeling of overcoming punishing fights. The games below share some of those qualities, but differ in world design, defensive mechanics, and whether they are built for solo or cooperative play.
Best Bloodborne-inspired PC games
| Game | Best for | How it compares |
|---|---|---|
| Lies of P | Gothic style and forceful soulslike combat | Strongest overall blend in this group; its setting and mechanics remain distinct. |
| Thymesia | Plague horror and fast solo combat | A close thematic fit with its own weapon and combat systems. |
| Mortal Shell | A slower, defensive challenge | Shares a dark, punishing atmosphere but changes combat’s cadence. |
| Elden Ring | Open-world exploration and build freedom | Shares FromSoftware’s demanding action-RPG lineage, but shifts to expansive fantasy. |
| Dark Souls III | Another FromSoftware action RPG | Familiar design family, with less emphasis on Gothic horror in the cited comparison. |
| Remnant: From the Ashes / Remnant II | Co-op and ranged combat | A broader action-soulslike alternative, not a close combat match. |
| Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | Precision deflections and focused fights | Shares demanding action, but its posture-and-deflection combat loop is notably different. |
Lies of P: closest overall match
Lies of P is the best first stop if you want a PC game that combines Gothic atmosphere with brisk, forceful soulslike action. PCGamesN describes its Victorian Gothic and Belle Époque influences, fast combat, and varied melee weapons. It has a strong stylistic kinship with Bloodborne without being a copy: its world and specific combat systems are its own. PCGamesN’s soulslike guide discusses those qualities.
#1 Best Overall
- Bloodborne Game of The Year
- If Bloodborne needs to be summed up, then the prevalent themes would be: exploring the fearsome unknown, intense life-and-death battles, and a familiar yet uniquely new online experience
- From the makers of the infamous Souls series, From Software's PS4 exclusive will attempt to take the tried and tested formula of giving players a sense of achievement to the next stage - especially when Miyazaki, the original creator of the Souls series is back at the helm
- What is promised is a harrowing experience like no other, and fans of tension, discovery, and straight up fun will sure to be excited to play Bloodborne
- If you have played the previous Souls games, then this one is a definite must buy
Thymesia: plague fiction and fast solo fights
Thymesia is the most direct thematic choice for plague horror. Publisher Team17 explicitly pitches it to fans of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, describing a dark, challenging action RPG where plague is a weapon. Its Steam page describes fast-paced combat and single-player play, making it a fit if you want a focused solo experience rather than co-op. Team17’s official page and the Steam listing provide the publisher and PC-store details.
Mortal Shell: a more defensive rhythm
Mortal Shell is the pick if you want a punishing dark fantasy action game but are open to a more deliberate pace. Its signature hardening ability lets you turn to stone to absorb an attack, while occupying fallen warriors changes your available capabilities. Those mechanics put more emphasis on defense and timing than a straightforward rush into an opening. The Steam description outlines hardening and the fallen-warrior mechanic.
Rank #2
- Bloodborne - Game Of The Year Edition [PS4]
Elden Ring: the open-world alternative
Choose Elden Ring if exploration and build flexibility matter more than matching Bloodborne’s Gothic-horror mood. It offers another demanding FromSoftware action RPG, but at a much larger open-world scale. It is available on PC; the cited comparison frames it as an open-world option for Bloodborne fans. Metacritic’s comparison includes its PC availability.

Dark Souls III: another FromSoftware challenge
Dark Souls III is a sensible choice when what you want most is another FromSoftware action RPG, rather than a close match for Yharnam’s atmosphere. It retains the demanding action-RPG appeal, but the comparison source does not position it as specifically Gothic-horror in the way Bloodborne is. Metacritic’s comparison lists PC availability.
Rank #3
- A Terrifying New World: Journey to a horror-filled gothic city where deranged mobs and nightmarish creatures lurk around every corner.
- Strategic Action Combat: Armed with a unique arsenal of weaponry, including guns and saw cleavers, you'll need wits, strategy and reflexes to take down the agile and intelligent enemies that guard the city's dark secrets.
- A New Generation of Action RPG: Stunningly detailed gothic environments, atmospheric lighting, and advanced new online experiences showcase the power and prowess of PlayStation 4.
Remnant: co-op and firearms
Remnant: From the Ashes is a better fit if you want to face a soulslike challenge with other players and use firearms. That makes it a broader alternative, not a close substitute for Bloodborne’s melee combat. Remnant II also appears among the PC soulslike results in Steam’s discovery listings. Metacritic’s comparison highlights co-op and firearms for the first game; Steam’s soulslike listings include the sequel.
Sekiro: precision over Gothic similarity
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice belongs on the list for players who want demanding action but not necessarily Bloodborne’s atmosphere or combat feel. PCGamesN distinguishes it through its posture and deflection focus, a more precise and concentrated fighting loop. PCGamesN’s guide discusses that distinction, and Steam’s soulslike listings include a PC result.

The cited material identifies PC listings or availability for these recommendations, but storefront pages can change and regional access, editions, prices, and discounts may vary.
