Super Cruise has the larger published compatible-road network: General Motors reports more than 600,000 miles in the U.S. and Canada, compared with Ford’s more than 130,000 miles of North American Blue Zones. But those totals use different geographic descriptions and do not show whether your own routes are covered. Both systems are hands-free, eyes-on driver assistance—not self-driving—and the available evidence does not establish an overall experience winner. Check the current maps and the exact vehicle before deciding.
What Super Cruise and BlueCruise do
Both systems provide hands-free driving assistance on roads they support, while requiring the driver to watch the road and be ready to take control. Neither makes the vehicle autonomous.

Super Cruise
GM describes Super Cruise as a hardware-and-software system that uses vehicle sensors and computers to identify the road and assess conditions. On compatible roads, it can manage steering, acceleration, and braking. Some equipped vehicles can change lanes automatically. GM says the mapped network now includes certain secondary roads with clearly visible lane markings, as well as highways. Equipped trucks can support hands-free towing, but turn-signal-activated and automatic lane changes are unavailable while trailering. GM’s Super Cruise overview and 2026 explainer describe the system and its limits.
BlueCruise
Ford describes BlueCruise as hands-free highway driving that works with Adaptive Cruise Control and lane centering on designated Blue Zones. Depending on vehicle and version, features can include Lane Change Assist, Automatic Lane Change, and In-Lane Repositioning. Ford says Automatic Lane Change is available with BlueCruise 1.5 or later and identifies selected 2025 and 2026 Mustang Mach-E models and 2026 Explorer vehicles for that feature. Availability depends on the specific vehicle and software; check the vehicle’s equipment and version rather than assuming every BlueCruise-equipped model has every feature. Ford’s BlueCruise page lists current feature information.

How much larger is Super Cruise’s network?
| System | Published coverage | What the figure describes |
|---|---|---|
| Super Cruise | More than 600,000 miles | Compatible roads in the U.S. and Canada, reported by GM Engineering in August 2026. GM’s 2026 engineering article. |
| BlueCruise | More than 130,000 miles | North American roads in designated Blue Zones, described by Ford as prequalified sections of divided highways. Ford’s current page does not state a publication date. Ford’s BlueCruise page. |
On the manufacturers’ published totals, Super Cruise’s mapped network is substantially larger. The figures are not a direct apples-to-apples measurement, however: GM describes compatible road miles in two countries, while Ford describes Blue Zones across North America, and the systems’ road eligibility differs. Neither total tells you how much of your commute or regular travel is usable. Compare your actual routes on the GM coverage information and Ford BlueCruise page before treating the headline mileage as a personal advantage.
Usage figures are not experience scores
GM reported more than one billion cumulative Super Cruise hands-free miles in 2026 and nearly 750,000 equipped vehicles across more than 20 models. Ford reported that F-150 customers logged 118 million BlueCruise miles and 1.6 million hours in 2025; Ford says that anonymized usage data comes from customers who opted in to share it. The Ford figure is specific to F-150 customers in that year, while GM’s is cumulative across its system. Neither statistic measures safety, reliability, comfort, or the quality of a typical trip. GM’s mileage report and Ford’s 2025 usage report provide the manufacturers’ figures.

Does the larger network mean a better driving experience?
Not by itself. The available manufacturer material describes coverage, features, vehicles, and usage, but does not establish that one system is smoother, more reliable, more comfortable, or less likely to intervene. Those outcomes require a fair comparison using equivalent vehicles, routes, software, and conditions. Network mileage and customer-use totals cannot substitute for that kind of test.
Either system may be unavailable or disengage when lane markings, visibility, weather, sensors, or other conditions are unsuitable. GM says road and weather conditions can affect Super Cruise performance; Ford warns that heavy rain, snow, fog, or blocked sensors can affect BlueCruise. Both require the driver’s attention and readiness to resume control. Do not use a handheld device with Super Cruise, and keep your eyes on the road with BlueCruise. See GM’s system information and Ford’s BlueCruise details.

Which vehicles and features should you compare?
Availability is tied to the exact model year, configuration, installed hardware, and software. GM lists Super Cruise across Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac, with cited availability reaching back to the 2018 Cadillac CT6 and including 2026 vehicles. Ford lists BlueCruise on Mustang Mach-E, F-150, F-150 Lightning, Expedition, and Explorer, with availability varying by model year and configuration. Confirm the feature on the specific vehicle and verify its VIN before purchase. See GM’s vehicle availability list and Ford’s BlueCruise information.
- Automatic or assisted lane changes: Check the model and software version. Ford specifies BlueCruise 1.5 or later for Automatic Lane Change and limits availability to selected vehicles; GM says automatic lane changes are available on some equipped vehicles.
- In-lane positioning: Ford lists In-Lane Repositioning among features that depend on model and version. Confirm availability for the vehicle you are considering.
- Secondary roads: GM says Super Cruise coverage has expanded to mapped secondary roads where lane markings are clearly visible. Ford describes Blue Zones as prequalified sections of divided highways.
- Towing: GM offers hands-free towing on equipped trucks, with lane-change limitations while trailering. Do not assume an ordinary hands-free feature list applies unchanged when towing.
What do the plans cost?
The published offers differ, but they are not a complete lifecycle cost comparison: included trials, eligible vehicles, plan terms, and availability vary.

How to choose between them
- Map your real driving. Check the current coverage maps for your commute, frequent trips, and likely road trips. A smaller network that covers the roads you use may be more useful than a larger network that does not.
- Verify the vehicle. Confirm model year, trim, installed equipment, VIN eligibility, and software version. Do not rely on a model name alone.
- Match features to your use. If lane changes, secondary roads, or towing matter, verify which specific vehicle supports the feature and any restrictions that apply.
- Compare the actual plan terms. Include the trial or included period, renewal price, and available purchase options rather than comparing only one monthly figure.
- Keep the evidence in perspective. Manufacturer mileage totals and feature descriptions do not establish which system feels better in a controlled, like-for-like drive.
