Tasker is the Android automation app behind the title: it lets you build routines by combining triggers with actions. Its breadth is the draw, but it is not a one-tap recipe book; learning how to configure and troubleshoot a routine is part of using it.
What is Tasker?
Tasker is an Android app for creating automations. A routine can respond to an event or condition and then perform one or more actions. The official Google Play listing presents it as a configurable tool and currently highlights features including Logcat, Java Code actions, Shizuku support, notification controls, and offline sunrise and sunset information.

Those highlights do not mean every action works on every phone. Android version, manufacturer-specific behavior, permissions, and the particular device can affect what is available or reliable.

What can you automate with Tasker?
Think in terms of a trigger and a response: an event or state starts a profile, which can run an action. Tasker’s change log documents NFC tag events and actions, Quick Setting Tile changes, and support related to 5G state, among other features. It also records version-dependent changes, including photo-picker support and compatibility fixes.

This makes Tasker useful for routines built around the triggers and actions your own phone supports. For example, an NFC tag can be an optional physical trigger: Tasker documents NFC Tag events and actions, but a working setup depends on NFC support and tag compatibility. You do not need to buy tags to use Tasker generally.
Is Tasker difficult to learn?
It can take effort to learn. Tasker’s flexibility comes from configuring triggers and actions rather than choosing only from fixed, ready-made routines. Google Play reviews include users praising its range while also describing a learning curve; those are individual opinions, not controlled assessments.

For a first routine, choose one outcome, identify the trigger and action you need, and add complexity only after the basic automation works. When something fails, check whether the trigger occurred, whether the action is supported on your Android version, and whether Tasker has the permission that action requires.

Some functionality asks for sensitive access. The Google Play listing says System Lock uses device administrator permission and that some features use an accessibility service. A permission request should make sense for the specific automation you are setting up; do not grant access merely because the app offers it.

Android’s own developer documentation describes APIs and behavior that vary by platform release. Tasker’s change log likewise ties some capabilities to Android versions. If an action is missing or behaves differently, verify the phone’s Android version, the required permission, and any device-specific limits before assuming the profile is misconfigured.
Can Tasker use NFC tags?
Yes. Tasker’s change log documents NFC Tag events and actions, so a compatible tag can be used as part of a tag-triggered routine. The documentation cited here does not establish compatibility for every tag model or Android phone. Check that NFC is supported and enabled on your device and confirm tag compatibility before buying tags.

What does “12 years later” tell you?
The title refers to Tasker, but the article matching that headline was not accessible for verification. Its author-specific claim of twelve years of use and the personal examples behind that claim therefore cannot be confirmed here. The independently verifiable point is narrower: Tasker remains listed on Google Play, and its current listing and change log describe an evolving set of automation features.
