A full-page screenshot captures the document’s scrollable page; it does not necessarily reveal content hidden inside independently scrolling panels. With Playwright, use page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true }) for the document. To capture a nested panel, target that element separately—and if you need its off-screen content too, expose or capture its scroll positions deliberately, then verify the result.
Why a full-page screenshot can miss nested content
A page can have more than one scroll owner. The browser window may scroll the document while a dashboard, chat pane, modal, or other element scrolls internally. A full-page capture concerns the document’s scrollable page; it should not be treated as an instruction to expand every nested scrolling region.

Playwright’s element-screenshot documentation specifically notes that a scrollable target shows only the portion currently scrolled into view. Page capture and panel capture are therefore different tasks: decide whether you need the whole document, the visible portion of one panel, or all content inside that panel.
Capture the document with Playwright
For a repeatable full-page capture, use Playwright’s documented fullPage option:

It does not guarantee that content hidden behind an inner element’s own scrollbar will be included. Playwright documentation defines the full-page scope as the full scrollable page, not every nested region.
Capture a nested scrolling panel
If the desired output is one panel, locate it and take an element screenshot. For example:

If it is scrollable, the documented behavior is to capture the currently visible portion of that element. The element screenshot is not, by itself, a method for unrolling hidden overflow content.
Capture all content inside the panel
When you need the entire nested region as well as the rest of the page, there is no documented universal switch that expands every scroll container in every application. You must account for how that particular page renders and scrolls.

- If the application can render the panel at a larger height or reveal all rows, use that state before capturing.
- If the content only loads as the panel scrolls, deliberately move through its scroll positions so the needed content is loaded or exposed.
- If changing the panel’s dimensions or scroll state would distort the page, capture separate panel positions and assemble them only if the resulting image remains faithful to the original.
- Inspect the output: sticky elements, lazy-loaded images, dynamic content, fixed dimensions, and application virtualization can change what appears in a capture.
These are practical approaches, not guaranteed browser behaviors. Applications that render only a moving window of rows (virtualization) may not have all content in the DOM at once; verify whether each required item is actually present in the output.

- In the Web Console, use

The documentation establishes full-page and node/selector capture, but does not promise that selecting a scrollable node includes content beyond its current scroll position. Check the resulting image rather than assuming hidden overflow is revealed.

Historical Playwright caveat
A GitHub issue opened on March 22, 2022 reported incomplete fullPage: true output when scrolling occurred on a non-body element. The report concerned Playwright 1.20.0; its author said body-scrolling content worked in the reproduction and described reproducing the problem across browsers. This is historical evidence that scroll ownership can matter, not proof of a defect in current Playwright releases. If your output is incomplete, first check which element owns scrolling and whether the missing content is inside a nested panel.

Does Playwright’s full-page option capture every scrollable div?
No. It captures the document’s full scrollable page; a nested scrollable element is a separate capture target, and its hidden content is not guaranteed to be expanded.
Can Firefox capture a selected node?
Yes. Firefox documents “Screenshot Node” in Inspector and the Web Console helper :screenshot --selector. For scrollable nodes, check whether the result includes only the currently visible portion.
