There is no single best carrier for international roaming: the right choice depends on your exact destination, domestic plan, trip length, number of lines, data needs, and whether you will be on a cruise. As of October 7, 2026, T-Mobile lists fixed-duration data passes, while AT&T and Verizon offer day-based passes; Verizon also lists a monthly option. Check your plan and itinerary against the carrier’s current terms before you travel.

International roaming options at a glance

The table compares carrier-listed terms checked on October 7, 2026. Prices and eligibility can change; taxes, destination exclusions, domestic-plan eligibility, and partner-network limits may affect service and cost.

Carrier Option and listed price Data, calls, and charging Coverage and qualifications
T-Mobile International Pass: $10 for 1 day, $50 for 10 days, or $75 for 30 days. Passes list 2GB, 15GB, and 30GB of high-speed data, respectively, plus unlimited voice calls in pass destinations. Eligible plans may also include texts and plan-dependent high-speed roaming data; calls under that included roaming benefit cost $0.50 per minute. T-Mobile describes eligible-plan roaming in 215+ countries and destinations. A qualifying postpaid plan and capable device are required, and extended international use is not allowed. Allowances vary by plan. T-Mobile international plans
AT&T International Day Pass: $12 per day for land use; $6 for each additional line used on the same calendar day. Cruise use: $20 per day. On land, the pass uses the customer’s eligible Unlimited plan, with unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data subject to plan terms. Cruise service includes 500MB per day at the best available speed; on certain ships, speed may be reduced to a maximum of 512Kbps after that. AT&T lists 210+ destinations, 400+ cruise ships, and participating airlines. Coverage and speed vary and may change. AT&T International Day Pass
Verizon TravelPass: $12 per line per day in 210+ countries and destinations; $6 per line per day in Canada and Mexico. Verizon also lists a $100 International Monthly Plan. TravelPass includes unlimited talk, text, and data, with the first 5GB of each session at high speed and unlimited data at 3G speeds afterward. You pay only for days you use the device abroad. Some eligible Verizon plans already include Canada and Mexico benefits. Verizon positions its $100 monthly plan for trips of nine days or longer; check plan and destination eligibility. What changes the cost and experience?

Included roaming may make a pass unnecessary

Start with your existing plan’s benefits. T-Mobile says eligible plans include texts and plan-dependent high-speed data in 215+ countries and destinations; Verizon says some eligible plans include Canada and Mexico roaming. These benefits are not uniform across all plans, so confirm what your specific line includes before adding a pass. T-Mobile international plans Verizon TravelPass

Fixed-duration passes and daily passes bill differently

T-Mobile’s listed passes cover set periods of one, 10, or 30 days. AT&T and Verizon describe day-based charging. AT&T’s additional-line charge applies to each extra line used on the same calendar day; Verizon’s TravelPass charge is per line per day. Compare the billing unit against your itinerary and the lines that will actually roam rather than comparing headline prices alone. “Unlimited” does not always mean unlimited high-speed data

Verizon’s TravelPass has a 5GB high-speed allowance per session, followed by unlimited data at 3G speeds for the remainder of that session. AT&T’s cruise terms are separate from its land offer: the listed allowance is 500MB per day at the best available speed, after which certain ships may reduce speeds to a maximum of 512Kbps. T-Mobile’s passes specify high-speed data allotments rather than an unlimited high-speed allowance. Verizon TravelPass AT&T International Day Pass T-Mobile international plans

Compare cruise roaming separately

Do not use a land-roaming price to estimate shipboard service. AT&T lists cruise use at $20 per day, with its own data allowance and possible speed reduction on certain ships. Its page also lists participating airlines, but coverage, ship or airline participation, and speeds can vary. AT&T International Day Pass

How to choose for your trip

  1. Confirm every destination. Check the exact country or countries with your carrier. Published destination counts—215+ for T-Mobile and 210+ for AT&T and Verizon on the pages checked—do not establish identical partner networks or performance. Carrier coverage and data speeds can vary by destination. T-Mobile international plans AT&T International Day Pass Verizon TravelPass
  2. Check what your domestic plan already includes. Verify the specific line’s roaming allowance, eligible destinations, and any conditions before buying a pass.
  3. Count the days and lines that will roam. Compare T-Mobile’s fixed-duration pass periods with AT&T and Verizon’s day-based charges, including AT&T’s additional-line fee and Verizon’s per-line price.
  4. Estimate high-speed data needs. Consider navigation, video, hotspot use, and other heavy data activity against each option’s stated allowance or speed threshold.
  5. Separate land, cruise, and airline travel. Confirm that the relevant offer and participating network cover each part of the itinerary.
  6. Review current terms before departure. Carrier rates, destination lists, plan eligibility, and network availability can change; verify the exact itinerary with the carrier.

When Verizon’s monthly option is worth checking

Verizon lists a $100 International Monthly Plan and describes it as ideal for trips of nine days or longer. That positioning is not a universal break-even rule: value depends on the destination, plan eligibility, and actual usage days. Compare the monthly terms with TravelPass and with any roaming already included in your plan. Verizon monthly plans Verizon TravelPass

What this comparison cannot establish

Carrier pages provide offer terms, not an independent test of service. The listed country counts do not prove equivalent coverage, roaming partners, or real-world speeds, and no single total trip cost can be determined without a specific plan, itinerary, and usage pattern. Verizon explains that customers are charged only for days they use a device abroad; consult its TravelPass FAQs for charging details, then confirm current terms directly with the carrier.
