Tavern Keeper Major Update 2, titled “Digging Deeper,” launched on October 1, 2026. Its main change is the freedom to dig cellars and build stairs on every level, creating multi-storey taverns; selected scenarios also gain expansion areas. The update adds a new dwarven campaign scenario, Domhain, alongside businesses, staff controls and progression changes.
What changed in “Digging Deeper”?
The update focuses on building, but it is not limited to construction. It introduces a new campaign scenario and adds systems for running businesses, assigning staff work and progressing taverns.

- Multi-level construction: Cellars can be dug and stairs built on every level.
- More land: Expansion areas are available in Riverbottom, Halflington and Domhain.
- New ventures: Players can operate a tavern shop, make goods at a blacksmith and bake cakes and serve desserts.
- Staff and progression: Staff duties let players prioritize or avoid role-specific tasks. Guild Levels let scenario taverns continue advancing toward their highest achieved star rating.
The changelog also lists reworked reputation and patron ratings, three door sizes, new staff traits, settings and interface changes, three music tracks, and 10 new main stories plus 30 new side stories for the Gugamush gazette.

How do cellar and expansion construction work?
Cellars and expansion areas use the Construct Foundation tool in the Build Room menu. Construction requires staff in the Dogsbody role who have the Construction skill, and it can cost a substantial amount of in-game gold. The difficulty setting affects the scale of the challenge.

That makes the extra space a building opportunity to plan for, rather than a free extension: players need the right staff and enough in-game funds to take advantage of it. The developer’s announcement does not give a fixed gold cost.
What is the new Domhain scenario?
Domhain is the fourth campaign scenario and the largest, according to the developer. Set among dwarven clans in the mountains, it challenges players to meet continual patron demand, deal with earthquakes and help unearth an ancient artifact. Its expansion areas and new businesses give the building and management additions a new setting to explore.

Is the update generally available or still experimental?
“Digging Deeper” first appeared on Steam’s Experimental branch on September 3, 2026, for early testing. The developer described that branch as “where we polish new updates before they become generally available.” The full update followed on October 1.

Is “Digging Deeper” a reason to return?
If building space and layout are what you want from Tavern Keeper, the headline additions apply across levels: cellars and stairs are available on every level, while expansion land is specific to Riverbottom, Halflington and Domhain. If you want a fresh campaign, Domhain is the new scenario, with its own dwarven setting, earthquakes and continual patron demand. In either case, construction calls for skilled Dogsbody staff and in-game gold.
The release announcement gives no performance or playtime comparisons, so it does not establish how much faster, longer or smoother a playthrough will be. It does make clear that the update extends more than floor space, adding business options, staff task control and continued Guild Level progression.

What comes next?
The developer says it will focus next on Major Update 3, “Strut Your Staff,” after Update 2 settles. The stated direction is more options for staff, staff management and development, and running a tavern. No release date was announced, so this is a roadmap intention rather than a dated launch commitment.
