Microsoft has officially announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, including a 15-inch mini-LED touchscreen, NVIDIA Blackwell RTX graphics with CUDA support, and up to 128 GB of unified memory. The more detailed 18-core and 20-core configuration split, RAM tiers, prices, and expected preorder and shipping dates came from reporting ahead of Microsoft’s October 7, 2026 event—not the May announcement—so treat those details as unconfirmed unless Microsoft’s current sales information verifies them.
What Microsoft has officially confirmed
Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra on May 31, 2026. Surface corporate vice president Brett Ostrum described it as the company’s first laptop to combine an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU, up to 128 GB of unified memory, and full CUDA support. Microsoft says the memory can be dynamically allocated between the CPU and GPU, and positions the system for AI creation, 3D rendering, and multi-model workflows. These are product and platform claims, not independent performance results. Microsoft’s announcement labels the laptop prerelease and says features may change or vary by region.

Display, ports, and design
The announced display is a 15-inch mini-LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen rated for up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness and 262 pixels per inch. Microsoft also cites high-precision color accuracy, Platinum and Nightfall finishes, and its largest haptic touchpad to date. Listed connections are HDMI, USB-C, USB-A, SD card, and a headphone jack. The May announcement does not provide a final retail configuration table.

Microsoft’s “1 petaflop” AI-compute figure carries a specific qualification: it cites NVIDIA and is based on theoretical FP4 TOPS using the sparsity feature. It should not be read as a measured result for every AI workload. Microsoft’s all-day battery statement is based on internal testing of prerelease units; the company says actual battery life varies significantly with usage, settings, and other factors. No independent benchmark or third-party battery result is established by the cited material.

Reported Surface Laptop Ultra configurations
A Notebookcheck report published October 6, 2026, attributing the details to Windows Central and Roland Quandt, described two expected configurations. Windows Central’s event preview reported the same processor and graphics split. These are pre-event reports, not a final Microsoft-confirmed SKU list.
| Reported option | CPU | GPU | Reported memory tiers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lower configuration | 18 cores | 5,120 cores | 24 GB or 32 GB |
| Higher configuration | 20 cores | 6,144 cores | 32 GB, 48 GB, 64 GB, or 128 GB |
Microsoft separately describes RTX Spark platform maximums of up to 20 Arm-architecture CPU cores, up to 6,144 Blackwell RTX cores, and up to 128 GB unified memory. The reported lower option’s 18-core CPU and 5,120-core GPU figures are below those platform maximums. Microsoft’s Windows Experience Blog also describes Windows scheduling and power and thermal work, a higher system-memory limit accessible to the GPU, and Prism emulation improvements for x86 apps on Windows on Arm. It names Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Cinema 4D, Adobe Photoshop and Premiere, MATLAB, and developer tools in the supported ecosystem; that does not guarantee a particular workflow’s speed or compatibility on the shipping laptop.

Expected price, preorder, and delivery timing
The October 6 Notebookcheck report said Windows Central expected an entry price “well above $2,000.” It also attributed to Roland Quandt a range from under about $3,000 to over about $7,000 for high-end configurations. Windows Central said its sources had not confirmed exact pricing. These are pre-event estimates, not confirmed retail prices.

Those dates were expectations reported before the event, not verified current availability or delivery dates. Microsoft’s May announcement said only that the laptop would be available later in 2026, and noted that sale and delivery depended on regulatory certification and approval. As of the cited reporting, final prices, regional SKU availability, and verified delivery timing were not established. What to verify before choosing a configuration
- Final SKU and memory: Confirm the processor, GPU core count, and memory tier on the product listing; the detailed options above were reported before launch.
- Price and region: Compare the actual local price and availability rather than relying on pre-event estimates.
- Software workflow: Check compatibility and performance for the specific creative, AI, or developer applications you use, especially where Windows on Arm emulation may be involved.
- Performance evidence: Wait for independent tests that identify the workload, power mode, and sustained or plugged-in conditions before comparing performance claims across laptops.
