The Technics EAH-AZ80 is a feature-rich premium earbud whose clearest standout is multipoint connectivity for up to three Bluetooth devices. Independent reviews also praise its sound, but describe noise cancelling and call quality as less consistently competitive with Sony and Bose. It launched in 2023, so its value today depends on the current price—not its launch-era positioning.
What the Technics EAH-AZ80 offers
Technics announced the EAH-AZ80 on May 19, 2023. Its official specifications list 10 mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.3, SBC, AAC and LDAC codec support, dual-hybrid noise cancelling, and IPX4-equivalent water resistance for the earbuds. The rating does not extend to the charging case. See Technics’ specifications and the May 2023 launch announcement.

How the sound, noise cancelling, and calls compare
Sound
RTINGS characterizes the default tuning as warm and bass-leaning, with comparatively balanced mids and treble. That is an attributed assessment, not a guarantee of how every listener will perceive the sound: fit, playback device, codec, and personal preference matter. What Hi-Fi? describes the AZ80 as balanced and feature-rich, while noting the pressure from established rivals. Read the full assessments from RTINGS and What Hi-Fi?.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

RTINGS finds the isolation impressive in office settings and more serviceable on busy streets or in airplane cabins. What Hi-Fi? and TechRadar both put the AZ80 in a competitive field where Sony and Bose remain strong alternatives; What Hi-Fi? points readers prioritizing the strongest ANC toward Bose. Noise reduction varies with surroundings and the seal in your ears, so these review judgments should not be treated as a universal ranking. TechRadar’s review offers another perspective.

Calls
RTINGS describes the microphone performance as passable: voices remain understandable, but can sound thin or muffled, and loud passing sounds can challenge noise handling. If calls in noisy places are a priority, this is a meaningful trade-off to weigh against the AZ80’s broader feature set.
Three-device multipoint—and the LDAC trade-off
The AZ80 can maintain connections to up to three Bluetooth devices, a practical advantage for moving among a laptop, phone, and tablet. Technics explains the feature in its Bluetooth multipoint FAQ. For example, you can connect a laptop and phone at the same time rather than disconnecting one before using the other.
There is a codec limitation: Panasonic states that LDAC cannot be used when multipoint is set to three devices. If LDAC matters more than having three simultaneous connections, account for that trade-off before choosing how to use the earbuds. See Panasonic’s LDAC and multipoint FAQ.

Battery life: official estimates, not independent results
Technics’ specifications give approximate ANC-on playback figures that vary by codec. These are manufacturer estimates, not independently measured battery results.

| LDAC with ANC on | About 4.5 hours | About 16 hours total |

Should you buy the AZ80?
The AZ80 makes the most sense if you value its reported sound quality, a broad feature set, and the flexibility to connect three devices. Its compromises matter more if your priorities are the strongest possible ANC or especially clear calls in noisy environments. Sony’s WF-1000XM5, Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II, and Apple AirPods Pro 2 are relevant alternatives named in independent AZ80 reviews, but review scores from different publishers are not a shared laboratory scale.

Firmware and support context
Panasonic’s firmware information page lists updates dated May, July, and August 2023 and states an initial security-support period through May 31, 2026. That stated period is not evidence that firmware releases stopped then, nor does it establish a newer support policy.
