If your Switchboard Live stream keeps reconnecting, first find which link is failing: encoder to Switchboard, or Switchboard to YouTube. Check Switchboard’s confidence monitor, then compare its status with the timestamped error in YouTube Live Control Room. Fix the setting or connection identified by that evidence; don’t swap Switchboard’s ingest credentials with YouTube’s stream key.
Find the failing connection before changing settings
A routed stream has two separate connections: your encoder sends video into a Switchboard workflow, and Switchboard forwards that feed to YouTube. The encoder’s reconnect message alone may not identify which connection failed.
- Encoder says it is reconnecting and Switchboard shows “Not receiving video”: investigate the encoder-to-Switchboard leg first.
- Switchboard still receives video, but YouTube shows an error: inspect YouTube Live Control Room and its stream-health messages.
- The encoder reports an error: record the wording and time, and check the encoder’s local preview or logs.
Switchboard’s confidence monitor shows what it receives; it does not by itself prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream. The distinction follows from the separate monitoring points described in Switchboard’s “Not Receiving Video” help page, its workflow guidance, and YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance.
Troubleshoot in order
1. Confirm the encoder is sending to the right Switchboard workflow
- Open the selected workflow in Switchboard and look at its confidence monitor. If it has no incoming video, Switchboard cannot forward video to YouTube.
- Confirm the intended encoder is on and actively sending. Some encoders require you to press their own Go Live control.
- Compare the encoder’s Stream Server or URL and Stream Key with the values shown for that exact Switchboard workflow. Correct a mismatch at the encoder.
- When connected, check the workflow’s displayed stream status, bitrate, and FPS. Note the values and the time if the feed drops again.
For the labels and workflow details, see Switchboard’s workflow instructions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Read YouTube’s error and timestamp
When Switchboard continues receiving video but YouTube reports trouble, open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect the health indicator and the time beside each message. YouTube classifies red errors as critical; they may prevent an event from starting or cause problems for viewers. Yellow errors may degrade quality.
Use the specific message to guide the repair. YouTube’s reported problem categories include stream format or codec, bitrate, audio/video settings, keyframe frequency, resolution, and mismatched primary/backup settings. Change the relevant setting rather than making several unrelated changes at once. See YouTube’s troubleshooting guide for live streams.

3. Check encoder health and source quality
- Update to the latest version of your encoder software.
- Check the stream directly in the encoder and review its logs or error messages.
- Check the computer’s CPU load while encoding.
- If the local preview or source audio/video is already poor, inspect the source or try another encoder as a diagnostic.
- If the local output looks healthy but delivery remains unstable, test outbound internet strength.
YouTube recommends checking encoder software, local stream output, encoder errors, and CPU load. Switchboard also emphasizes that upload speed matters for live streaming. If an outbound connection test indicates a provider-side problem, contact your ISP. The relevant guidance is in YouTube Help and Switchboard’s “Not Receiving Video” page.
4. Test whether the local network is involved
Run an upload or bandwidth test while investigating. Testing over wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi can help isolate wireless instability, but a cable is only a diagnostic option—not a guaranteed fix. If the connection test itself fails or shows a provider issue, contact your ISP.

5. Refresh only the credential named by the failing link
There are two different sets of credentials, for two different connections:
- YouTube stream key: If YouTube’s “error when starting your encoder” guidance applies, go to YouTube Live Control Room → Stream, copy the YouTube stream key, and paste it into the encoder as directed by YouTube Help.
- Switchboard ingest URL and key: If the encoder cannot reach the Switchboard workflow or the workflow’s credentials have changed, use the Stream Server/URL and Stream Key displayed for that workflow, as described in Switchboard’s workflow instructions.
Do not put YouTube’s key into the Switchboard ingest fields or use Switchboard’s ingest key as YouTube’s key. Update the credentials for the connection that the error identifies.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
6. Consider a different ingest protocol only after basic checks
Switchboard describes RTMP as broadly compatible and recommended for most users, RTMPS as encrypted RTMP, and SRT as a low-latency option intended for unstable networks. If both your encoder and workflow support SRT and the network is unpredictable, it may be worth evaluating. A protocol change is not a universal fix for YouTube reconnects; first establish which link is failing and check its settings. See Switchboard’s workflow guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live 24/7 with uploaded video, StreamNeo is a different approach from routing a live encoder through Switchboard: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It does not broadcast from a camera and streams to YouTube only.
