How to choose capacity for your bedroom
Start with room size and measured relative humidity (RH), then consider whether the dampness is occasional or persistent. ENERGY STAR’s current buying chart offers broad starting ranges for small-to-medium rooms, including rooms up to 2,000 square feet; those ranges are not bedroom-specific prescriptions.

Most full bedrooms: Midea MAD35S1QWT
RTINGS names the MAD35S1QWT its best bedroom dehumidifier after testing more than 20 portable units. Its test reports more than 20 pints/day of capacity and a 4.2-gallon tank. RTINGS also describes it as relatively quiet and low in heat output compared with larger 50-pint alternatives—useful traits when a unit will run near a bed. Its bulk and weight may make placement or moving it between rooms inconvenient.
Larger or wetter connected spaces: Midea MAD50PS1AWT-C
Choose a higher-capacity unit only when the room’s moisture load calls for it. RTINGS recommends this Midea for larger rooms, including bedrooms that share air with a bathroom or studio living area. Closets and tiny spaces: TABYIK DH-CS01
The DH-CS01 is a compact, quiet option for a closet or similarly small enclosed space with mild moisture. It is not a best dehumidifier for a damp full-size bedroom. It lacks a humidistat and continuous-drain connection, so it cannot regulate to a chosen RH and its tank must be emptied by hand.
Bedroom comfort: noise, heat, and cold-room performance

Room temperature is another selection factor. ENERGY STAR warns that compressor coils can frost below 65°F, potentially causing repeated cycling without moisture removal. If your bedroom runs cold, check the specific model’s stated operating-temperature range rather than assuming every compressor model behaves the same. Measure humidity and set a sensible target
ENERGY STAR describes 30–50% RH as a general building optimum. In colder climates during heating season, it gives 30–40% as a range that can help prevent window condensation. These are general guidance ranges, not a requirement to drive every bedroom to the lowest possible humidity.

An adjustable humidistat lets you set a target RH. If your chosen unit lacks one or does not display humidity, ENERGY STAR suggests using a separate hygrometer to monitor the room. Tank, drainage, and day-to-day use
A tank is convenient when you cannot route a drain hose, but it requires attention: removable buckets typically stop the unit when full. For less frequent emptying, a model with continuous drainage can use a hose routed to a suitable floor drain or sump. Confirm that the appliance supports the setup you need; the TABYIK DH-CS01 does not offer continuous drainage.

- Place a drain hose where water can flow safely to an appropriate drain or sump.
- Keep drainage away from electrical connections and avoid routing a hose where it creates a trip hazard.
- Choose a tank size and shutoff arrangement you can manage; a full bucket can stop moisture removal until it is emptied.
- Follow the manufacturer’s placement and maintenance instructions for the model you buy.

What ENERGY STAR certification tells you in 2026
ENERGY STAR Version 6.0 took effect October 1, 2025. Its minimum integrated energy factor (IEF) for portable dehumidifiers varies by rated capacity tier:

IEF is an efficiency measure, and the applicable threshold depends on the unit’s capacity tier. ENERGY STAR certification is a useful comparison criterion, but it does not tell you whether a particular model is quiet enough, fits your room, or can operate at your bedroom’s temperature. Check the current model listing against ENERGY STAR’s Version 6.0 efficiency criteria.
Why bedroom recommendations differ
Two 2026 guides reach different conclusions because they use different evidence and priorities. RTINGS reports lab testing across more than 20 portable units and selects a 35-pint-class Midea for a primary bedroom, weighing noise and heat as well as capacity. AirCareGuide recommends a 50-pint Midea Cube, a 13-pint Ivation desiccant model, and a 50-pint hOmeLabs model, while disclosing that it did not test those products in its own bedrooms. For sleep-focused selection, room-specific noise and heat evidence is useful alongside capacity recommendations. AirCareGuide’s 2026 bedroom guide is a secondary perspective, not equivalent bedroom testing.
When comparing guides or product labels, check the capacity rating conditions and the model’s room-use evidence. A larger pint number alone does not establish that a dehumidifier is the better choice beside a bed.
