CHOICE’s published summary gives the Suparest Affinity a 66% Expert Rating and flags weak initial support, pronounced bounce and fluid absorption. That makes the scorecard worth weighing against the retailer’s “firm” description and the exact size and version on sale: CHOICE reviewed a double, and its specifications do not fully match Harvey Norman’s current listing.
What is the Suparest Affinity?
The Suparest Affinity is an Australian-made innerspring mattress sold exclusively through Harvey Norman stores, according to the retailer. Harvey Norman describes the range as firm and lists a Contour Coil 3 Zone Support system, comfort foam and Fibre Guard comfort layers, and a stretch-knit cover. Those are retailer-provided product details, not independent findings about comfort or performance. The listing includes single, long single, king single, double, queen and king sizes, along with a 60-month manufacturer express warranty. Harvey Norman’s product listing

Check the exact double before comparing specifications
CHOICE’s public product page identifies its reviewed item as a double spring mattress with a claimed firm feel, Bonnell spring core, 125 springs per square metre, 10 layers, a weight of 22 kg, and dimensions of 188 × 137 × 22.5 cm. Harvey Norman’s current double listing instead gives 24 kg and 22 cm, and describes a Contour Coil 3 Zone Support system. The available information does not establish whether this difference reflects a product revision, a distinct variant or a listing discrepancy. Check the product code and measurements for the specific mattress you are considering rather than assuming the figures describe the same version. CHOICE’s product summary
What did CHOICE find?
CHOICE’s article “Mattresses to avoid buying,” last updated 11 September 2026, lists the Affinity with a 66% Expert Rating. Its public summary reports 53% support when new and 88% support after eight years. CHOICE also describes the mattress as uncomfortable and very bouncy, says it absorbed sweat or fluid, and reports that—apart from another model named in its article—it had the lowest stability score among the mattresses tested. CHOICE notes the 22 kg review-model weight as an advantage for portability. These are CHOICE’s findings, not firsthand testing by this publication. CHOICE’s Affinity summary

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Read the support scores as separate measures
The 53% and 88% figures refer to different stages of CHOICE’s assessment: support when new and support after simulated use. The higher later figure does not erase the low initial-support result, nor does it mean the mattress gained support in ordinary household use. CHOICE says its comparison uses 30,000 rolling cycles to simulate approximately eight years; the public information does not provide the complete Affinity scorecard or its full model-specific protocol. Why stability and moisture matter
CHOICE’s general mattress assessment covers comfort and support for back and side sleeping, retained comfort after simulated use, stabilisation, sagging, sweat repellence, and usage wear or damage. Its summary’s bounce and stability findings are particularly relevant if you share a bed and are sensitive to a partner’s movements. The fluid-absorption finding is a separate concern from support: it speaks to moisture handling, not whether a particular sleeper will find the surface comfortable. The public summary does not give the Affinity’s full sub-scores, so avoid treating these selected findings as a complete account of every test dimension. CHOICE’s testing overview

Is the Affinity a good fit for you?
“Firm” is Harvey Norman’s description, while CHOICE’s published assessment raises concerns about comfort and initial support. Neither label alone predicts how the mattress will feel to an individual. CHOICE’s methodology considers back and side sleeping, but its public summary does not establish fit for every sleeping position, body type or preference. If possible, compare the feel in person and review the retailer’s terms before buying.
- Consider movement sensitivity: CHOICE’s report of pronounced bounce and weak stability may matter if one person’s movements disturb the other.
- Look beyond the firm label: match the feel you prefer to your usual sleep position and personal comfort, rather than assuming a firmness description guarantees support.
- Weigh the practical handling note: CHOICE identifies the reviewed double’s 22 kg weight as a portability advantage; the retailer lists 24 kg for its current double.
What should you verify before buying?
Harvey Norman’s broad page displayed prices from A$449 across size selections when accessed in 2026; the double listing showed A$599. These are page snapshots, not guaranteed prices, and stock, delivery and cost can vary by size and location. CHOICE’s product page lists A$599 and a price paid after sale or bargaining of A$549 for its reviewed double. The different figures reflect separate page information and should not be treated as a current offer or a like-for-like price comparison. Harvey Norman’s product listing CHOICE’s product summary
