What’s Target’s price match policy?
Target may match a qualifying lower price when you buy an item, or adjust the price after purchase if you request it within 14 days. The item must be identical and the lower price must be listed and valid when Target checks it. Target can decline a price it cannot verify. Read the current Target Price Match Guarantee before relying on a specific exception, since policy terms can change.

For an item match, check the brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number. A similar-looking product or a different package size is not necessarily the same item.

How to check whether a lower price qualifies
- Identify the exact item. Compare the product details and model number, not just the product name or photo.
- Check the current price at Target. Look at Target.com or the Target app. In the app, set the store location to the one relevant to your purchase. Prices and availability may vary by location.
- Confirm the lower price is current. Target requires the price to be listed and valid at the time of the match. A past sale price that is no longer available cannot be applied retroactively.
- Check the channel, location, and offer terms. Target.com and app price matches are unavailable in Alaska and Hawaii. In-store prices from another Target store are excluded. Review the exclusions below before asking.
- Make the request through the right channel. For an in-store purchase, ask at checkout or Guest Services. For an online or app order, contact Guest Services by chat or phone with the order number and item details.
What proof does Target accept?
In store, show the current Target.com price or digital ad on your device. Target does not accept screenshots or pictures as proof for an in-store match. For an online or app order, provide Guest Services with the order number and enough item detail to identify the product and price.

For a post-purchase adjustment, retain the receipt or packing slip and request the adjustment within 14 days of purchase. Have the current qualifying lower price ready when you contact Target. Comparison-shopping sites can help you discover a possible deal, but Target warns their prices may be outdated; they are not accepted to validate a match. Confirm the price on Target.com or its digital ad instead.
Does an item have to be in stock to receive a price match?
Target’s policy requires the lower price to be listed and valid when Target checks it, and Target may refuse a price it cannot verify. The policy guidance cited here does not establish a separate, universal in-stock rule for every match situation. Check the live listing and ask Guest Services to confirm the specific offer and item’s availability for your location and purchase channel.

Which items and offers are excluded?
Target lists a range of exclusions. Among them are clearance, closeout, liquidation, damaged, used, open-package, refurbished, and pre-owned items; discounts on a total purchase; minimum-purchase deals; non-branded items; and typographical errors. Other exclusions or special rules apply to gift cards, coupons, financing, services, bundles, rebates, free-item offers, pre-orders, optical, clinic, pharmacy, mobile contracts, and alcohol under state rules.
Target items cannot be matched to Target Plus items. Target Plus partner purchases follow a separate policy tied to the same partner. Because the details and exceptions depend on offer type, consult the live policy before making a request.

How to track a price after buying
- Save the purchase date and receipt, packing slip, or online order information.
- Note the product identifier and the exact variant you purchased.
- Recheck the live Target.com or app price during the 14-day period after purchase, with the app set to the relevant store if applicable.
- If a lower qualifying price appears, verify it is still listed and valid, then contact the appropriate channel with your proof and order details.
Do not treat a price-history site as proof of a current match, and do not assume a promotion that has ended can be applied later.

What does Target’s “Was” price mean?
Target says the online strikethrough “Was” price is calculated from the 90-day median price offered on Target.com and in the Target app. Sales, clearance, and other limited-time promotional offers are excluded from that calculation. It is a pricing reference, not a guarantee of a full price history or the lowest price you can find. Store prices may differ. Target explains this in its pricing details.
