Apple publishes detailed A15 specifications for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro; Google identifies Tensor G4 in Pixel phones, including the Pixel 9 family. Benchmark scores can help only when you know the exact phone, workload and test version behind them.
What the published specifications establish
The chips are not equally documented in the sources available for this comparison. Apple’s iPhone specifications provide core counts for the A15 Bionic, while Google’s Pixel hardware page identifies Tensor G4 without establishing its CPU core count, GPU configuration or fabrication process. Those missing Tensor G4 details should not be inferred from unsourced comparison tables.

| Processor and host phone | CPU | GPU | Neural Engine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple A15 Bionic in iPhone 13 | 6 cores: 2 performance and 4 efficiency | 4 cores | 16 cores |
| Apple A15 Bionic in iPhone 13 Pro | 6 cores | 5 cores | 16 cores |
| Google Tensor G4 in Pixel phones, including Pixel 9 family | Core count not stated on Google’s cited hardware page | Configuration not stated on Google’s cited hardware page | Not stated on Google’s cited hardware page |

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro therefore represent different A15 GPU configurations. A comparison that says only “A15” can conceal that distinction. Core counts also do not, by themselves, establish whole-phone speed, battery life, heat under sustained load or game performance.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Can benchmark scores settle which chip is faster?
Not without matching the test conditions. Geekbench publishes individual Geekbench 6 results for the Pixel 9 with Tensor G4, but an individual result is not a controlled head-to-head test against an A15-equipped iPhone. Geekbench labels its Geekbench 6 page a legacy benchmark and says its results should be compared only with other Geekbench 6 results. See the Geekbench 6 CPU results.
Geekbench 6 and Geekbench 7 scores should not be mixed as though they came from the same test. Nor should a CPU single-core score be treated as interchangeable with a multi-core score or a GPU workload. Before drawing a conclusion from any chart, check:

- Test and version: Confirm the benchmark name and version, and whether the result measures CPU single-core, CPU multi-core or GPU performance.
- Host phones: Identify the exact Pixel and iPhone models. The A15 GPU differs between iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro.
- Conditions: Consider software, cooling and power limits. A phone score reflects a chip operating inside a particular device, not an isolated processor under identical lab conditions.
A third-party chart can offer a directional comparison, but separate-device scores do not establish a definitive chip-only ranking unless the phones, workload and conditions are suitably matched. The available comparison evidence does not establish such a matched Pixel 9 and A15 iPhone test.

How to interpret Apple’s A15 performance claims
When Apple introduced the iPhone 13 in 2021, it said the A15 CPU was “up to 50 percent faster than the competition” and the GPU “up to 30 percent faster than the competition.” Those are Apple’s launch claims, with the “up to” qualification, not independent measurements against Tensor G4. Apple also reported that the Neural Engine could perform 15.8 trillion operations per second. That is a vendor-stated capability figure, not a comparative benchmark. See Apple’s iPhone 13 announcement.

What the comparison means in practice
For a narrow processor comparison, the defensible conclusion is limited: Apple publishes specific A15 CPU, GPU and Neural Engine counts for two iPhone configurations, while Google’s cited page confirms Tensor G4 in Pixel phones but does not provide equivalent architecture details. The benchmark evidence does not establish a controlled overall winner.
If you are choosing a phone rather than studying chips, processor labels alone cannot settle which device is the better buy. Camera performance, battery life, software support, price and availability require their own device-level evidence; a benchmark score does not answer those questions.
