Terminator: Survivors is planned as a single-player open-world survival game set just after Judgment Day. That makes it a different proposition from the released, story-led first-person shooter Terminator: Resistance and the 2D arcade action of Terminator 2D: No Fate. Survivors is still unreleased: Steam lists its release date as “To be announced.”
Is Terminator: Survivors out yet?
No. The Steam listing says Terminator: Survivors is not yet available and gives no release date beyond “To be announced.” In a developer update dated December 16, 2025, the team said it had removed cooperative multiplayer and would focus on a complete, polished launch rather than early access. It also said a new release date had not been set.

The game’s current announcement describes a single-player experience. An earlier official FAQ mentioned co-op, but the later December 2025 update supersedes that plan. The game has not been released for players to assess, so its described features should be read as announced plans rather than a verdict on finished gameplay.

What kind of game is Terminator: Survivors?
Survivors is set in the aftermath of Judgment Day, as people emerge from shelter and try to establish a foothold in a world devastated by Skynet. The Steam description places the story four years after the catastrophe, while the game’s official FAQ identifies the year as 2009.
#1 Best Overall
- Run and gun or sneak and hack through Skynet's defences!
- Interact with a motley group of survivors and change their fates!
- Get under the skin of the iconic T-800 series Infiltrator and strike out against Resistance forces with the new INFILTRATOR MODE.
- Improved framerates, graphical fidelity, faster load times, and the new hardware features of the DualSense controller
Its announced focus is survival and exploration: scavenging, investigating what happened, developing a home base, and choosing whether to fight or evade Skynet machines and human scavengers. A T-800 is described as a persistent threat. The emphasis is therefore on surviving and building up in the early post-apocalyptic period, rather than following a conventional sequence of Future War shooter missions.
How does Survivors compare with other Terminator games?
| Game | Status | Setting and story | Format and focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terminator: Survivors | Unreleased; Steam says the release date is “To be announced.” | Four years after Judgment Day; the official FAQ gives the year as 2009. | Planned single-player open-world survival, exploration, scavenging, home-base development, and a recurring T-800 threat. |
| Terminator: Resistance | Released; Reef Entertainment lists November 15, 2019 as its release date. | Nearly 30 years after Judgment Day in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. You play Resistance soldier Jacob Rivers. | Single-player first-person shooter with story missions, side quests, scavenging, crafting, and choices that affect survivors and the ending. |
| Terminator 2D: No Fate | Announced as a licensed game; the cited 2025 announcement names PS5 and PS4. | Retells and expands Terminator 2, including additional Future War missions featuring adult John Connor. | 2D arcade-style side-scrolling action featuring Sarah Connor, John Connor, and the T-800. |
How is Terminator: Survivors different from Terminator: Resistance?
Resistance is the closer comparison if you want a first-person game about humanity’s war against Skynet, but its setting and structure differ. It follows Jacob Rivers in the later Future War, nearly three decades after Judgment Day, through story missions and side quests. Its scavenging and crafting support a mission-driven shooter in which choices affect survivors and the ending.

Survivors instead focuses on the immediate aftermath: exploring an open world, trying to rebuild from a home base, and coping with a T-800 threat. It is planned as single-player, but remains unreleased. The available information establishes different premises and timelines, not a direct sequel relationship between the two games.

No Fate is the format contrast: a licensed 2D arcade-style side-scroller based on Terminator 2, rather than an open-world survival game or first-person shooter. The PlayStation Blog announcement says players control Sarah Connor, John Connor, and the T-800 in missions that retell the film while expanding its story, including Future War missions with adult John Connor.
