Technics EAH-AZ100 Review: Sound, ANC, Battery Life, and Three-Device Multipoint

The Technics EAH-AZ100 combines praised sound and three-device multipoint with strong reported battery life, while reviewer impressions of its ANC vary.

The Technics EAH-AZ100 is a premium true wireless earbud built around sound quality and flexible device switching. Reviewers praise its detailed audio and battery life, but disagree about how well its noise cancellation handles difficult low-frequency noise. Its three-device multipoint is a practical advantage if you regularly move between a phone, computer, and tablet; whether it is worth flagship money depends more on fit and your ANC expectations.

What are the Technics EAH-AZ100?

Announced on January 7, 2025, the EAH-AZ100 is Technics’ premium true wireless model. Its feature set includes adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), Voice Focus AI for calls, multipoint connections to three devices, and spatial-audio features optimized for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Head Tracking. These are manufacturer-described capabilities, not independent measurements of sound or noise reduction. Technics’ product page lists the model and its features.

The headline driver is Technics’ Magnetic Fluid Driver. The company says it places an oil-like liquid containing magnetic particles between the driver magnet and voice coil, a design intended to reduce unwanted vibration and distortion. In plain terms, it is a driver design aimed at keeping playback controlled and clear; the design itself does not guarantee that every listener will prefer the resulting sound. The launch announcement also describes a smaller, lighter concha-fit shape, five supplied ear-tip sizes, Qi wireless charging, Google Fast Pair, an iOS and Android app, and support for LE Audio, Auracast, and LC3. Technics’ January 7, 2025 announcement explains those specifications.

How do the AZ100 sound?

Sound is the most consistently praised part of the AZ100’s case. Tom’s Guide highlights clarity and detail, while SoundGuys describes the default tuning as unusual enough that listeners unsure about it should try the app’s EQ presets. That combination matters: strong detail is a positive review impression, not proof of a universally pleasing sound signature. If you can, listen before buying and test the EQ rather than assuming the stock tuning will suit you.

#1 Best Overall
Technics EAHAZ100 Reference Class Hi-Fi True Wireless Earbuds with Dolby Atmos and Noise Cancellation, Black
  • Magnetic liquid driver for low distortion, precise base and high resolution.
  • Adaptive noise reduction technology is adjusted in real time to block ambient noise while maintaining optimal ANC at all times.
  • Voice Focus AI technology provides advanced noise reduction not only during speech, but also listening.
  • Spatial sound optimised for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Head Tracking.
  • Multipoint connectivity to 3 devices with seamless switching (e.g. PC, smartphone and tablet)

Technics markets the driver for low distortion, accurate bass, and high-resolution audio. Those are manufacturer claims; the reviews’ listening impressions are subjective and do not establish that the earbuds are objectively best in class. The app also exposes sound and ANC adjustments, according to SoundGuys, giving listeners options to tailor the experience.

How good is the ANC?

ANC is the least settled part of the AZ100’s performance. SoundGuys says the earbuds do not set records for raw noise reduction, but finds their cancellation consistently effective against common airplane and train noise. It also rates transparency mode well. Tom’s Guide, by contrast, found the ANC decent but not class-leading: its reviewer could still hear a lawn mower’s low-frequency rumble and would not choose the earbuds for a flight.

These assessments are not necessarily contradictory. Noise cancellation can handle a steady cabin or rail rumble differently from nearby machinery, and fit affects both passive isolation and ANC. SoundGuys specifically notes that a poor tip seal can undermine isolation and cancellation. If blocking the most challenging low-frequency noise is your top priority, treat the AZ100 as a less certain choice than its premium positioning might suggest.

Can the AZ100 connect to three devices?

Yes. Technics advertises connection to three devices with seamless switching. That can be useful when a laptop, phone, and tablet all need access to the same earbuds, reducing the need to disconnect and pair again whenever you change activities. Multipoint is a more distinctive practical strength than a claim about a particular sound quality: consider whether you actually switch among several devices before treating it as a deciding feature.

The AZ100 also supports LE Audio and LC3, and Technics lists Auracast support. These capabilities depend on compatible source devices and software, so the presence of a feature in the earbuds does not mean every phone, computer, or app can use it. Google Fast Pair is included for supported Android devices; the Technics Audio Connect app is available for iOS and Android, according to the launch announcement.

How long does the battery last?

Technics estimates up to 10 hours of listening per charge and up to 28 hours in total with the charging case when ANC is on. “Up to” is a best-case manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee for every listening setup. The launch announcement gives those figures.

Independent results vary with test method and settings:

Source and conditions Reported runtime
Technics estimate, ANC on Up to 10 hours per charge; up to 28 hours including the case
SoundGuys standardized test, 2025: SBC, ANC on, real music peaking at 75 dB SPL 10 hours, 40 minutes
Tom’s Guide reviewer use, 2025: AAC, ANC on About 34 hours total

The independent figures are not directly comparable: the SoundGuys figure is a single-earbud-charge test under stated conditions, while Tom’s Guide reports total case-inclusive runtime from its own use. SoundGuys cautions that volume, LDAC, and other features can affect endurance. For your own estimate, expect runtime to depend on codec, listening level, ANC use, and other settings rather than assuming any one review figure will repeat exactly.

Fit, app, and other drawbacks to consider

Fit can make or break both comfort and noise isolation. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer says the earbuds may feel like pressure in the ear canal for some people; that is an individual fit impression, not a universal complaint. The fifth supplied tip size may help some ears find a seal, but tip quantity cannot ensure a comfortable fit for everyone.

  • Expect some app friction: Tom’s Guide flags usability friction in its experience. Try the app’s controls if adjusting EQ or ANC is important to you.
  • Consider audio delay: Tom’s Guide also notes audio delay. If you plan to watch video or play games, test synchronization with your own devices and apps.

Are the Technics AZ100 worth it?

The AZ100 makes the strongest case for listeners who value detailed, customizable sound and frequent switching among three connected devices. Battery life is another strength supported by both the manufacturer’s estimate and positive review reporting. Its weaker buying case is for someone who needs dependable best-in-class cancellation of difficult low-frequency noise, or who cannot tolerate in-ear pressure.

At launch, the suggested retail price was $299.99 in the US, with UK and European launch prices of £259 and €299, respectively; these are historical launch prices, not current offers. Panasonic North America’s January 7, 2025 announcement gives the US MSRP, and Technics’ launch announcement gives the UK and European RRPs. Current retailer pricing and stock are not established here, so judge value using the price available where you shop rather than the original MSRP alone.
