Nintendo announced a $499.99 Switch 2 MSRP effective September 1, 2026, while ASUS lists the X20 at $1,299.99; those two figures differ by $800 before tax. Valve’s reviewed Steam Deck OLED page does not state a current US price, so a three-device calculation cannot be verified from these sources.
The better choice depends on which game ecosystem you want, how you value each screen, and whether you prefer a console or a Windows handheld PC. The specifications below are manufacturer disclosures, not results from a controlled comparison.

What the $1,729 figure does—and does not—show
The title’s $1,729 figure has no stated calculation basis in the official sources reviewed here. It does not identify the Steam Deck OLED storage configuration, retailers, bundles, tax treatment or date used to calculate the difference.
For a clear US reference point, Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 notice says the Switch 2 MSRP rises from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1, 2026, with US prices excluding tax. ASUS’s US product listing, accessed October 4, 2026, prices the ROG Xbox Ally X20 at $1,299.99. Subtracting those two listed amounts gives $800 before tax—not $1,729—and is not a three-device price comparison.

How the three handhelds differ
All three have built-in screens and portable play in common, but they are not interchangeable versions of one platform. The relevant official pages describe hardware and product features; they do not establish a complete compatibility list across the three game libraries.
| Device | Platform and game access | Display | Battery disclosure | Storage details in the cited source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Nintendo console platform. The cited Nintendo pages do not provide a complete comparison of game availability against the other devices. | 7.9-inch, 1920×1080 LCD; HDR10 and VRR up to 120 Hz. Nintendo launch specifications, April 2, 2025. | Nintendo estimates 2–6.5 hours. Runtime varies by use; this is not a controlled comparison with the other manufacturers’ estimates. | Not stated in the cited Nintendo sources. |
| Steam Deck OLED | Steam Deck platform. The cited Valve page does not provide a complete comparison of game availability against the other devices. | 1280×800 HDR OLED. Valve product page; publication date not shown in the retrieved content. | Valve estimates 2–8 hours depending on content; its page lists a 40 Wh battery. | Not stated in the cited Valve page. |
| ROG Xbox Ally X20 (2026), RC74XA | Windows 11 Home handheld PC. The cited ASUS specifications do not establish a complete game-compatibility comparison against the other devices. | 7.4-inch, 1920×1080 OLED at 120 Hz. ASUS specification page, accessed October 4, 2026. | ASUS lists an 80 Wh battery but does not provide comparable runtime in the cited source. | 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD and microSD Express reader, per ASUS. |
Game libraries: check the games you actually play
The official sources available for this comparison do not substantiate a title-by-title compatibility matrix or prove that any one device provides the broadest usable library. Before buying, check the specific games you care about in the relevant platform’s current store and support information. For a PC handheld, also verify that the games and storefronts you intend to use work as expected on that Windows device; do not assume that a game available on one platform is available or behaves identically on another.

- 6 nm AMD APU, CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32
This distinction matters more than a broad platform label: a library only helps if it includes the games you want and the device supports the way you expect to play them.

The Switch 2 and X20 are listed at 1920×1080, while the Steam Deck OLED is listed at 1280×800. Nintendo specifies an LCD with HDR10 and variable refresh rate up to 120 Hz; ASUS specifies a 120 Hz OLED; Valve identifies its display as HDR OLED. These figures describe different aspects of the panels, not a measured ranking of brightness, color accuracy, motion clarity or image quality.
In particular, a higher listed resolution does not by itself prove a better-looking image. The cited manufacturer specifications do not provide a controlled, side-by-side display test, so choose based on the combination of panel type, resolution and features that matters to you rather than treating one number as a verdict.
Battery: the estimates are not directly comparable
Nintendo estimates 2–6.5 hours for Switch 2, and Valve estimates 2–8 hours for Steam Deck OLED depending on content. These are each manufacturer’s estimates, not measurements made under the same game, brightness, settings or test procedure. ASUS lists an 80 Wh battery for the X20 but does not provide a runtime estimate in the cited specification page. The available disclosures therefore do not support ranking the three devices by endurance.

Prices and configurations to compare
| Device | US price evidence | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | $499.99 MSRP, effective September 1, 2026 (Nintendo, May 8, 2026). | Nintendo says its listed US prices exclude tax. This is an announced MSRP, not a guarantee that every retailer charges that amount. |
| Steam Deck OLED | Current US price: not stated on the Valve product page reviewed for this comparison. | A three-way price difference cannot be calculated without a current price and the exact storage configuration being compared. |
| ROG Xbox Ally X20 (2026), RC74XA | $1,299.99 (ASUS US listing, accessed October 4, 2026). | ASUS’s listed X20 configuration includes a 1 TB SSD. The cited listing does not establish a matched bundle or tax-inclusive comparison with the other devices. |
To assess any claimed gap, use prices from the same country and date, compare the exact models and storage capacities, and account consistently for tax and bundle contents. With the evidence above, only the $800 pre-tax difference between Nintendo’s announced US MSRP and ASUS’s listed US price can be calculated; the Steam Deck price needed for the three-device claim is missing.
Which one fits your priorities?
- Choose Switch 2 if Nintendo’s console platform is the deciding factor. Its listed panel is the largest of these three, at 7.9 inches, though the cited sources do not provide a controlled image-quality comparison.
- Consider Steam Deck OLED if you want the Steam Deck platform and an OLED display. Check Valve’s current US price and the exact configuration before comparing its cost with the other devices.
- Consider the ROG Xbox Ally X20 if you want a Windows 11 handheld PC with the ASUS-listed 1 TB SSD, 24 GB LPDDR5X memory and 7.4-inch 1080p 120 Hz OLED. Those specifications alone do not establish compatibility with every game or storefront you may want to use.
For any of the three, confirm the specific games and accessories you plan to use. ASUS identifies a microSD Express reader on the X20; Valve describes USB-C peripherals and an official Steam Deck Docking Station. Those descriptions do not establish that a particular card, dock, case or other accessory is compatible across devices, so check the exact model before purchasing.
