Levoit Core 300S-P: a candidate for a typical small or medium bedroom
Its reported 141 CFM CADR and 219-square-foot rating at 4.8 air changes per hour make it a starting point for a modest room. Compare its airflow and noise at the speed you expect to use at night, rather than assuming the maximum-speed rating describes quiet operation.
#1 Best Overall
- WHY CHOOSE AHAM VERIFIDE AIR PURIFIERS: AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) is an ANSI-accredited organization that sets strict standards for appliance performance. Air purifiers with the AHAM VERIFIDE seal have been independently tested for air cleaning performance and energy efficiency. When you choose an AHAM certified air purifier, you're choosing a product trusted for reliable and effective indoor air quality improvement
- HIGH-PERFORMANCE AIR PURIFICATION: A powerful 56W high-torque motor and 143 CFM CADR delivers fast, effective cleaning. The Levoit Original Filter is HEPA-grade while operating in Sleep Mode (Based on IEST RP C001.7). Ideal for home, bedroom, or office
- AHAM VERIFIDE, PROVEN PERFORMANCE: AHAM VERIFIDE with a CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) rating of 143 CFM for smoke, 153 CFM for dust, and 167 CFM for pollen—refreshing air in a 222 ft² room 4.8 times per hour and a 1,073 ft² room once per hour
- GENUINE REPLACEMENT FILTERS: For the best performance and longest lifespan, use official Levoit filters designed specifically for Levoit air purifiers. Levoit replacement filters ensure the best fit and high-efficiency filtration, while off-brand filters may be unreliable and may damage your Levoit air purifier
- FIND COMFORT: Our filter has strong filtration performance of fine particles. 99.97% filtration efficiency for 0.1 to 0.3μm airborne particulates, including pollen, dust, and animal dander allergens. Tested by an independent lab
Blueair Blue Pure 411i Max: a candidate for a smaller room
The comparison reports 145 CFM smoke CADR and coverage of 225 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour, with a noise range of 18–46 dB. Its low end is the quietest minimum in this four-model comparison, but the published range alone does not tell you how much air it cleans at that setting.
Coway Airmega Mighty: a candidate for a larger bedroom
Its reported smoke CADR is 233 CFM, with a listed room size of 361 square feet. That larger capacity may suit a bigger room, but actual suitability still depends on ceiling height and whether the purifier will run at a tolerable speed.
Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max: a candidate for a large bedroom
The comparison reports 283 CFM smoke CADR and a 439-square-foot room figure. It has the highest reported smoke CADR of these four candidates; that does not establish that it is the quietest or most effective choice at a sleep-friendly setting.

What size air purifier do I need for my bedroom?
Start with the room’s floor area and the purifier’s smoke CADR. The U.S. EPA and AHAM both recommend a smoke CADR at least two-thirds of the room area in square feet. For an 8-foot ceiling, the EPA’s guide gives these approximate pairings:
| Room area | EPA guide’s estimated minimum airflow |
|---|---|
| 100 sq ft | 65 CFM |
| 200 sq ft | 130 CFM |
| 300 sq ft | 195 CFM |
| 400 sq ft | 260 CFM |
| 500 sq ft | 325 CFM |
| 600 sq ft | 390 CFM |
These are sizing recommendations, not guarantees of identical performance in every bedroom. Higher ceilings increase the volume of air, so AHAM advises choosing a larger-rated unit. Use the EPA’s indoor air filtration guidance and AHAM Verifide directory to check sizing and look up a model’s independently verified CADR. Confirm the exact model variant: similar product names do not guarantee the same certification or performance.
How quiet should a purifier be for sleeping?
There is no single noise number that guarantees a purifier will be comfortable overnight. Noise changes with fan speed, and CADR is generally reported at the highest speed. The EPA notes that airflow and filtration increase with higher fan speeds and longer operation; therefore a quiet sleep mode is useful only if it still provides enough cleaning for your room.

With added convenience features such as 3 timer settings (4H/8H/12H), 4 fan modes (Sleep/Low/Med/High), and 4 night light modes (Multicolor, Blue, Green, Purple), Purivortex delivers comfort tailored to your lifestyle.
- Compare noise and airflow at the same fan setting, especially the setting you expect to use while sleeping.
- Look for a display-dimming or display-off control if room light matters to you; verify that the exact model provides it.
- Consider running the purifier at a higher speed while you are awake and lowering it at bedtime, if the controls and your room’s needs make that practical.
The figures in the shortlist are reported ranges, not matched measurements of noise and clean-air delivery at each speed. For context, RTINGS reports its own tested figures for two different products: 31.2 dBA at lowest fan speed and 213 CFM measured PM1.0 CADR for the Blueair Blue Signature Large, and 33.7 dBA at lowest fan speed and 162 CFM for the Levoit Core 600S. These are not members of the four-model shortlist and should not be treated as directly comparable to the figures above. See RTINGS’ bedroom purifier comparison for its testing context.

Will an air purifier remove odors as well as dust?
Not necessarily. CADR measures particle-cleaning performance; it does not establish how well a purifier removes gases or odors. For gases, the EPA advises looking for activated carbon or another gas-targeted filter. Carbon performance depends partly on how much carbon the filter contains, so a generic claim about odor removal is not a substitute for details about the filter design.
If dust, pollen, smoke particles, or other particles are the concern, compare particle CADR with the room size. If odors or gases are the concern, check the manufacturer’s information for the relevant filter and its intended use instead of inferring gas removal from a high CADR.

Is it safe to leave an air purifier on overnight?
A purifier that filters air without intentionally generating ozone can be used as part of an indoor-air strategy, subject to the manufacturer’s operating instructions. The EPA advises against using air cleaners that intentionally generate ozone in occupied spaces. Ionizers, electrostatic precipitators, some UV designs, and plasma cleaners may emit ozone; for devices using bipolar ionization, the EPA recommends UL 2998 certification. Check the exact model’s features rather than relying on a broad “air cleaning” label. See the EPA’s guidance on air cleaners and respiratory viruses.
RTINGS notes that the Blueair Blue Signature Large’s additional electrostatically charged layer produces ozone while running; it says the level is certified within safe limits and that the layer cannot be turned off. That is a different model from the Blue Pure 411i Max and 311i Max in this shortlist, so do not assume the feature or finding applies to them. Check documentation for the specific purifier you are considering.
What to verify before choosing a model
- Exact CADR: Search AHAM’s live directory by model. AHAM says its listed room-cleaner performance is independently verified through third-party testing and includes smoke, pollen, and dust CADR. Certification should be confirmed for the exact model, not inferred from a brand name.
- Overnight performance: Look for noise and airflow information at the fan speed you will actually use. A maximum-speed CADR and a sleep-mode label do not, on their own, tell you how much air is cleaned quietly.
- Filter fit and maintenance: Confirm the replacement filter is specified for the exact model and check the manufacturer’s replacement guidance. The available figures do not establish part numbers, replacement intervals, or current costs for the four models.
- Current availability: Product names and specifications can vary by market and model revision. Verify the listing and manufacturer documentation for your region before purchase.
Place the purifier where people spend the most time and keep its air intake and outlet unobstructed, following the manufacturer’s placement instructions. A purifier can reduce some airborne particles, including some mold-generated particles, but it cannot fix the moisture source that causes mold growth.

What a bedroom purifier can—and cannot—do
Filtration is only one part of improving indoor air. As the EPA puts it, “Filtration does not replace the need to control pollutants and ventilate.” Reduce pollutant sources where possible and ventilate appropriately; do not expect a portable purifier to remedy every indoor-air problem. The EPA also says it “does not certify or recommend specific brands or models of air filters or portable air cleaners.”
For this reason, the four products above are candidates based on the reported room and CADR figures, not EPA-approved choices or independently tested winners here. For a model-level comparison that is backed by certification, check the exact listing in AHAM’s directory.
