The sm64coopdx GitHub repository describes the project as an online multiplayer version for the Super Mario 64 PC port and an official continuation of sm64ex-coop. It says the project synchronizes game entities and levels so players can interact in the same world at the same time. In other words, its description is of a shared-world experience, not merely multiple character models appearing on screen.

How many players can join?
The official sm64coopdx website says multiplayer supports up to 16 players. This is the project’s stated maximum, not an independently verified benchmark or a guarantee that every setup or session will work equally well.
Can you play couch co-op or split-screen?
The official materials consulted describe online multiplayer; they do not confirm same-device couch co-op or split-screen. A Reddit discussion asks, “Is this viable with couch coop?” but a question in a user-generated thread is not evidence that the feature exists. If you specifically want to play beside another person on one computer, do not assume sm64coopdx supports that mode based on the shared-world description alone.

What should you expect from a co-op clip?
The official project description supports the idea of multiple players interacting in one synchronized world online. It does not, by itself, establish details such as how a particular session is hosted, which current-release settings are needed, or whether a clip was recorded with a launcher. One Reddit post author says they used Super Mario 64 [Co-op DX] through the Quiver Launcher; that is one user’s account, not an official compatibility recommendation.
