How to Make a YouTube Gaming VOD Rerun Stream Move to the Next Video

To make a YouTube gaming VOD rerun advance automatically, build the sequence in the encoder: in OBS Studio, use a VLC Video source with your VOD files arranged in order. Turn on Loop Playlist only if you want the sequence to start over after the last video. For one VOD repeating, use Media Source and enable Loop.

If you mean that a viewer paused a live broadcast and wants to continue watching, that is different: YouTube DVR resumes that viewer’s playback position. It does not control which VOD your encoder sends next.

Goal What to configure What happens
Advance the broadcast through several prerecorded gaming VODs OBS Studio’s VLC Video source OBS plays the selected files in their listed order. Loop Playlist can repeat the sequence after its last file.
Repeat one prerecorded VOD OBS Studio’s Media Source with Loop enabled The same file starts again when playback ends.
Resume watching after pausing a live stream YouTube DVR playback controls The viewer continues from their paused position; this does not advance the creator’s source.

The encoder determines the outgoing rerun sequence. YouTube’s viewer-side playlist, Autoplay, and DVR controls do not queue your selected local files into the live broadcast.

Set up an ordered multi-VOD rerun in OBS

1. Prepare the files and order

Keep the gaming VOD files available as local media files, then decide the order in which they should play. OBS documents Media Source for local video playback and VLC Video for playlists. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

2. Add a VLC Video source

  1. In OBS, select the scene where the rerun should appear.
  2. In the Sources panel, add a VLC Video source.
  3. Add the VOD files to its playlist and arrange them in the intended order.
  4. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the sequence matters.
  5. Enable Loop Playlist only if the playlist should begin again after the final item. With looping off, it plays through the list once.

The VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. If it is unavailable in OBS, install VLC and reopen OBS.

Repeat a single VOD instead

For one file, add an OBS Media Source, select the local video, and enable its Loop property. This repeats that file; it does not create a multi-video queue. OBS’s source controls are documented in its Media Sources guide.

Connect OBS to a YouTube Live event

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live event in Live Control Room and review its current settings.
  2. Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio.
  3. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect using the stream key or the available account connection flow.
  4. Start streaming from OBS, then confirm the event is receiving the encoder signal in YouTube Studio before relying on the rerun.
  5. Check the source preview, confirm audio is present, and verify that the next VOD appears in the intended order.

YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options are broadcast controls; the OBS source still determines which media is sent. YouTube’s event and encoder setup guidance is in YouTube’s live-stream settings help. Studio labels and controls can change, so use the current event screen as the final reference.

What viewers can resume with YouTube DVR

DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue a live stream from the point at which they paused. It is a playback feature for the viewer, not a setting for the creator’s VOD playlist. YouTube notes that DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours; some devices or configurations can have lower limits. A viewer also cannot seek to a point before the live stream began. See YouTube’s DVR help.

YouTube’s playlist loop control applies when a viewer watches a YouTube playlist, and Autoplay may play a related video after another video ends. Neither feature provides a reliable way to make a live encoder sequence the creator’s chosen local VODs. For the playlist behavior, see YouTube’s playlist help.

Common problems and fixes

  • VLC Video is missing in OBS: install VLC, then restart OBS.
  • The files play in an unexpected order: review the playlist ordering and make sure Shuffle Playlist is off.
  • The list stops after its last VOD: enable Loop Playlist if you want it to start over; otherwise, stopping after one pass is expected.
  • One VOD does not repeat: confirm that you used Media Source and enabled Loop on that source.
  • The source plays in OBS but YouTube is not receiving it: check that OBS is connected to the correct event with its stream URL/key and that the event is receiving the encoder signal.
  • The image appears but there is no sound: check the source’s audio and OBS audio meters before relying on the broadcast.
  • A viewer’s pause does not move the broadcast to the next VOD: DVR only resumes that viewer’s playback position. Configure the OBS playlist to control the broadcast sequence.

Copyright and rerun readiness

Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights needed for the gameplay footage, music, overlays, and any other material in each VOD. A rerun does not change the content’s rights status. YouTube’s live settings and policies can change; review the event configuration and current YouTube guidance before scheduling a long stream.
