Check them in that order. A hidden preview is not the same problem as a missing alert, and a muted chat does not mean Telegram notifications are disabled everywhere.
First identify what is behaving differently
Pin down the symptom before changing settings. Is there no notification at all, no sound, a notification that arrives late, or an alert whose message content is hidden or unexpected? Also note whether the issue affects one conversation or all of Telegram. Those clues help distinguish a per-chat setting from an iPhone-wide setting or a delivery schedule.

Check Telegram’s notification settings and the affected chat
In Telegram, open Settings → Notifications and Sounds. Confirm notifications are enabled for the relevant category, then open the affected conversation’s settings and check whether that chat is muted. Telegram supports controls at both the app and individual-chat level, so a single muted conversation can behave differently from other chats.
Telegram’s FAQ gives this basic troubleshooting path, but cautions that its document may contain outdated information as the app changes. Use the labels in your current Telegram version as the final guide. Telegram FAQ.

Check iPhone notification permission, sound, and alert locations
On iPhone, go to Settings → Notifications → Telegram. Check Allow Notifications, then review the available alert locations—Lock Screen, Notification Center, and banners—and the sound option. Apple lets users configure notifications separately for each app, so permission or presentation settings here can affect Telegram even when its in-app settings are enabled. Menu labels and available options can differ by iOS version.
Separate hidden previews from missing notifications
If the alert arrives but the message text is absent, check Settings → Notifications → Show Previews. Depending on the iOS version, the choices include Always, When Unlocked, and Never. Some apps may also provide an app-specific preview override. These options control how much content is visible; they do not, by themselves, turn notification permission on or off.
Telegram’s issue tracker includes an open report about per-chat preview rules being ignored for certain stickers, custom emoji, or media. The report describes Telegram for iOS 12.4 (32252) on an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 26.2.1. It is evidence of a reported, specific behavior—not proof that previews are unreliable in general or that every device is affected. Telegram iOS issue report.

Check Focus and Scheduled Summary for delayed or interrupted alerts
An active Focus can suppress interruptions and delay notification delivery. Apple Support explains that “When you use Focus, it delays the delivery of notifications on iPhone to prevent interruptions.” Review the Focus currently active and any schedules or allowed-notification settings that apply to Telegram.
Also check whether Telegram is included in Scheduled Summary. If it is, its notifications may be delivered as part of the summary rather than immediately. Focus and Scheduled Summary affect timing or interruption, not Telegram’s per-chat mute state. Try Telegram’s alert-style reset only if the checks above do not help
Telegram’s FAQ suggests resetting the iPhone alert style. Treat this as a troubleshooting attempt rather than a guaranteed fix, especially because the FAQ warns that its instructions may be outdated.

- Close Telegram.
- Open Settings → Notifications → Telegram and set the alert style to None, if that option is available.
- Reopen Telegram.
- Return to the same iPhone notification settings and set the alert style back to banners, using the current label shown on your device.
Use the symptom to avoid changing the wrong setting
- If only one conversation is affected, start with its Telegram mute and notification controls.
- If all Telegram alerts are absent, check Telegram’s notification categories and iPhone’s Allow Notifications setting.
- If alerts show up late, inspect Focus and Scheduled Summary before changing preview privacy.
- If alerts arrive but message content looks wrong, check preview settings and consider whether the issue resembles Telegram’s specific open report.
- If an alert is visible but silent, check sound in both Telegram and the iPhone’s Telegram notification settings.
