On paper it is a sensible choice for a bedroom, a smaller room or a secondary screen. This review does not include measured picture, motion or sound results for the set, so it cannot tell you how a specific unit looks or sounds. Use the published specifications below as a starting point and check the points in the buying checklist before you pay.
Which 43C655 this review covers
The model number is used across several regional listings, and the specifications differ between them. Where a figure comes from a particular market, this review names that market. The most detailed source is TCL Electronics Australia’s 43C655 Product Specifications sheet, which is undated and identifies the set as “43C655” and “43" QLED 4K Google TV.” The sheet notes that specifications may change and that some features may need a software update. Dutch consumer testers at Consumentenbond describe a 2024, 43-inch, 4K LCD-LED smart TV, and TCL’s European listing for the range is at TCL Europe’s C655 page.

Specifications at a glance
The table sets the Australian manufacturer sheet against the Dutch Consumentenbond summary. Where a source does not give a value, the cell says so rather than filling it in from another market.

The brightness, contrast and response figures are the manufacturer’s own numbers. They are not independent measurements, and they are listed only for the Australian sheet.
#1 Best Overall
- 4K UltraHD QLED color: Quantum Dot technology delivers over a billion vibrant, true-to-life shades in every scene
- HDR PRO+: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 & HLG for enhanced contrast, accurate color, and fine detail across every format
- Dolby Atmos + DTS:X: Full spatial audio support across both major formats - Dolby Atmos and DTS:X/DTS Virtual:X - for broader soundbar and content compatibility
- Auto Game Mode (ALLM) + Game Bar: Automatic low-latency switching plus an on-screen overlay to fine-tune settings without leaving the game
- Motion Rate 240 with MEMC: Best-in-class motion clarity for fast sports and action, double the motion rating of typical competing QLEDs, for an ultra-crisp, blur-free picture
HDR and Dolby Vision
Dolby Vision is listed by both the Australian manufacturer sheet and the Dutch summary, so it is the HDR format least likely to be a regional mistake. HDR10+ is listed only on the Australian sheet. Whether a given streaming app delivers Dolby Vision or HDR10+ on this set depends on the app and the content, and the set’s HDR brightness has not been measured here.
The 430-nit figure is a typical brightness value, not an HDR peak. It tells you how bright the set is in the manufacturer’s test, not how it will look with a bright HDR scene.
Refresh rate and gaming
The 43C655 is not a native 120 Hz television. This is the single most important point for anyone buying it for gaming.
Rank #2
- Vivid Display: Experience stunning 1080P Full HD resolution with QLED Quantum Dot Technology, delivering rich, vibrant colors and enhanced clarity for movies and TV shows.
- Optimized Backlighting: Direct LED Backlight technology ensures superior brightness uniformity and improved picture performance compared to edge-lit televisions.
- Smart Entertainment: Powered by Google TV, this smart OS offers access to over 700,000 movies and shows, intelligently organized with personalized recommendations.
- Seamless Connectivity: Equipped with two HDMI inputs (one with ARC) for gaming consoles and other devices, plus built-in Chromecast for streaming from thousands of apps.
- Private Listening: Bluetooth Personal Audio allows you to pair your favorite headphones for a private and immersive listening experience.
Native refresh rate: 60 Hz
AVForums’ 2024 range overview states that the 43-inch through 85-inch standard C655 variants have a 60 Hz native refresh rate, and that only the 98-inch model is the 120 Hz option in that range. The article also says the C655 Pro is not identical to the standard C655, with different local-dimming and speaker configurations. Do not carry features from the 98-inch model or from Pro versions over to the 43-inch set.
Game Accelerator is a processing mode
AVForums also describes a 120 Hz Game Accelerator in the standard range’s gaming feature set. Treat this as a processing mode, separate from the panel’s native rate. The source does not show how Game Accelerator behaves with a particular console or PC, and it does not establish its effect on input lag or motion. Test it yourself if motion smoothness matters to you.
Is it good for gaming?
- Console and casual play: A 60 Hz panel with the manufacturer’s stated 9.5 ms gray-to-gray response time can suit relaxed play, particularly if you choose games that run at 60 frames per second or less.
- Fast PC or high-frame-rate play: A native 120 Hz panel is the better fit. The 43C655 cannot show 120 frames per second natively, and input lag has not been measured here.
- Variable refresh rate and auto low-latency mode: The sources reviewed do not confirm VRR or ALLM support on this model. Check your unit’s settings menu and the regional spec sheet before relying on either.
Connectivity
The HDMI count is the same in both sources, and the Australian sheet adds version labels and eARC. Those version labels describe the ports, not the panel. An HDMI 2.1 port does not make the screen run at 120 Hz, which matters because the panel is 60 Hz.
Rank #3
- Free Wall Mount : Enjoy a better view and angle from your living room or bedroom by mounting your TV on the wall, giving it a unique look and saving space with the wall mount.
- 1080P FHD Resolution Experience your favorite movies and TV shows in stunning 1080P high-definition picture quality for enhanced clarity and detail.
- QLED – Quantum Dot Technology Rich, vibrant colors bringing images to life.
- HVA Panel HVA Panel technology leads the industry, using nano-level bionic technology to add polyimide to the liquid crystal molecules to form a butterfly-wing-shaped microstructure, precisely controlling the light passing through the liquid crystal layer and greatly improving the screen contrast.
- Bluetooth Personal Audio Pair your favorite Bluetooth headphones to the TV for a private listening experience. FullView Metal Bezel-Less Design Elegant edge-to-edge glass design, sleek back panel.
The USB count is the discrepancy to check. The Australian sheet lists one USB 3.0 input, while the Dutch summary lists two USB ports. Before you buy, count the ports on the rear and side panels of the unit you are considering, and make sure you have the ports you need for a soundbar, a streaming stick or a storage drive.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The Australian sheet rates the set’s two-channel system at 2 × 15 W, while the Dutch summary gives 20 W total. These figures do not reconcile, and they are not comparable because they describe different markets and different measurement basis. Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X are listed as supported audio formats. Treat these as processing features listed by TCL. Sound quality has not been assessed here, so if audio matters to you, plan on a soundbar or headphones.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Size, stand and wall mounting
The Australian sheet gives the set’s dimensions as 956 × 600 × 185 mm with the stand and 956 × 559 × 69.5 mm without it. Check these figures against the unit you intend to buy before you measure your space. A 43-inch set suits a bedroom or a secondary screen where a larger set would be too big.
The VESA hole pattern is 200 × 100 mm, and the sheet states that the wall bracket is not included. Choose a VESA 200 × 100 mm TV wall mount only after checking its rated load, screw size and clearance for the set’s rear panel.
Is the TCL 43C655 any good?
On its published specifications, the 43C655 is a compact 4K Google TV set with HDR format support and a broad feature list for its size class. It suits a smaller room, a bedroom or a second screen where the main needs are streaming apps and a standard 4K picture.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
It is a poor fit if your priority is high-refresh-rate gaming, since its native panel is 60 Hz. It is also the wrong choice if you need verified brightness, uniformity or sound performance, because none of those have been measured for this model in the sources reviewed here.
Before you buy: a checklist
- Confirm the exact model suffix on the box and the seller’s listing, and match it to the regional spec sheet you are reading.
- Download the user manual and product information sheet from TCL’s regional support page. TCL’s Irish support page for the 43C655 is dated 22 August 2024 and includes both documents, at TCL’s European support page for the 43C655.
- Count the HDMI and USB ports on your unit, and confirm eARC if you plan to use a soundbar.
- Check the refresh rate and any VRR or ALLM options in the settings menu.
- Measure the space, including the stand footprint, and check the wall-mount pattern and bracket requirements.
- Check current price, warranty and stock. AVForums reported a UK launch price of £349 for the 43C655K in 2024; that was a launch figure, and current pricing has not been verified here.
Specifications can change between regional runs and software updates, so treat the figures above as the 2024 published profile rather than a guarantee for the unit you buy.
